Henry Josey ran for 95 yards and two touchdowns to help 8th ranked Missouri move one win away from an SEC East title with a 24-10 decision over 24th-ranked Ole Miss on Saturday. James Franklin threw for 142 yards with an interception on a 12-of-19 completion rate, but the Tigers' ground game and defense played the biggest roles in Missouri's third triumph over a ranked conference opponent this season. The Tigers clinch a spot in the SEC Championship Game if they defeat Texas A&M on Saturday.
The Missouri Tigers used an impressive second half shooting effort to pull away late, as they toppled the visiting Gardner-Webb Runnin' Bulldogs 72-63 Saturday afternoon at Mizzou Arena. Earnest Ross led the way for the tigers with 17 points while Jordan Clarkson added 14. Missouri will host the IUPUI Jaguars tonight and you can hear it on KSMO starting at 6:30.
Brian Elliott stopped 34 shots and six different players hit the back of the net, as St. Louis eased past Dallas, 6-1, at Scottrade Center Saturday night. The win was No. 621 for head coach Ken Hitchcock, who moved past Bryan Murray into eighth on the all-time list. The Blues will host Minnesota tonight at 7:00 and KSMO will join the game in progress following the Missouri game.
Benny Cunningham, Zac Stacy, and Tavon Austin each tallied a rushing touchdown and the St. Louis Rams accounted for 258 yards on the ground in their 42-21 victory over the Chicago Bears. Cunningham carried the ball 13 times for 109 yards, while Stacy added 87 yards on 12 totes for the Rams (5-6), who will play the San Francisco 49ers this Sunday at 3:05.
Seyi Ajirotutu's 26-yard touchdown catch with 24 seconds left gave the San Diego Chargers a 41-38 win over the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. Alex Smith passed for 294 yards and three touchdowns for the Chiefs (9-2), who have lost two in a row after going 9-0 to start the season. The Chiefs will host the Denver Broncos this Sunday at 3:25.
The St. Louis Cardinals have traded third baseman David Freese and relief pitcher Fernando Salas to the Los Angeles Angels in exchange for outfielders Peter Bourjos and Randal Grichuk. Bourjos is a career .251 batter with 24 home runs, 18 triples and 89 RBI in 354 games. He has stolen 41 bases in 54 attempts, including a career- high 22 in 2011. The right-handed hitting Bourjos is considered to be a Gold Glove caliber defender, having made just seven errors in over 2,500 innings played.
The Cardinals have also signed free agent shortstop Jhonny Peralta to a four-year deal. Peralta, 31, batted .303 with 11 homers, 30 doubles and 55 RBI for the Detroit Tigers in 2013. He also served a 50-game suspension for his involvement in the Biogenesis scandal. Peralta is a career .268 hitter with 156 homers, 295 doubles and 698 RBI in 1,383 games with Cleveland and Detroit.
The Kansas City Royals signed free-agent pitcher Jason Vargas to a four-year contract on Thursday. Vargas went 9-8 with a 4.02 earned run average in 24 starts for the Angels last season. He missed almost two months in his lone campaign with Los Angeles after having surgery to remove a blood clot in his left armpit.
