The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock has announced extended hours for the Collector’s office for end of the year tax collecting. Saturday hours will be from 9:00 in the morning until 12:00 noon on December 13^th and 20^th. Medlock stated that on December 29^th, 30^th and 31^st, the Collector’s office would be open until 5:30. He also said that the Collector’s office would be open December 26^th for normal business hours. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles was not in attendance as he was attending the MAC conferences.  In his absence, Commissioner Bobby Simpson acted as presiding Commissioner. Second District Commissioner J.J Tune said that Dent County Roads 2160, 2240, 2250 and 2270, will be graded. Tune also said that material will be hauled to Dent County Road 6160, and workers were going to Springfield to get oil for the dura-patcher.  District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson said county roads 2460, 2490, 6330 and 6160 would be graded.  Simpson stated that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5610, and truck drivers would be hauling materials to all the roads. A citizen of Dent County was concerned with the continual discarding of deer carcasses and trash in the ditch line of Dent County Road 3240. She said this happened last year and is occurring again, and is requesting the county to install “No Dumping” signs. Commissioner Tune is not sure that the county had any “No Dumping” signs but assured the citizen it is illegal to dump the carcasses and trash. He recommended that she contact the conservation department concerning the deer carcasses. The citizen also asked about the road counter and why it was only left there from 9:00 in the morning to 4:00 in the afternoon. Tune said that the counters are usually left from 4 days to a week and did not understand why the counter had been moved so soon.  The road counter was placed in the road to determine if enough traffic uses the road to warrant the road to be chip and sealed. At the last Commissioners meeting, Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Sparks had originally asked for a closed session with the Commissioners but determined one was not needed. She said there is a criminal case being presented, a motion being filed and not ruled on. If there is an order, a request for certain closed session commission minutes and policies may be requested.  She also met with Collector Dennis Medlock and Judge Seay with Seay Abstract Company about a back tax bill from 2005. The Commission would like to resolve the issue and have her give them some legal advise on what their responsibility is regarding the situation. The Dent County Courthouse will be closed for Thanksgiving, and the next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Monday, December 1^st at 9:00. The meeting is open to the public.

For Thanksgiving Break, all Dent County schools will dismiss early tomorrow. William Lynch will dismiss at 11:15, Upper Elementary will dismiss at 11:20, the Junior/Senior High will dismiss at 11:30 and the rural schools, Oak Hill R-I, Green Forest R-II, Dent-Phelps R-III and Northwood R-IV will all dismiss at 11:45. Classes will resume on Monday, December 1^st.

Thanksgiving weekend is a time for food, football, and family. The Missouri State Highway Patrol urges motorists to drive safely during this holiday weekend. To that end, the Patrol will participate in Operation C.A.R.E (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) during this period. As part of this operation, all available officers will be assigned to Missouri’s roadways to enforce traffic laws, especially those related to drunk driving, speeding, and seat belt use. Troopers will also be assisting motorists as needed. Many Missourians will be traveling during the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Take the time to make sure your car is in good condition before beginning your trip. It is also important that you are well rested before you start driving. Remember to observe the traffic laws and buckle up. Last year, 10 people were killed and another 572 injured in 1,572 traffic crashes. During this Thanksgiving holiday, if you need assistance, the Highway Patrol is there for you. The Highway Patrol’s Emergency Assistance number is 1-800-525-5555 (or *55 on a cellular phone). This year’s counting period begins tomorrow at 6:00 and will end on Sunday night at 11:59. The emergency assistance number should be used to report traffic crashes, crimes being committed, or other emergencies on Missouri’s highways. When you dial this number anywhere in the state, it rings directly into the closest Patrol headquarters.

The Dent County Fire Protection District will once again hold their annual “Toys For Tots” this year. Signups for the “Toys For Tots” will be held at the fire station on Tuesday, December 2nd and Thursday, December 4th from 3:00 to 8:00 pm. These will be the ONLY signups.

An accident happened Monday morning in Dent County on Highway 19 about seven miles south of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, 18-year old Sean Adams-Jones of Salem was driving a 1989 Ford Ranger when he failed to negotiate a curve and slid off the roadway. The Ford Ranger overturned and struck a mailbox and fence. Adams-Jones suffered minor injuries and was taken by an ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. He was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Ranger was totaled and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

The St. Louis Blues acquired defenseman Carlo Colaiacovo and center Alexander Steen from Toronto in exchange for right wing Lee Stempniak, team president John Davidson announced Monday. Colaiacovo has recorded one assist in 10 games this season for the Maple Leafs. He was originally selected by Toronto with the 17th overall pick of the 2001 draft. Steen was Toronto's first choice and the 24th overall selection of the 2002 draft. The Manitoba native has played in 20 games this season, collecting two goals and two assists. Stempniak has three goals and 13 points in 14 games.

The St. Louis Blues continue their road trip tonight as they will be in Nashville to face the Predators. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting at 6:00. The Blues have won three of the last four games.
