The Salem R-80 Board of Education conducted their regular monthly meeting Thursday night. After approval of the agenda, Superintendent Steve Bryant updated the Board on the success of the Parent/Teacher conferences that were held, with the high school having more than normal conferences for this year. Then both teachers and principles reported on the productiveness of the Professional Development Day. Bryant then updated the Board on facilities and reported that the some roof work has been completed to date and that the roof on the Jr/Sr High School is being worked on, but due to recent rainy weather conditions, the production had slowed down. Last month there was a discussion about a wood burning boiler project and with the grants not being sufficient enough to support that project, it was dropped. Bryant reported that the PTO had donated half of the cost of the playground equipment at William Lynch Elementary with the other half coming from the Cox Foundation. The Cox Foundation also covered an additional cost for the rubber tiles, thus Phase One is now completed and the PTO is currently working on Phase Two. Bryant told the Board that the Girls Volleyball team did very well this year and the Salem Football team progressed into the post season. Bryant and the Board wanted to thank the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce for their nominations as Business of the Year and Visionary Business of the Year. Bryant reported that the Salem R-80 School District had received an Outstanding Service Award from the Salem Ministerial Fellowship. There was a simulation presentation by the 8th grade PLC Team of their PLC meeting that they conduct on Monday afternoons after school. The Board then approved the program evaluations for the Library/Media Centers, Special Education and Parent Education. It was noted that in 2007/2008 the drop out rate for Special Education was 12.76 percent and that for the year 2008/2009 the rate was 1.75 percent and that a big difference had been seen since the implementation of the class-n-class instruction. There are a total of 246 students in the program and six attend the State School in Salem where the tuition is paid by the Salem R-80 school district. Board Member Carrie Snider then reported on the MSBA/MASA annual conference that she attended and thanked the Board. The Board then approved the election filing dates as two seats will be available, those of Wade Jadwin and Greg Nash. The election filing will begin on December 15th at 8:00 am and will end on January 19th at 5:00 pm. Due to the Christmas holiday; the hours for filing will be from 8:00 am to 3:00 pm from December 23rd through January 3rd. After closed session where personnel and discipline was discussed, the Board chose Bret Hagler as the recipient of the MSBA Belcher Scholarship to represent the Salem R-80 School District. The meeting was then adjourned.

Dent County Fire Toy Drive sign ups will be held on Tuesday, December 1^st and Thursday, December 3^rd from 3:00 pm – 7:00 pm at the Dent County Fire Protection District station. The pick up dates will be the Thursday and Friday, December 17^th and 18^th and they will sign up for pick up times when they sign up for the toys. Rules for the 2009 Dent County Fire Toy Drive are: any person living in Dent County who feels they cannot provide Christmas to their children, ages birth to 12-years of age, are encouraged to participate; it is for only children ages birth to 12-years of age and there will be NO EXCEPTIONS. This year those signing up must provide proof that children are living their home more than 50% of the time (copy of school report, printout from local agencies from whom they receive services, etc) and they must also provide proof of residency (electric bill, mail, etc); and proof of the date of birth of the children. Any child who was chosen for the Shop with a Cop program will not be allowed to participate in the Dent County Fire Toy Drive. Children are not allowed to come with parents on toy pick up day. For more information regarding the 2009 Dent County Fire Toy Drive call the Dent County Fire Protection District at 729-3250. Those wishing to participate by dropping off new or used toys in good clean condition, can drop them off at the Dent County Fire Protection District, the Salem Police Department, Dollar General or at the KSMO Radio station in the front room. Monetary donations are being accepted.

The Dent County Health Center will be holding an H1N1 Flu Clinic today from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm. The clinic is open to anyone who wishes to receive a vaccination with the following stipulations; must be 6 months or older, not sick the day of the clinic, not allergic to eggs, pregnant women MUST bring a doctor's order and children must have parental consent to receive the vaccine. For more information call the Dent County Health Center at 729-3106. There is no charge for the vaccine.

Blaine Gabbert threw for 337 yards and two touchdowns, as the Missouri Tigers rallied for a 34-24 win over the Iowa State Cyclones in a Big 12 matchup at Faurot Field. Danario Alexander hauled in 11 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers (7-4, 3-4 Big 12), who avoided a fourth straight loss at Faurot Field. Fellow wideout Jerrel Jackson finished with 142 yards and a score on eight catches. Mizzou plays Kansas Saturday in the regular season finale.

David Perron scored a pair of insurance goals in the third period, as the St. Louis Blues scored four unanswered goals to defeat the New York Islanders, 4-1, at Scottrade Center. Eric Brewer and Patrik Berglund also lit the lamp for the Blues. Chris Mason stopped 23-of-24 shots for the victors. The Blues finish their home stand tonight when they take on the Bruins on KSMO.

Kurt Warner threw for a pair of touchdowns before the leaving the game late in the second quarter, as the Arizona Cardinals continued their strong play on the road with a 21-13 win over the lowly St. Louis Rams. Steven Jackson carried the ball 24 times for 116 yards and a score for the Rams (1-9). Marc Bulger completed 19-of-37 passes for 215 yards and an interception while Donnie Avery hauled in four passes for 65 yards for St. Louis.

Ryan Succop kicked a 22-yard field goal in overtime, as the Kansas City Chiefs erased a 10-point halftime deficit to stun the Pittsburgh Steelers, 27-24, at Arrowhead Stadium. The game-winning boot was set up by a 61-yard passing play between Matt Cassel and Chris Chambers on third down. Cassel finished 15-of-30 through the air for 248 yards and two touchdowns for the Chiefs (3-7), who snapped a 10-game losing streak at home. Jamaal Charles opened the scoring with a kickoff return and his two-yard grab drew Kansas City even with 4:54 to play in fourth quarter.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers went on a 40-2 run in the first half and never looked back as they dominated Texas-Pan American Sunday, 100-44. Kim English had 25 points to lead Missouri followed by Laurence Bowers with 14, Zaire Taylor with 13 and Marcus Denmon with 10. Missouri is 2-0 on the year and will face Chattanooga Tuesday at 7:00.
