The Dent County Commissioners met for their meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. During the hearing of persons, Deloris Gray Wood came in to update the Commission on the Battle of Salem ceremony that will be held on Saturday, December 3rd at 2:00 pm at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road reports, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that crews would be checking roads for damage, downed signs, needed repairs and washouts. Purcell also reported that a grader is in the shop and will have six new tires put on, and equipment is being made ready for winter weather. Purcell also said that he would be attending a Tourism meeting Monday night. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that crews would be checking for damage, downed signs, needed repairs, downed trees and clogged pipes. Larson also reported that brush was being cut and truck #110 and tractor #4 were being serviced. Larson said that he spoke with the service company last week regarding the standby generator located at the Oak Grove Church. The company came to test the generator and it tested out as well as it was when installed. The tank will be topped off with fuel and an additive would be added for the winter weather. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he would be presiding over the Public Housing Authority meeting in St. James today. Skiles wanted to remind everyone that the Dent County Courthouse would be closed on Thursday, November 24th and Friday, November 25th in observance of Thanksgiving. Skiles also reported that MoDOT would be in Salem on Wednesday, December 7th from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at the Salem High School cafeteria for a briefing meeting regarding three Dent County bridges to be replaced in 2012. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be on Monday, November 28th beginning at 9:00 am at the Dent County Courthouse, and that meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Board of Aldermen held their regular meeting Monday night at the City Hall Council Chambers. The board approved the request from SOLVE to place a collection box on the parking lot at 3rd Street and Washington Street, and they approved the use of the City Park for the 2012 Relay for Life from 8:00 AM June 23rd until 2:00 AM June 24th. The board then authorized Director of Public Works Bill Huffman to check out three bids for vehicles that would work best for the Water and Sewer Department. The board approved the bid from Melrose Asphalt for the paving of Rolla Road from Water Street to east of Coffman gate for $8,460.00. Director of Public Works Bill Huffman said that the electric department is preparing the Christmas lights for installation next week. Huffman said that work has begun on the new lighting at the airport and it is officially closed until further notice. City Administrator Clayton Lucas said that he is now on the Department of Economic Development list for grants, and said that the police department received a grant for six new light bars for police vehicles with the money budgeted being enough for the matching part of the grant. Mayor Gary Brown said that a meeting would be held in St. Robert on December 6th with the Mid-Missouri Municipal Energy Pool to vote on a proposed electric rate. He also read a proclamation that recognizes the sesquicentennial of the Civil War Battle of Salem on December 3rd. The board approved Resolution 24-2011 that authorizes the mayor to enter into an agreement with Sullivan Publications, Inc. for codification services. A call for a municipal election was held for an east ward alderman, west ward alderman and mayor for April 3rd, 2012 with filing dates from December 13th at 8:00 AM until January 17th at 5:00 PM. There is a $25 filing fee and aldermen must be 21 years of age and live in the ward they are running for, and mayoral candidates must be 25 years of age. The board then set the salary for the mayor effective after the next election at $1,000 per month, and they also set the alderman’s salary per month at $400 no matter how many meetings they may hold. Currently, the aldermen receive $100 per meeting and the mayor gets $550 per month. City Attorney William Camm Seay was authorized to prepare an ordinance for citizens in Salem to show proof of financial responsibility when driving their vehicle, and also to prepare an ordinance concerning pawn shops and brokers to report items collected to the police. The board gave City Administrator Clayton Lucas permission to review the fees charged for the rental of city facilities as he said right now they are not covering the costs of the maintenance and cleaning of the facility, and the board gave him permission to prepare a written agreement between the city and the county for the joint use and expansion of the shooting range at the Master’s Industrial Park. The board then went into closed session.

Reed E. Detring, Superintendent at the Ozark National Scenic Riverways is hanging up his ranger hat after 35 years of federal service at parks from Washington State to Florida. He has served as Ozark’s Superintendent since June 22, 2008. He’ll be packing up his office, turning in property and tying up final loose projects, taking down the flag and locking the door on Friday, December 2nd.

Marcus Denmon scored 26 points on 9-of-11 shooting for No. 21 Missouri, leading the sharp-shooting Tigers to an 87-58 drubbing of Notre Dame in the semifinals of the CBE Classic. Phil Pressey added 17 points and Ricardo Ratliffe donated 12 points and eight rebounds in the lopsided win. You can hear the Tigers play California in the CBE Classic championship game tonight following the St. Louis Blues game on KSMO Radio.

New England Patriot’s Tom Brady threw a pair of touchdown passes in a 34-3 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs Monday. Chiefs quarterback Tyler Palko made his first career start in place of Matt Cassel, who was place on season ending injury reserve. Palko finished with 236 yards on 25-of-38 passing with three interceptions. The Chiefs play the Steelers Sunday.

The St. Louis Blues host the LA Kings tonight at 6:30. You’ll be able you hear it on KSMO Radio.

Funeral services for James "Jim" Bartlow of Steelville, age 87, will Wednesday morning at 10:00 at the First Baptist Church of Steelville. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 tonight at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre. Memorials may be given to the Gibbs Care Memorial Fund in care of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Frances C. Engelmeyer of St. James, age 82, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to The Golden Age Center of St. James.

Funeral services for Carol Wayne Norris of El Reno, Oklahoma, age 53, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Stone Hill Cemetery.

Memorial services for Sharon Kay Kinsley Magnus of San Antonio, Texas, age 67, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Ridgeview Christian Church in Rolla. All Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Bettylou Wood of Salem, age 55, passed away Monday. No services are planned and all arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
