The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors met Tuesday night at the hospital library. After going into closed session, the board reviewed the statistics for month of October and it showed inpatient admissions and inpatient census days were way down for the month as well as year to date. Outpatient registrations in October were over-budget and exceeded the previous year by almost 300. Inpatient revenue was below budget and helped to contribute to a loss from operations of $105,318. Year-to-date, the excess of expenses over revenues is $12,637. Accounts receivable continues to be strong at the hospital as days in accounts receivable stand at 42 which is down a day from last month, but have remained near that figure over the last three months. The hospital showed a decrease in cash of over $39,000 from the cash flow statement resulting in the reduction of two days of cash on hand to 69. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy reported that during the month, there were 798 emergency room visits with an average turnaround time of 116 minutes. Also during the month, there were 204 ambulance runs with 199 patients being assessed, 28 surgery cases, 1,940 outpatient registrations, 120 home health visits, 8,554 lab tests, 1,033 radiological procedures, 187 CT scans, 17 MRI scans, 14 nuclear med scans, 517 rehab treatments, 177 dialysis treatments and 384 clinical visits of which 154 were for podiatry. The hospital reviewed their strategic planning goals and Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor indicated that the hospital would again be looking for a doctor for Internal Medicine as hospital personnel will be attending eight events between this December and April of 2014. Assistant Administrator Kasey Lucas was attending training and was not in attendance as the Electronic Medical Record timeline was reviewed. The Health Screening dates for 2014 were announced and they will be held on February 12^th and 13^th, May 7^th and 8^th and September 10^th and 11^th. Joe Brand reported on the Foundation Program and said that the advisory board reviewed and discussed the brochure. It was announced that filing for the District #1 Board of Director position currently held by Judy Thompson would begin December 17^th and last through January 21^st, 2014 at the hospital. It was also announced that a joint Board of Directors and Medical Staff dinner would be held on Tuesday, December 10^th starting at 5:30. The board did approve the purchase of a document scanner for radiology to replace the old one for $1,012 from PC Connection. The board then went into closed session.

The Salem Police Department released their reports. On Sunday, November 10^th at 3:52 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 25-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that day at 1:25, an officer located a 27-year old Salem male in the 1400 block of South Washington who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending a court appearance. Then at 2:45 the same afternoon, an officer went to an address located in the 500 block of Roosevelt and located a 21-year old Salem male who had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending a court appearance. On Tuesday, November 12^th at 8:10 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Walnut Motel at the intersection of Highway 32 and 19 in reference a theft from a room. That investigation revealed that someone took a Dynex 26 inch flat screen television valued at $350 from a room. Later that afternoon at 3:09, an officer responded to a residence in the 700 block of East Roosevelt in reference a domestic disturbance. The investigation revealed that a 44-year old Salem male was assaulting a 30-year old Salem female upon the officer’s arrival. He was taken into custody for 1st degree domestic assault and incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. On Wednesday, November 13^th at 4:28 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Walmart in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that a 26-year old Salem male had stolen numerous items valued at $978. He was arrested and incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. Later that night at 10:10, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 1000 block of South Pershing in reference to a stabbing. The investigation revealed that a 25-year old Salem female had stabbed a 32-year old Salem male in the chest with a steak knife. She was apprehended and incarcerated pending the application for warrants for 1st degree assault.  The victim was airlifted to a hospital in St. Louis for treatment of serious injuries. Later that night at 11:16, an officer responded to a residence in the 100 block of North Washington in reference to someone getting into a parked vehicle. That investigation revealed that a resident chased the intruder to an area near Second and Washington where the resident subdued the suspect until Police arrival. The suspect, a 21-year old Salem male, was taken into custody for tampering with a motor vehicle and assault. He was then incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. Anyone with info regarding the theft, which is still under investigation, is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.
