The Missouri State Highway Patrol reminds motorists that wearing a seat belt can save your life. Many Missourians will travel over the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend to enjoy time with friends and family. If you will be traveling this holiday, please make sure your car is in good condition before beginning your trip. It is also important that you are well rested before you start driving. The Patrol will participate in Operation C.A.R.E (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) during this period. As part of this operation, all available officers will be assigned to Missouri’s roadways to enforce traffic laws, especially those related to drunk driving, speeding, and seat belt use. Troopers will also be assisting motorists as needed. The counting period for the 2009 Thanksgiving holiday weekend starts at 6 p.m. tonight and will last until 11:59 p.m. Sunday. During the 2008 Thanksgiving holiday weekend, 14 persons were killed and another 634 were injured in 1,736 traffic crashes. Motorists are reminded of the Highway Patrol’s Emergency Assistance number 1-800-525-5555 (or *55 on a cellular phone). The emergency number should be used to report traffic crashes, crimes being committed, or other emergencies on Missouri’s highways. When you dial this number anywhere in the state, it rings directly into the closest Patrol headquarters.

The Salem 7th grade Basketball Tigers lost to Licking, 37-35 Tuesday night, and the 8th grade Tigers lost, 50-36.

For the second straight year and the third time in the last five seasons, St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols has been named the National League's Most Valuable Player, as voted on by the Baseball Writers' Association of America. This time, though, he was a unanimous choice. Pujols placed first on all 32 ballots cast by two writers from each NL city to receive a total of 448 points to easily outdistance Florida's Hanley Ramirez, as he became the first repeat winner of this award since Barry Bonds won four in a row from 2001-04. Pujols is the 10th player in baseball history to win this award three times. He is also the second Cardinal to complete the hat trick, joining St. Louis legend Stan Musial.

Kim English scored a career-high 26 points to lead Missouri to a 99-56 victory over Chattanooga in second-round play of the South Padre Island Invitational. The Tigers (3-0) harassed the Mocs (2-2) for a school-record 24 steals and poured in 18 3-pointers, just two short of the school record. The Tigers will finish up the tournament this weekend as they will play Old Dominion Friday night, and you can hear the second half of that game on a tape delay basis following the Blues game. Then, depending on whether they win or lose, they will play either Richmond or Mississippi State Saturday following the football game.

The St. Louis Blues will be on the road tonight in Dallas as the play the Stars and in Nashville Friday as they face the Predators. They'll then come home Saturday to face the Detroit Red Wings. All of those games get underway at 7:00 and can be heard on KSMO Radio.

On Saturday the University of Missouri football team will take the field against Kansas wearing the Nike Pro Combat uniform, a new system of dress and the lightest football uniform Nike has ever created. Missouri will be one of ten elite football programs to debut the Nike Pro Combat uniform this month before they are officially introduced at the start of the 2010 season. Missouri is joined by Clemson, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Virginia Tech, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Texas and TCU as the schools debuting the Nike Pro Combat uniform this month.
