Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, announced that Troop I officers will again be participating special enforcement operations during the upcoming Thanksgiving weekend travel period. Operation C.A.R.E. (Combined Accident Reduction Effort) is a national effort by law enforcement agencies, whereby manpower is concentrated on traffic enforcement over major holiday weekends. As part of this operation, all available officers will be assigned to Missouri’s roadways to enforce traffic laws, especially those related to drunk driving, speeding, and seat belt use. The counting period for the 2011 Thanksgiving holiday weekend is from 6:00 tonight until 11:59 pm on Sunday. In addition to participating in this program, Troop I officers will also be involved in the 20-Mile Trooper enforcement operation on Interstate 44. This detail will be utilized today and Sunday, during designated peak travel times. The objectives of the troopers assigned to this detail will be vigorous enforcement of all traffic laws and to be in close proximity for quick response to any motorist who might need assistance. The Highway Patrol’s Emergency Assistance number is 1-800-525-5555 (or *55 on a cellular phone). Motorists should use this emergency assistance number to report traffic crashes, crimes being committed, or other emergencies on Missouri’s highways. When you dial this number anywhere in the state, it rings directly into the closest Patrol headquarters.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a stolen debit card, theft of fuel, assault, a search warrant, disturbances, and a traffic violation. On Monday, November 14^th at 1:57 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the police station in reference to a stolen debit card. The investigation revealed that a person or persons unknown stole a debit card and used it at an ATM to withdraw $360. On Tuesday, November 15^th at 12:25 in the early morning, an officer was dispatched to the 800 block of North Washington Street in reference to a disturbance involving an intoxicated male. The investigation led to the arrest of a 32-year old male of Salem for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. On Wednesday, November 16^th at 12:46 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to Casey’s General Store on Highway 32 East in reference to a theft of fuel. The investigation revealed that the driver of a black Pontiac Sunfire pumped $44.91 in fuel and left without paying. At 11:30 that same night, an officer was dispatched to the 1300 block of Iron Mountain Road in reference to an assault. The investigation revealed that a 25-year old Salem male assaulted a 21-year old Salem male with a beer bottle causing injury. Further investigation led to the arrest of the suspect who was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Thursday, November 17^th at 1:19 in the afternoon, officers served a search warrant at a residence in the 800 block of East Hunt.  Prescription pills, drug paraphernalia, and a little over a half-pound of marijuana was located at the residence. Four Salem individuals were arrested in connection with the search warrant.  A 54-year old male and a 48-year old female were incarcerated pending the application for warrants. A 38-year old male and a 19-year old male were issued summons to appear in court and released. At 7:28 that evening, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 200 block of West Hunt in reference to a disturbance. The investigation led to the arrest of a 54-year old Salem female for disorderly conduct. She was incarcerated and will be issued a summons to appear in court upon release. On Saturday, November 19^th at 11:38 pm, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 35-year old male of Licking for driving while intoxicated. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Anyone with any information regarding the thefts, which are still under investigation, is asked to contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Dent County One Ton Weight Loss Challenge Committee would like to announce that a total of 29 teams with 266 individuals are participating in this challenge. The total weight of all participants is 52,833 pounds and the overall goal is for the participants to lose a combined One Ton (2,000 pounds) of weight during the challenge that concludes in May of 2012. Each team captain reports the monthly weight loss of their team members and for the month of October the combined pounds lost for all teams was 474.6 pounds.  Each months winning team will receive a traveling trophy to designate their accomplishment. Monthly activities are planned to help participants realize their weight loss goals. In November, the One Ton Challenge committee is helping to promote the Turkey Trot Fun Run/Walk that will be held on Thanksgiving Day and in December the Jingle Bell Run, both of which will be held at the Salem United Methodist Church. For additional information please call Susie at 247-1877 or e-mail loseoneton@gmail.com.

Willie Mitchell's goal with 5:49 left in regulation led the Los Angeles Kings past St. Louis, 3-2, at the Scottrade Center Tuesday. Vladimir Sobotka and Alex Steen tallied for the Blues, who have lost two in a row after winning three straight. Jaroslav Halak allowed three goals on 28 shots in defeat. The Blues will be in Pittsburgh to play the Penguins tonight at 6:00 and you’ll be able to hear it on KSMO Radio.

Kim English led six Tigers into double figures with 19 points, as No. 21 Missouri buried 20th-ranked California, 92-53, in the championship game of the CBE Classic. Marcus Denmon added 18 points, Matt Pressey donated 13 points, Michael Dixon registered 11 and Ricardo Ratliffe joined Steve Moore with 10 points. Missouri will host Binghamton on Sunday at 1:30.

Funeral services for James "Jim" Bartlow of Steelville, age 87, will this morning at 10:00 at the First Baptist Church of Steelville. Funeral services for Frances C. Engelmeyer of St. James, age 82, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to The Golden Age Center of St. James.

Funeral services for Carl Wayne Norris of El Reno, Oklahoma, age 53, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Stone Hill Cemetery.

Memorial services for Sharon Kay Kinsley Magnus of San Antonio, Texas, age 67, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Ridgeview Christian Church in Rolla. All Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Bettylou Wood of Salem, age 55, passed away Monday. No services are planned and all arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Funeral services for Sarah Jeanne Gatrell of Steelville, age 69, will be held Monday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be held Sunday from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Keysville Cemetery in Keysville. Memorials may be made to the cemetery.
