The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce invites everyone to attend the public forum on Biomass in Salem. The forum will be held in the Salem City Hall Auditorium tonight starting at 6:30 pm. according to George Lajoie, Chamber President. The forum will be open for questions from those in attendance. Mayor Gary Brown and City of Salem Alderman feel it is important that they hear the questions and answers from the public that are discussed. In addition to representatives from ProEnergy and city officials, the chamber has invited several resource people to participate. These include individuals from the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, the US National Forest Service, University of Missouri, Royal Oak Charcoal, and the Missouri Department of Agriculture. There has been a great deal of discussion on this topic and if it is the right fit for our area.  It would affect the entire community whether you live in the city of Salem or surrounding area. The Salem Police Department released their reports involving theft, and trespassing. On Tuesday, November 23rd at 8:17 p.m. an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a residence in the 800 block of East Hawkins and took a Fugi camera valued at $250. On Thanksgiving evening at 10:30, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation of the report revealed that a person or persons unknown entered a residence in the 300 block of South Macarthur and took a Mac Book laptop computer valued $2,200. On Friday, November 26th at 12:38 in the morning, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to trespassing. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 20-year old Salem male for trespassing on Wal-Mart properties. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information regarding the theft reports, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

Salem High School is hosting a College Planning Night tomorrow night. Topics presented will include: The A+ Program and transferring from a community college to a four-year college; financial aid; basic college planning; and a session devoted to the misconceptions, pros, and cons of private and public four-year and two-year colleges. The evening will begin at 6:00. A chili supper will be available from 5:30 to 6:30 in the library. Parents and students from all grades are encouraged to attend.

An accident occurred at 6:50 Thursday evening in Phelps County on Highway 8 about four miles east of St. James. According to the highway patrol report, a 1989 Ford F-150 driven by 19-year old Brandon White of Steelville ran off the left side of the road and struck a tree. White suffered minor injuries and was transported to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by St. James EMS. An occupant in the truck, 18-year old Olivia Oshaughnessy of St. James, suffered moderate injuries and was also transported to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center by St. James EMS. No one was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford F-150 was totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by Spurgeon’s Towing.

An accident happened Wednesday at 2:16 in the afternoon on Highway 32 about a half mile east of Boss. According to the highway patrol report, a 2002 Chevrolet driven westbound by 50-year old Diane Dunlap of Davisville, ran off the left side of the roadway and overturned. Dunlap suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. The Chevy sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Abney’s Towing.

The Dent County Fire Protection District is again hosting their annual toy drive. The toy drive is for children birth thru age 12. Registration will be Tuesday, November 30^th and Thursday, December 2^nd from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at the Dent County Fire Protection District Station. Parents or guardians need to bring verification of the child’s age, that the child lives with them, and proof that the child is a Dent County resident (such as utility bill). Only registered children are allowed to participate in the toy drive. The toy pick-up date will be December 21^st. For more information please contact Brad Nash at 729-3250. The Salvation Army Service Unit of Dent County would like to announce that this year’s Christmas kettle campaign is going on now through Friday, December 24^th. The kettles will be located at Wal-Mart, Country Mart, and Dollar General. Counter Kettles will be placed at various locations around Dent County. This year’s goal is $21,000 and with the continuation of a local mail appeal and the hundreds of volunteer hours donated by individuals, businesses, and clubs to ring the bell at the Christmas kettle, the Salvation Army is hopeful that local citizens will support this campaign generously as they have in the past. This year, David Dittman, a Vice-President at the Bank of Salem, will serve as the Honorary Christmas Campaign Chairman and he thanks everyone for their donation on money, time or both during this Christmas season to make it a brighter 2011 for hose less fortunate. The funds raised during this campaign will be used to assist the citizens of Dent County with utility assistance, and prescriptions. The Salvation Army also supplies local school children with backpacks, and provides assistance to families who have lost everything due to a fire. The generosity of the citizens of Dent County will enable the local Salvation Army to continue to meet the needs of those who need assistance in 2011. The Salem Boys Basketball season began Saturday against Northwest High School and the Tigers came out on the short end of a 73-64 score. The Tigers will be right back at it tonight as they will be in West Plains. The 9^th grade team will start things out at 5:00 followed by the JV game at 6:00 and the varsity game at about 7:30. De'Vion Moore carried 10 times for 38 yards and two touchdowns and Kendial Lawrence ran for 75 yards and a score on 10 totes, as 15th-ranked Missouri knocked off Kansas, 35-7, in the Border Showdown at Arrowhead Stadium. Blaine Gabbert completed 16-of-26 passes for 179 yards, but was intercepted twice for the Tigers (10-2, 6-2 Big 12). T.J. Moe made five catches for 83 yards and ran for a touchdown for Missouri, who will now wait to find out what bowl game they will play in.

Loui Eriksson scored the go-ahead goal on a power play early in the third period, and the Dallas Stars held on for a 2-1 win to sweep a home-and-home series with the St. Louis Blues. B.J. Crombeen tallied the only St. Louis goal late in the second period and the Blues lost for the seventh time in 10 games. Jaroslav Halak allowed two goals on 23 shots in the loss. The Stars won the opener of the home-and-home series, 3-2, in Dallas on Friday. The Blues play the Chicago Blackhawks tomorrow night starting at 7:00.

Kim English and Laurence Bowers each scored 18 points, as 11th-ranked Missouri routed Arkansas-Pine Bluff, 91-63, at Mizzou Arena. Marcus Denmon netted 12 points and Michael Dixon ended with 11 for Missouri (5-0), which earned an 83-71 triumph over La Salle on Wednesday. Ricardo Ratliffe added a double-double with 10 points and as many rebounds in the win. Missouri will face Georgetown tomorrow night in Kansas City at 7:30.

Sam Bradford threw for a career-high 308 yards and three scores on 22-of-37 passing as St. Louis nearly wasted a 20-point lead but hung on to beat Denver, 36-33, at Invesco Field.

Dwayne Bowe had a career day, catching 13 passes for 170 yards and three touchdowns, as the AFC West-leading Kansas City Chiefs took down the Seattle Seahawks, 42-24. Matt Cassel completed 22-of-32 passes for 233 yards and four touchdowns for the Chiefs (7-4), who snapped a four-game road skid. Jamaal Charles carried the ball 22 times for 173 yards and a score for Kansas City, which has won two in a row since a two-game losing streak.
