The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. District One Commissioner Bobby Simpson was not in attendance at the meeting. Commissioner J.J. Tune from District Two said that many of the workers were on vacation. He did say that materials would be taken to Dent County Road 6160 and rock would be hauled to Dent County Road 2270. Tune said that there is a problem with the turbo on the Caterpillar and their repairman was to return to correct that problem. That work being performed on the CAT is warranty work. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the city workers were working on replacing the burnt out lights around the courthouse so that they will be ready for the ceremony to be held after the Christmas Parade. Skiles said that he and Dent County Clerk Angie Curley would be attending the Missouri Association of Counties conference Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Brenda Bell, Cindy Ard and Dennis Medlock may also be attending, but would only be at the conference for one day. Skiles did say that Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Sparks asked to meet with the commissioners in closed session to discuss possible litigation. That meeting was to be held at 10:00 yesterday morning, but Sparks was still court at that time. The next meeting of the commissioners will be held Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital held their regular meeting Thursday evening in the hospital library. In the summary of operations for October, the excess of revenues over expenses came to $10,740 after taxes resulting from outpatient registrations and the controlling of expenses. Cash for the hospital increased by $9,452 and the amount of days accounts were in accounts receivable stood at 50 for the month. The hospital auxiliary made $710 from their Imagination Book Fair, and their Holiday Home Tour will be held on December 7^th and will cost $6.00. The Physicians Office Building is still not finished as some of the electric work has not yet been completed. The cost to date is $1,095,064 while $931,500 was budgeted for the project. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor felt that the building should be completed by December 16^th. The General Health Screening in November was a success with 159 participants bringing the total amount of people attending all the health screenings to 604. Pryor said that hospital would do the health screenings again in 2009. He also said that about 300 kids attended the hospital’s “trick or treat” event making it a tremendous success. In the Chief of Staff’s report, the board approved courtesy staff privileges for Dr. Joey Christmas. Pryor reported on the Hospital Health Consortium and said that two bids are still out, but the bid they received was higher than the premium the hospital can get on the current policy through current carrier. Pryor said that the current insurance carrier said that the increase in premium for the next year would only be about 1%. Pryor reported that he has been elected to the MHA Board of Trustees as a voting member for the next three years. In new business, the board approved budgeted purchases of a Pediatric Crib from Burrows for $3,908 for Acute Care, a charcoal assembly for the laboratory for $345 from Micro Technology, and two projectors for the information systems for $2,187 from PC Connection. They also approved the non-budgeted purchase of shades for the dining room for the Long Term Care Center from Phoenix Textiles for 2,275, and purchased One Medical Record Number Software from CPSI for $10,000. Administrator Pryor then announced that election filing for the board seat for District 2 currently held by Sheila Kunkel will begin December 16^th and last through January 20^th. The term of the position is six years. The board will hold their annual employee holiday dinner at the city hall auditorium on Friday, December 12^th starting at 5:30. The next meeting of the board will be held at 5:30 on December 12^th at the Holiday Inn Express at 5:30 prior to their annual Board of Directors/Medical Staff meeting. The board then voted to go into closed session.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call Wednesday afternoon at a residence on Highway H in regards to an unresponsive white male and contacted the coroner. Dent County Coroner Gina White pronounced 36-year old Glen Lee Smith of Potosi dead at 2:07. Dr. Carl Stacy of the Boone and Callaway County Medical Examiner’s office preformed an autopsy. Cause of death is pending the autopsy and toxicology reports.

Terrell Holloway scored 12 points, including the go-ahead free throws with 1:21 left and four more in the final minute, and Xavier held on for a 75-71 win over Missouri in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Classic. DeMarre Carroll scored 17 points to lead Missouri (2-1), which made only 15-of-31 free throws in the loss. Leo Lyons scored 15 points, but made only 5-of-10 at the charity stripe, and J.T. Tiller added 13 points and five boards for the Tigers, who will play Fairfield this morning at 10:00 on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Blues will be back in action tonight as they host the Anaheim Ducks stating at 7:30. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

The Big 12 North Champion Missouri Tigers have tomorrow off and will face Kansas next week.

The St. Louis Rams will host the Chicago Bears while Kansas City will host Buffalo on Sunday.

St. Louis Rams running back Steven Jackson will not play Sunday against Bears because of a strained right thigh muscle. Jackson was hurt during the October 19 game against Dallas, despite rushing for 160 yards and three touchdowns, and has now missed four of the Rams' last five games.
