The Salem R-80 Board of Education held their regular meeting Thursday evening at the district administrative offices boardroom. After approval of the agenda and consent agenda, Superintendent Steve Bryant reported that all the parent-teacher conferences went very well. It was noted that the lower grades have a higher percentage of conferences scheduled and attended, as compared to the higher grades. Salem R-80 recently held a Professional Development Day working on the collaboration of teachers on data analysis, consisting of curriculum and assessments. Bryant did add that the "dip" in the implementation phase of the curriculum, has reached the end. Bryant told the Board that he would keep them updated on the CEE lawsuit, and that at this time it appears to be heading for a court ruling in late spring. The Board approved the curriculum, instruction and assessment (CIA) lessons of the month from all four buildings. The Board also approved the program evaluations for the library/media centers, special education, parent education and federal programs. The Board approved the recommendation from Bryant to appointment Trish Connelly as the Board of Education Liaison for the Salem R-80 School Foundation. On the April 7th ballet, there will be two 3-year terms and one 2-year term up for election. Filings for the Board of Education positions will begin on Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at 8:00 am. and will end on Tuesday, January 20, 2009, at 5:00 pm. After review of the applications and discussion, the Board then selected Allison Hall as the MSBA Belcher Scholarship recipient. The Board then went into closed session for the purpose of discussing personnel and discipline when no items were voted on. The meeting was then adjourned.

The Salem Police Department has released their latest reports. On November 17^th at 10:15 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The report led to the arrest of a 30-year old female from Centerville, Missouri for stealing merchandise with an approximate value of $50.00. The suspect was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On November 18, 2008 at 6:26 in the morning an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of East Ellis in reference to a stolen vehicle. A white 1999 Toyota truck valued at  $6500.00 had been taken. The vehicle was located parked on Warfel Street, but missing from the truck was a Remington rifle model 710 30-06 with a Simmons 9x scope and black shoulder strap valued $500.00; a JT Tech 5 Recon paintball gun valued $150.00; and camouflage attire valued $325.00. On November 20^th at 1:45 pm an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a counterfeit check. The report revealed a 33 year-old female of Edgar Springs deposited a counterfeit check at Progressive Ozark Bank. Further investigation revealed she withdrew money on the account causing a $2308.00 loss of funds for the bank. On November 20^th at 1:30 pm, an officer was contacted at the Salem Police Department in reference to a forgery. The investigation of the report revealed that an unknown person forged checks of another in the amount of $374.96. On November 20^th at 7:52 pm an officer was dispatched to Auto Zone in reference to a shoplifter. The report led to the arrest of a 23- year old male of Salem for stealing merchandise valued at $14.99. The suspect was issued a summons to appear in court for stealing and released. An accident happened Friday morning at 8:20 in Texas County on Boone Creek Road about four miles southeast of Licking. According to the highway patrol report, 16-year old Chelsea Hazen of Licking driving a 1992 Pontiac northbound, failed to negotiate a curve and ran off the roadway. Hazen suffered serious injuries and was taken by Air Evac to St. Johns Hospital in Springfield. Hazen was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident and the vehicle sustained extensive damage. The vehicle will be removed by the owner at a later time.

Demarre Carroll scored 29 points and grabbed 11 rebounds, leading Missouri to an 83-72 victory over 19th-ranked Southern California in the consolation bracket of the Puerto Rico Tip-off. J.T. Tiller added 14 points and Leo Lyons chipped in 13 for the Tigers (4-1), who followed up a loss to Xavier in the opening round of the tournament with a win over Fairfield before Sunday's triumph.

Chris Mason stopped 31 shots as the St. Louis Blues handed the Minnesota Wild a 2-1 loss at Xcel Energy Center. Brad Boyes scored a power-play goal and an even-strength goal for the Blues, who have won three of their last four games. the Blues will be in Nashville Tuesday night at 6:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Matt Forte rushed for 132 yards with two touchdowns as the Chicago Bears hammered the St. Louis Rams, 27-3, at the Edward Jones Dome. Trent Green finished 16-of-30 for 219 yards with four interceptions in relief of Marc Bulger for the Rams (2-9), who have lost their last five. Bulger completed both of his passes for 11 yards before leaving early in the first quarter with a concussion after being sacked. Torry Holt had four catches for 84 yards.

Trent Edwards threw two touchdown passes and ran for a pair of scores, as the Buffalo Bills blew out the Kansas City Chiefs, 54-31, in an offensive explosion at Arrowhead Stadium. Tyler Thigpen struggled under center for the Chiefs (1-10), who have found the win column just once in their past 21 contests dating back to last season. Thigpen completed 17-of-31 passes for 240 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions. Tony Gonzalez led all receivers with 113 yards on 10 receptions, including a two-yard touchdown. Larry Johnson gained 81 yards on seven carries in defeat.
