The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson was not in attendance, as he was in Centerville attending a Community Block Grant Meeting for the Bunker Firehouse and Community Center. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Road 428 and on various white rock roads in the Round Pond area. The rest of the District 2 crew would be checking snow equipment and catching up on routine maintenance. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he would be attending a Solid Waste Management Meeting and Awards Banquet tonight in St. James starting at 6:30.  Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that starting in 2008, all candidates filing for a county office must fill out a Candidate Affidavit of Tax Payment and submit it to the Department of Revenue. This will prove that the candidate is not delinquent on state income, personal or real estate taxes and this must be filled out and notarized before filing for a position.  A form can be picked up in the county clerks office or pulled off the Department of Revenue’s website.  Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock stopped by the meeting to remind everyone that the collector’s office will be open this Saturday from 9 am to 12 pm for tax payment. Faye McWhorter came by the meeting to ask about getting Dent County Road 324 chip and sealed and about posting new speed limit signs. Commissioner Tune said he would have a traffic counter placed in the road for one month before making a decision about chip and seal and new signs would be going up very soon. James Harland from the Missouri Department of Conservation also came by the meeting to discuss the possibility of the county using their water truck to help the department spread dust control on a road in Indian Trail Park that leads to a shooting range. Commissioner Tune said that would not be a problem, but also said chip and seal would be more beneficial in the long run and the cost would only be around $5000 since it’s only one quarter of a mile.  Harland said he would discuss the chip and seal idea with the department and let the Commission know before January.  The next meeting of the Commission will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
