The Salem R-80 Board of Education held their monthly meeting Thursday evening at the district administrative offices boardroom. The Board yearbook group picture was postponed due with two members not in attendance. The Board heard reports from each of the building principals concerning participation in the Parent/Teacher conferences, and they stated that overall, the attendance was good. Superintendent Cindy Rumpf reported that the ExxonMobil Grant is available again this year for $500. The district has applied for the grant and it would be used for clickers for the student response system. Rumpf wanted to thank Dean Barger the ExxonMobil representative in this area for offering the grant. Principal John Smith then reported that Sara Watts has been selected to the All State Choir and will perform at the music conference held at the end of January. Adam Wood is the alternate. Board member Carrie Snider reported that she attended the MSBA/MASA Fall Regional meeting in St. James and found the meeting very informative. Junior High Principal Doug Cuneio reported on the 7th grade Thematic Unit which deals with weather. Students worked together using Math, Social Studies, Communication Arts and Science to come up with information, graphs, supplies and even videos explaining their findings regarding the various degrees and different kinds of weather. In new business, the Board set the election filing dates starting December 13th and running through January 17th. Most days, the district administrative office will be open from 8:00 in the morning until 4:00 in the afternoon. Interested candidates may call the office at 729-6642 for holiday office hours. The Board approved the selection of Rachelle Hayes as the MSBA Belcher Scholarship Recipient. Matthew James, CPA, then presented the board with the annual audit for the school district for the school year ended June 30, 2011. The audit showed that the district is in very good financial condition with total revenues of $12,510,260 and total expenses of $11,901,437 last year. After some discussion, the Board approved the auditor’s report. The Board changed the meeting time for their December meeting from 6:00 to 7:15 due to a conflict of events that evening. The Board also approved the amendments and/or revisions to the current budget, and approved the renewal of the liability insurance through MUSIC for a total of $142,402. Mr. McCulloch presented a request from the City of Salem for a right-of-way easement for the storm water drainage ditch east of the football field and the board approved that request before they accepted the resignation of Lindsay Sampson as a personal aide at the Upper Elementary effective November 29th. After regular business, the Board voted to go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing student issues.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their next meeting tonight at the City Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda, during the Hearing of Persons, the SOLVE organization is requesting permission to place a collection box on the City’s parking lot at Third and Washington Streets, and Marilyn Swetzer of Relay For Life 2012 is requesting permission to reserve the City Park from 8:00 am June 23, 2012 through 2:00 am June 24^th for the Dent County Relay for Life event. In bids, the City had requested written proposals for the purchase of a used pickup with utility bed and the asphalting of Rolla Road and those bids will be addressed. After approval of the consent agenda, in Unfinished Business, the City requested written proposals for the codification of the City Code Book. City Administrator Clayton Lucas will present the proposals and his recommendation. Director of Public Works Bill Huffman will update the Board on current department projects, City Administrator Clayton Lucas will give his report concerning items involving the city and Mayor Gary Brown will present a proclamation that marks December 3^rd, 2011 the Sesquicentennial Civil War Ceremony of the “Battle of Salem”. During the Introduction and Reading of Bills, Resolution #24-2011 a resolution authorizing the mayor to execute an agreement between the City of Salem and Sullivan Publications, Inc. for the codification of the City Code Book will be presented. In New or Miscellaneous business, the City of Salem will hold a Municipal Election April 3, 2012 for the purpose of electing a Mayor, one West Ward and one East Ward Alderman. Candidates must file with the City Clerk beginning Tuesday, December 13^th at 8:00 am and ending Tuesday, January 17^th at 5:00 pm. The Board of Alderman should then discuss the setting of the salaries for the newly elected officials before the filing date. City Attorney William Seay will present a draft ordinance requiring proof of financial responsibility for the Alderman to consider; and a request for a draft ordinance requiring pawn shops/brokers to report to the Police Department. Clayton Lucas would then like to discuss with the Board the updating of the City of Salem Facility Rental Agreement and the Police Department Shooting Range Expansion at the Industrial Park. The Board will then vote to go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The City of Salem Board of Alderman meeting is open to the public.

James Franklin rushed for 152 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner with 2:22 left in regulation as the Missouri Tigers topped the Texas Tech Red Raiders 31-27 in a Big 12 game at Faurot Field Saturday. Franklin threw for 172 yards and two scores to complement his running exploits. Kendial Lawrence rushed for 95 yards and a touchdown for the Tigers (6-5, 4-4 Big 12). Missouri plays Kansas in their regular season finale Saturday.

Mikko Koivu's second score equalized the game late in the third period and Matt Cullen tallied the decisive shootout goal, lifting the Wild to a 3-2 victory over the Blues. TJ Oshie and David Backes scored for the Blues, who had won three in a row. The Blues host the LA Kings Tuesday night at 6:30.

Marshawn Lynch and Justin Forsett ran for touchdowns in the second half as the Seattle Seahawks dropped the St. Louis Rams, 24-7, at Edward Jones Dome. St. Louis Rams (2-8) quarterback Sam Bradford threw for 181 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. St. Louis hosts Arizona Sunday.

The Missouri Tiger basketball team will be in Kansas City to play Notre Dame as part of the CBE Classic tonight at 6:00. You can hear that game on KSMO Radio.

The Kansas City Chiefs play the New England Patriots tonight on Monday Night Football.

Funeral services for Rickey D. (Tucker) Mowery of Salem, age 41, will be held today at 1:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.

Funeral services for James "Jim" Bartlow of Steelville, age 87, will Wednesday morning at 10:00 at the First Baptist Church of Steelville. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 Tuesday at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the St. Francois Memorial Park in Bonne Terre. Memorials may be given to the Gibbs Care Memorial Fund in care of the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home.

Funeral services for Frances C. Engelmeyer of St. James, age 82, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to The Golden Age Center of St. James.

Memorial services for Sharon Kay Kinsley Magnus of San Antonio, Texas, age 67, will be held Saturday at 11:00 at the Ridgeview Christian Church in Rolla. All Arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
