The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their monthly meeting tonight at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00. After approval of the agenda and communications, Superintendent Steven Carvajal will update the Board on the Parent Teacher conferences and Professional Development Day, followed by reports from the principals at the respective schools. In new business, the Board will approve the auditor’s report, set the Board election filings dates, set graduation date for 2015, consider MSBA 2014C policy updates and approve CSIP. The Board will then address resignations and then vote to go into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The November meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

An accident occurred on Sunday, November 9th at 5:50 in the evening on Highway 32 in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, Joy Grover of Licking was driving a 1999 Ford Taurus west near the intersection of Elmer Street when she collided with a pedestrian that was crossing the highway. Grover did not see the pedestrian due them wearing dark clothes. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac to Mercy in St. Louis.  

The City of Salem Board of Aldermen will conduct their regular meeting tonight at 7:00 at the City Hall Council located at 202 North Washington. After a hearing of persons and approval of the consent agenda, Planning and Zoning Board of Commissioner Jerry Craig will report on their meeting from November 20th. Mayor J.J. Tune and City Administrator Ray Walden will then give their reports. In new and miscellaneous business, the board will discuss the setting of the salaries for the newly elected officials before the filing date of December 16th, 2014. The board will then go into closed session for the purpose of discussing litigations and contracts. The meeting of the City of Salem Board of Aldermen is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Wednesday, November 12th at 5:15 in the evening, an officer was detailed to Wal-Mart in reference to shoplifting. The investigation led to the arrest of two 17-year old Salem females for stealing merchandise valued at $15.47. They were issued summonses to appear in court and released. Later that night at 10:42, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft from a vehicle. That investigation revealed that someone took an Alpine CD player, speakers, and an Acoustic amplifier valued at $2,500 from a truck parked in the 1200 block of East Second. On Thursday, November 13th at 9:00 in the evening, an officer transported a 43-year old O'Fallon male to Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Friday, November 14th at 2:40 in the early morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 400 block of East Roosevelt in reference to a domestic disturbance. That investigation led to the arrest of a 34-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct and resisting arrest. He was issued summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. Later that morning at 7:40, an officer transported a 35-year old Salem male to the St. Mary's Health Center in Jefferson City in lieu of a mental commitment order. Later that day at noon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a forgery. That investigation revealed that someone signed the name of another on a Missouri vehicle title at the time of transfer. A little later that afternoon at 12:51, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1400 block of South Washington in reference to a peace disturbance. The investigation revealed that the resident was playing loud music and officers had been detailed to the residence numerous times previously. Further investigation led to the arrest of a 35-year old Salem male for disorderly house. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later on that afternoon at 4:08, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to an assault that occurred at the Country Mart Parking lot. That investigation revealed that a 32-year old Salem male had assaulted a 28-year old Salem male, causing minor injuries. On Sunday, November 16th at 12:47 in the morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated, open container, and supplying intoxicants to a minor. He was issued summonses to appear in court and released. The Houston Adult Education and Literacy (AEL) Program offers free classes in Salem to help adults improve their math or reading skills or prepare for the High Equivalency Test, the HiSET. AEL/HSE classes are free, but students are required to maintain at least 50% attendance and work diligently toward educational gain. The AEL/HSE classes are available Monday- Thursday from 8 a.m. to noon and Monday - Wednesday evening from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Adult Learning Center at 202 North Washington in Salem. Maty Mauk threw two touchdown passes and Marcus Murphy ran for two scores, as No. 19 Missouri picked up a crucial 29-21 win over Tennessee. Mauk completed just 12-of-25 throws for 230 yards, but his fourth-quarter TD passes were the difference. Murphy ran 19 times for 82 yards, and Russell Hansbrough added 68 yards on 15 carries. Missouri (9-2, 6-1 SEC) controls its own destiny in the SEC East. With a win on Friday against Arkansas, the Tigers will return to the SEC championship game for the second straight season.

Jake Allen made 28 saves on 30 shots to lead St. Louis to a 4-2 win over Winnipeg Sunday. Winnipeg native Ryan Reaves scored the eventual game-winner at even strength 2:25 into the third period, while Jaden Schwartz and David Backes added power-play goals in the second period, each time erasing one-goal leads held by Winnipeg. The Blues will host the Ottawa Senators at the Scottrade Center on Tuesday and you can hear the game on KSMO starting with the pre-game show at 6:30.

Marcus Gilchrist intercepted a Shaun Hill pass just inside the end zone as the San Diego Chargers held on for a 27-24 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. The Rams were already in position to attempt a tying field goal when Hill completed a 27-yard pass to Kenny Britt to the San Diego 6-yard line with a little over a minute remaining in the game. Hill looked Britt's way again after a short Benny Cunningham run, but Gilchrist picked off the throw. Hill finished 18-of-35 for 198 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions for St. Louis (4-7), which was coming off a surprising 22-7 home win over Denver last week. The Rams will host the Oakland Raiders at the Edward Jones Dome on Sunday at noon.

The Missouri Tiger basketball team will play the second ranked team in the nation today when they face the Arizona Wildcats as part of the 2014 EA Sports Maui Invitational. Missouri is 2-1 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO starting with the pre-game show at 3:30.

Funeral services for Myla J. Kickbush of Rolla, age 86, will be held at 10:00 Wednesday morning at the First United Methodist Church in Rolla. Visitation will be Tuesday night from 6:00 to 8:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Ozark Hills Memorial Gardens. Memorials may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
