An accident happened at 8:30 Saturday night in Phelps County on Route B about four miles north of St. James that took the life of a St. James man. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by 54-year old David Chambers of St. James traveled off the right side of the road, came back onto the roadway, then ran off the left side of the road, where he struck a ditch, became airborne, then struck a tree and ejected Chambers. David Chambers was pronounced dead at the scene and his body was taken to the Jones Funeral Home in St. James. The 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe was totaled and removed from the scene by Spurgeons Towing of St. James.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released a report of an assault on November 11th. The assault was reported to have occurred on a farm located off of Dent County Road 315. The incident involved three males age 28, 34 and 36 years old. A verbal dispute among family members led to a physical altercation and in the process it was reported the 36-year old male fired several shots from a handgun. It was also reported that the 36-year old male was leaving the area. He had gotten into a jeep, backed up, and went forward ramming another vehicle parked in the area. All involved parties had left the location when it was reported. They were all located and interviewed with related charges pending at this time.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released reports involving DWI and a burglary. On November 16th at 11:38 in the evening, while on routine patrol a deputy observed a vehicle traveling 79 miles per hour in a 60 mile per hour zone on Highway 72. The vehicle also swerved into the left lane and then back into the right lane. The vehicle turned on Dent County Road 321 and the deputy activated his emergency light to stop the vehicle. The vehicle continued on Dent County Road 321 and eventually yielded to the emergency lights. Investigation led to a 26-year old male being issued numerous traffic citations and a citation for operating a motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition. On November 20th at 8:38 in the morning, the department received a report of a burglary, which was reported to have occurred in the last month at a residence located off of Highway 19 South. Reported taken were $60 in cash, gasoline, a key ring and a credit card. The University of Missouri Dent County Extension Council will hold their next meeting today at the Extension Office conference room beginning at 5:30 pm. The council will hear various reports from the staff. Old business will include a review of the Extension Council Policy manual and healthy lifestyle initiatives. New business to be addressed is the Extension Council election, budget planning, personnel evaluations and to set a date and plan for the Extension Council annual meeting. The council will then address any other business to come before them before adjourning the meeting. For more information, call 729-3196.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released reports involving stealing. On November 14th at 6:59 in the morning, the department received a report of a theft from property located off of Dent County Road 214. The theft occurred between November 12th and 14th. Reported taken were three ladder extensions for a deer stand and a Moultree game camera. On November 15th at 9:30 in the morning, the department received a report of a stolen cell phone. The theft was reported to have occurred at the Salem Faith Mission located off of Highway JJ and Highway 72. The victim traced the usage of the phone. Investigation revealed the phone had been destroyed and the victim had incurred a loss of $200. As a result a 21-year old female and an 18-year old male were issued a citation for stealing less than $500. The Salem Basketball Tigers are seeded 6th in the Farmington Tournament that starts tonight against #2 seeded Doniphan. Game time is set for 8:00 and the game will NOT be on KSMO.

Missouri jumped to #1 in the nation for the first time in 47 years as Chase Daniel completed an incredible 40 of 49 passes for 361 yards for three touchdowns, as third-ranked Missouri held on for a 36-28 win over previously unbeaten and No. 2 Kansas, securing a spot in the Big 12 championship game. Danario Alexander had eight receptions for 117 yards and a touchdown for Missouri, which captured the conference's North Division and will take on Oklahoma next Saturday night in the Big 12 title game in San Antonio. The only loss for the Tigers this season was at Oklahoma, on October 13. A victory over the Sooners should put the Tigers into the BCS title game on January 7.

Gus Frerotte fumbled the ball at the one-yard line with under 30 seconds left in the fourth quarter and Seattle held on for the 24-19 triumph over the St. Louis Rams at the Edward Jones Dome. Frerotte, who replaced Marc Bulger in the first quarter, threw for 161 yards on 20-of-32 passing with one touchdown and one pick for the Rams (2-9), who had their two-game winning streak broken. Jackson rushed for 90 yards on 23 carries with one touchdown, and Bruce caught six passes for 63 yards and one score.

Justin Fargas ran for 139 yards and a touchdown as the Oakland Raiders edged the Kansas City Chiefs, 20-17, at Arrowhead Stadium. Kolby Smith, who was making his first NFL start, had 150 yards rushing on 31 carries with two touchdowns, for the Chiefs (4-7) who have lost four in a row. Brodie Croyle struggled, completing only 12-of-23 passes for 145 yards with an interception.

Manny Legace stopped all 24 shots fired his way for his 19th career shutout, as St. Louis blanked Calgary, 3-0, at Scottrade Center. Jamal Mayers scored two goals for the Blues, who have won two straight and six of their last seven overall. Brad Boyes had the other goal for St. Louis. The Blues will play next on Wednesday at Buffalo.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers romped over Western Illinois, 91-52, as Stefhon Hannah had 21 points and Demarre Carroll added 20 with 12 rebounds. Missouri is 5-1 on the year.

Ascend-abration services for Christel Doven of Rolla, age 67, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:15 at the James and Gahr Mortuary of Rolla. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:15 Tuesday morning. A private interment will follow. Memorials may be made to “The Christel Fund” for the Phelps County regional Medical Center’s Hospice Center.

Funeral services for Joseph “Clive” Troutt of Steelville, age 86, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the First Assembly Of God Church in Steelville. Visitation will be Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Cross Roads Cemetery in Leasburg. Memorials may be given to the Steelville Food Pantry.

Funeral services for James Jackson (Jackie) Asbridge of Belleville, Illinois, age 77, will be held Wednesday at 1:30 at Wilson Mortuary. Visitation will be from 10:30 until noon. Interment will be in the Green Forest Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association.

Funeral services for William ‘Bud” Shaw of Salem, age 63, will be Thursday morning at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Edgar Cemetery in Anutt with Full Military Honors.     

Funeral services for Evelyn Hilgedick, of Marshfield, formerly of Salem, age 88, will be held Tuesday, December 4th at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Monday, December 3rd from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Dent County Animal Shelter.
