The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning.  At the meeting Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that District 1 would be continuing routine grading routes.  Simpson said that grading would be done in the East Spring Creek District on Dent County Roads 412B and 421, in the Sinkin Township area, and on Dent County Roads 650 and 651.  District 1 crews would also be patching various chip and seal roads and hauling gravel to various roads throughout District 1.  Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done in the Anutt area on Dent County Roads 220 and 236, then moving on to the Lenox area.  Tune said grading would also be done in the Boss area and on Dent County Road 616 and brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 314 and 326.  Dent County Clerk Janet Inman reported that the clerk’s office took phone bids for propane for the courthouse. Titan bid $1.419 per gallon and Chilton Oil Company bid $1.40 per gallon.  The bid was awarded to Chilton Oil Company.  Inman also wanted to remind everyone that the courthouse would be closed Thursday and Friday in observance of Thanksgiving.  Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock reported that the collector’s office would be open Saturday, December 16th from 8:00 am to 12 pm and Saturday, December 30th from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

The City of Salem Board of Aldermen held their regular meeting Monday evening at the city hall council chambers. At the meeting, the board approved the bid from Utility Service Company of Jefferson City for $1,125 to inspect the 150,000-gallon water tower at the Water Department. This needs to be done by law every three years. The board took no action on joining the Missouri Public Utility Alliance and they wanted to have their representative come back to Salem to answer questions from the board. Alderman Bill Riley requested the board review the ordinance that prohibits members of the same family or extended family by marriage to work in the same department. After a long discussion, the board agreed to the leave the policy as is. Alderman Jim McDaniels asked about the park grant inspection and Mayor Gary Brown said that DNR was impressed with the concession stand and layout, but did require the city to provide handicapped access to each field. Brown said that a six-foot by 20-foot pad would be poured behind each backstop with a six-foot wide walk poured from the concession to the field. McDaniels asked about the emergency generator for the city hall auditorium and Brown said that the contractor requested that the generator be placed on the pad today. Work should be completed in the next ten days to two weeks. McDaniels asked about Third Street and Water and Sewer Superintendent Jack Emery said that there have been no sewer problems there but it needs to be video taped, but he did say that the water main needs to be replaced. Alderman Mike Whitley asked about the crosswalk in front of the Salem TCRC and Mayor Brown told him that the man from MoDOT who looked it over originally is now in Columbia, and a new person is in charge of that and has not been in town to le the city know where they can put up the crossing lights. Mayor Brown then reported that Wal-Mart donated seven benches for the city park. He also wanted to thank Smith Monument for helping with the moving of tombstones at the cemetery. Brown said that traffic surveys are going to be done in the city and that a permit has been approved from DNR for the sewer line on Highway 32 west to the 32-72 junction. He also said that the next meeting on December 4^th would be at the Salem TCRC. The board approved keeping the pay for each meeting at $100 and the next municipal election will be held on April 3^rd for the seats currently held by West Ward Alderman Bill Riley and East Ward Alderman Jim Jackson. Filings will be received from December 12^th until January 16^th at the city administrative offices and there is a $25 filing fee. After approving the bills, the board went into closed session. 

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will hold their regular meeting tonight beginning at 6:00 PM in the hospital library. Administrator Dennis Pryor will give the summary of operations and statistics report for October along with the nursing services, ancillary services and auxiliary reports. Pryor, in his reports, will also address the hospital activity calendar and legislative updates. Old business to be addressed will include the employee holiday dinner scheduled for Monday, December 4th at the Salem City Hall, the Joint Board of Directors and Medical Staff Dinner scheduled for Monday, December 11th, plus there will be a physician office building report update and also an update on the strategic planning meeting. New business to be discussed will be a MetLife Retirement Resolution and the 2007 Board meeting dates. The regular meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.
