The Dent County Sheriff’s Department reports that on Monday, November 26th at 3:32 in the afternoon, the department received a report of a burglary which was reported to have occurred between November 4th and the 26th, at a residence located off of Highway 68. Reported taken were five $100 bills, a Powerforce Bissell vacuum cleaner and a prescription bottle of oxycodone or oxycontin. Anyone with any information regarding this incident, which is still under investigation, is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

The City of Salem is requesting sealed bids for the purchase of five Police Cars. Bids are to be by vehicle not as a group. Send all sealed bids to the City of Salem at 400 North Iron Street, Salem, MO., 65560. Please write “Police Car Bids” on the envelope. Bids are due by 3:00 pm on Thursday, November 29th. An accident occurred at 11:15 Wednesday morning, November 21st on Highway 72. According to the Salem Police report, a silver 2002 Buick Regal driven by Elizabeth McConnell of Salem was southbound on Highway 72 about a tenth of a mile south of Route J in the southbound lane. At that time, a red 2000 Pontiac Sunfire driven by Levita Haws of Salem was traveling southbound on Highway 72 about a tenth of mile from Route J in the northbound lane. An approaching northbound vehicle met the Pontiac at which time the Pontiac cut across the center turn lane and into the southbound lane striking the Buick in the driver’s side door. No injuries were reported. The Buick sustained moderate damage. The Pontiac sustained moderate damage and was towed from the scene.

The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of October. During the month, they wrote 13 traffic tickets, 32 warning tickets and three equipment repair orders. They served 37 summons to appear in court and four fugitive warrants. The Salem Police Department investigated 11 accidents, four assaults, two domestic assaults, and two reports of driving while intoxicated. The Police Department also investigated ten reports of stealing, six reports of property damage, one report of tampering, one report of trespassing, two reports of counterfeiting, one report of a forgery, one report of a missing or runaway juvenile, one report of a minor in possession of intoxicants, two burglaries, one report of a lost or stolen plate, one report of a refusal to obey lawful order, one report of endangering the welfare of a child, one report of an exparte violation, and two reports of disorderly conduct. They also investigated five reports of possession of marijuana and one report of possession of drug hallucinogens.  The police received 1,937 calls for service during the month and handled 130 walk-ins to the station. The Salem Police Department redirected 73 calls to the animal control officer. They also spent 35 hours in court testifying, six hours as court bailiff and spent 20 hours teaching D.A.R.E. The calls in October included 41 calls for escorts, 12 9-1-1 calls, five intoxicated driver investigation calls, four calls for a suspicious person or vehicle, four calls for peace disturbances, 19 ambulance assist calls, three calls for alarms sounding, seven calls for fights in progress, three domestic dispute calls, five calls for an intoxicated pedestrian, four fire calls and two wreckers were needed. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 10,034 miles during the month of October. The Salem Police Department arrested 28 males and 14 females for a total of 42 arrests during the month of October.

The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers upset 2nd seeded Doniphan Monday night at the Farmington Tournament by the score of 56 to 48. Taylor Sirois led all scorers with 18 points and 17 rebounds followed by C.J. Smith with 17 points. Salem is 2-0 on the year and they will face Farmington tonight at 7:30. KSMO will NOT air the game from Farmington tonight.

The St. Louis Blues, winners of five of the last six games, will be at Buffalo who has won five straight games. You can hear the first and second periods tonight on KSMO starting at 6:00.

The Missouri Tigers will travel to Arkansas to face the Razorbacks tonight starting about 7:30 right after Blues hockey. Missouri is 5-1 on the year.

Chase Daniel is the first Missouri player to be named the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year. Other Tigers being recognized were senior Adam Spieker from Webb City as the Offensive Lineman of the Year, and freshman Jeremy Maclin from Krkwood as the co-Offensive Freshman of the Year.

Funeral services for William ‘Bud” Shaw of Salem, age 63, will be Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Edgar Cemetery in Anutt with Full Military Honors.

Funeral services for Mary Elizabeth McDonough of Salem, age 67, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at Wilson Mortuary. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the New Harmony Church.

Funeral services for Rosella Munzer of Anutt, age 95, will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Anutt United Methodist Church in Anutt. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00 at the James & Gahr Chapel. Interment will be in the Victor Cemetery in Anutt. Memorials are suggested to the Anutt United Methodist Church.

Visitation for William Kenneth (Bill) Haase of Salem, age 74, will be Thursday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. 

Funeral services for Mary Birdsong, of Salem, age 70, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 11:00 until time of service. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery.

Funeral services for Elmer Bryant of Salem, age 90, will be held Saturday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Visitation will be Friday from 6:00 to 8:00. Memorials may be made to the Seville Care Center Resident Fund.

Funeral services for Helen M. Wienert of Pittsburg, MO, formerly of Rolla, age 75, will be held on Monday, December 3rd at 10:00 at the James & Gahr Morturay in Rolla. Visitation will be Sunday, December 2nd from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Funeral services Evelyn Hilgedick of Marshfield, formerly of Salem, age 88, will be Tuesday, December 4th at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Monday, December 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Animal Shelter.
