The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors held their regular monthly meeting Thursday evening in the hospital library. Stephanie Wofford presented the summary of operations for the month of October. There were 1,810 outpatients registered during the month with 833 people using the emergency room. For the month, the hospital showed an excess of revenues over expenses of $35,660. Carol Lacy gave the director of nursing report and there were 198 ambulance runs with 188 patients assessed and 56 dry runs, 25 surgery cases, 186 Home Health visits, 8,229 lab tests, 1,098 radiological procedures, 219 CT scans, 40 MRI scans, 29 nuclear med scans, 385 rehab treatments, 244 dialysis treatments and 376 clinical visits. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor gave the Auxiliary report and they made $1,800 from the Masquerade Jewelry sale fundraiser, and the Holiday Home Tour will be held on December 5^th. In the construction update, Pryor stated that the electric panel installation will be completed shortly, the Long-Term Care expansion began on November 15^th and the activity room brick has been removed. He said that the new receptionist area work has been delayed while the painting in the surgery center continues. Both the business office and Home Health have now moved to the lower level of Physicians Office Building #3. Casey Lucas reported on the Electronic Medical Record timeline and he said that nothing has changed except the emergency department went online with their Med-Host transition with no major problem and that is now about 90% complete. He said that a vendor list of Physician Practice Management Software has been compiled and was to be reviewed this past Saturday. He also said that the hospital wide wireless network is now complete. Administrator Dennis Pryor said that there would be three Total Wellness Screenings held in 2011: February, May and September. Pryor stated that the Hospital Foundation Committee is still preparing their by-laws while there was a descriptive change to one by-law in the Medical Staff Responsibility Section. In Branson at the Strategic Planning meeting, the strategic plan was updated. Still at the top of the list were physician recruitment and retention as well as the hospital and physician electronic health records. New to the list is the creation of a hospice and for the hospital to recruit more specialists to Salem to serve its patients. Continuing to be a part of the plan is addressing the workforce shortage and the continuation of community perception as well as the establishment of the foundation program. In new business, the election filing for District #4 will be from December 14^th through the 18^th. That district includes Bunker and is currently held by Joe Hayes. Pryor then talked about the Salem TCRC and the elimination of support by the University of Missouri Extension. He said that a meeting of all the partners would be held this morning at 9:30 to discuss the future of the TCRC in Salem. He also went on to say that the hospital health insurance fund would only see a two percent increase in premiums for 2011. The board approved the budgeted purchase of a bariatric transfer stretcher for surgery from Stryker for $5,000 as it is a demo model, and the purchase of a point-of-care technology cart for the emergency room for $2,838 from CDW-G. Non-budgeted purchases approved by the board included gigabit switch for information Systems from PC Connection for $429, a Symantec Backup system for the server from CDW-G for $850 and a Safety Analyzer for maintenance from BC Group for $887. The next board meeting will be December 9^th at the Holiday Inn Express. The board then went into closed session.

An accident happened in Dent County Sunday morning at 11:20 on Route Z about five miles south of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, 56-year old Jerry Leonard of Salem was driving a 1993 Cadillac northbound when he ran off the right side of the roadway where the Cadillac became airborne over a culvert. The car then struck the culvert and overturned. Leonard suffered serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac to St. Johns Hospital in St. Louis. Leonard was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident. The Cadillac sustained extensive damage and was moved from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

Blaine Gabbert threw for 172 yards and a touchdown on 16-of-26 passing and De'Vion Moore rushed for a score as the 15th- ranked Missouri Tigers topped the Iowa State Cyclones, 14-0, at Jack Trice Stadium. Moore rushed for 32 yards on 10 carries and Michael Egnew caught seven passes for 76 yards and a score for the Tigers (9-2, 5-2 Big 12). Mizzou will face rival Kansas Jayhawks at Arrowhead Stadium Saturday in the regular season finale.

Ricardo Ratliffe scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, as the Missouri Tigers dominated the North Florida Ospreys, 96-58. Marcus Denmon added 18 points for the Tigers (2-0), who own a 49-game non- conference home court-winning streak. Kim English tallied 13 points for Missouri, which got 12 points and 10 boards from Laurence Bowers. Mizzou heads to Cancun to face Wyoming on Tuesday.

Brad Winchester scored the game-winning goal early in the third period to lift St. Louis to a 3-2 comeback win over the New Jersey Devils at the Scottrade Center Saturday. Alex Pietrangelo and Eric Brewer notched the other goals for the Blues, who got 35 stops from Jaroslav Halak to remain undefeated at home in regulation (8-0-1). On Friday night, Andy McDonald notched his 150th career goal as St. Louis snapped a lengthy losing streak in its 5-2 decision over the Ottawa Senators. The Blues will be in Nashville to face the Predators Wednesday night.

Thomas Jones and Dwayne Bowe each scored twice as the Kansas City Chiefs took a 31-13 win over the Arizona Cardinals at Arrowhead Stadium.
