The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Salem present, The Music & Magic of Christmas” Parade on Saturday, December 6th beginning at 5:30 pm. The parade route will run from the old fairgrounds at the corner of South Grand & Franklin to the Dent County Courthouse. Those wishing to participate in the parade will need to fill out an entry form and those forms are due back no later than Wednesday, November 26th. No ATV’s are allowed in the parade. Be sure and pick up a form, fill it out, and then return to 200 South Main or faxed to (573) 729-6741. Line up positions will be available on Thursday, December 4th. The 2014 Christmas Trees and Trains Exhibit will be held from November 24th through December 24th at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center located at 202 South Highway 19 in Salem. The exhibit will be open from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm Monday thru Saturday. The exhibit will also be open on Sunday, December 21st from 1:00 to 5:00 and will be open on Wednesday, December 24th from 9:00 am to 2:00 pm. Be sure and stop by on Saturday, December 13th or December 20th and visit with Santa in his workshop. An Open House and Silent Auction will be held on Sunday, November 23rd from 2:00 to 6:00 pm. The Missouri Department of Conservation (MDC) reports that hunters checked 91,460 deer during the opening weekend of the 2014 November Portion of Firearms Deer Season this past weekend. Top harvest counties for the opening weekend were Franklin with 1,839 deer checked, Howell with 1,793, and Callaway with 1,791. Last year's firearms opening weekend deer harvest was 61,446. Other recent prior-year harvest totals for firearms opening weekend were: 2012: 69,614; 2011: 89,728, 2010: 97,856, and 2009: 86,202. The Department of Conservation also reports that there were three deer-hunting incidents over the weekend with two being fatal. One fatality was in Ste. Genevieve County where a heater in a hunting blind exploded, killing the hunter. The second involved a fall from a tree stand in Crawford County. A third non-fatal incident involved a hunter in Phelps County shooting himself in the leg while loading his rifle.

The Salem Police Department has released their reports. On Saturday, November 8th at 1:06 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 25-year old male of Pilot Knob for driving while intoxicated. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. That night at 7:20, an officer was detailed to the Country Corner restaurant located on Fourth Street in reference to a theft. That investigation revealed that a 31-year old Salem female had stolen $191.31 cash. She was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court, and released. On Sunday, November 9th at 11:47 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation led to the arrest of a 32-year old Rolla female for stealing merchandise valued at $254. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Then at 2:08 that afternoon, an officer responded to Wal-Mart in reference to a shoplifter. The investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $113.29. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. That night at 9:39, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 800 block of North Washington in reference to an assault. That investigation revealed that a 19-year old Salem male had assaulted a 21-year old Salem female. He was arrested for 2nd degree domestic assault and felonious restraint. He was incarcerated pending the application for warrants. On Monday, November 10th at 8:50 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of North Young in reference to a theft. That investigation of the report revealed that someone took a Ruger 9 mm pistol valued at $400. That night at 8:05, an officer responded to a residence in the 500 block of West Center in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took items valued at $252.  Anyone with information regarding the thefts, which are still under investigation, is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released more of their reports. On Monday, November 10th at 2:38 in the early morning, the Sheriff's Office received a phone call regarding a vehicle being stolen on H Highway. The reporting party stated the vehicle was a White Ford Ranger with 'Ridge Runner' written on it. Deputies responded to the area and met with the owner who stated that he had followed the vehicle until the suspect stopped at a residence on county road 2533 and fled on foot. The Deputies made a sweep of the area and notified residents in the area of the incident. The vehicle was processed for evidence and later released to the owner. At 5:05 that evening, the Dent County Sheriff's Office was contacted in regards to a 15-year old female juvenile that had run away from her home located on County Road 3140. A Deputy responded and located the female walking down CR-3140. The juvenile was transported to the Dent County Sheriff's Office where she was released to her social worker. That night at 6:00, a woman came into the Sheriff's Office to report that someone had stolen a concrete vase from her husband's grave. The incident occurred some time in the month of May or later.  The grave is located in the Rock Ford Cemetery just past Boss. Anyone with any info regarding an incident is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241.

Coach Phillip McClintock announced the 2014 Salem Tiger Cross Country team awards at the SHS Sports Banquet. Taking home MVP was Hayden Major while the Coaches Award went to Ty Conley. Congrats Tigers!

Monataque Gill-Caesar scored 19 points to lead the Missouri Tigers to a 78-64 victory over the Oral Roberts Eagles in a non-conference bout at Mizzou Arena on Wednesday. Wes Clark added 14 points and nine assists while Johnathan Williams III finished with 10 points for the Tigers (2-1). Missouri outscored Oral Roberts in the paint, 22-12, and had a slight edge on the boards, 32-31. Missouri will play the number 2 team in the nation on Monday when they play the Arizona Wildcats as part of the 2014 EA Sports Maui Invitational. You can hear that game on KSMO starting at 3:30 on Monday.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Montreal tonight to face the Canadiens at the Bell Centre. The Blues are 12-5-1 on the year and have 25 points. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 6:00 tonight.

Funeral services for Jennifer Ousley of Rolla, age 35, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Vida. Memorials may be made to the Ousley Girls Education Fund.

Graveside services for Estelle (Pryor) Huizenga of Kansas City and formerly of Salem, age 96, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
