An accident happened Wednesday around 8:05 in the morning in Dent County on County Road 6040 about twelve miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1997 Ford Explorer driven by 46-year old Artie Odom of Licking, lost control of his vehicle, ran off the east side of the road and struck some trees. Odom suffered moderate injuries and was transported to the Salem Memorial Hospital by ambulance. Odom was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The vehicle was totaled and removed by the owner.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their regular meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 pm. After the approval of the minutes from the October 23^rd meeting, Administrator Dennis Pryor will give an auxiliary report, the hospital activity calendar and legislative updates. Director of Nursing Carol Lacy will then the summary of operations and statistics for October along with the nursing services and ancillary service report, followed by the Chief of Staff report. In old business, there will be a physician office building report, a strategic planning update, an update on the State-wide hospital employee health insurance consortium, an annual bylaw review and the Board will set the Joint Board of Directors/Medical Staff dinner for Thursday, December 11^th at the Holiday Inn Express and the employee holiday dinner for Friday, December 12^th at the Salem City Hall Auditorium. In new business, the Board will discuss hospital purchases, the MHA Board of Trustees, the election filing that begins December 16^th and run through January 20^th as well as the employee health insurance. The Board may then vote to go into closed session. The regular meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.  

The Salem R-80 Board of Education will conduct their regular monthly meeting tonight at the district administrative offices boardroom beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the consent agenda, Superintendent Steve Bryant will address the Parent-Teacher conferences, the Professional Development Day and give a CEE update. In new business, the Board will address a curriculum, instruction and assessment (CIA) of the lessons of the month from all four buildings. There will program evaluations on the library/media centers, special education, parent education and federal programs. The Board will appoint a Salem R-80 School Foundation secretary/BOE liaison, set the Board election filing dates and there will be a selection of the MSBA Belcher Scholarship recipient. The Board will then adjourn and go into Executive Session for the purpose of discussing personnel and discipline. The regular meeting of the Salem R-80 Board of Education is open to the public.

Project Graduation 2009 will be selling Sara lee pies Friday starting at 3:30 and Saturday starting at 9:00 at Wal-Mart. All proceeds raised go toward Project Graduation.

Mark Twain National Forest will increase ATV and off-road motorcycle trail use fees at its two motorized trails at Sutton’s Bluff in Reynolds County effective January 1, 2009. The daily permit will increase from $5.00 to $7.00.The annual pass will increase from $35.00 to $45.00.  The 2009 annual passes will be available starting November 22^nd. This is the first increase in motorized trail fees since 1997. Due to public feedback, the fee increases were scaled back. The original proposal was for a $10.00 daily fee and $65.00 annual fee. The fee changes were reviewed and approved by a Regional Recreation Advisory Committee and the Regional Forester in Milwaukee, who oversees Mark Twain National Forest management. Maintenance of the 103 total miles of motorized trails costs between $2,500 and $15,000 per mile. Fees for mountain bike use of these trails remains at $3 a day and $20 a year.

The 2008 Fall Athletic Banquet to recognize all varsity and junior varsity football, volleyball, softball, and cross-country participants, and the cheerleaders, as well as all their parents, will be held on tonightat the Salem High School Cafeteria beginning at 6:30 pm.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers will face Xavier today at noon in the Puerto Rico Tournament. Missouri is 2-0 on the year. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio. Missouri will play Fairfield or Virginia Tech Friday at a time to be determined after today’s game.

The Boston Red Sox have traded outfielder Coco Crisp to the Kansas City Royals for right-handed reliever Ramon Ramirez. The 29-year-old Crisp hit .283 last season with seven home runs, 41 RBI and 55 runs scored. His value, though, is more in the field than at the plate, but he became expendable with the emergence of Jacoby Ellsbury. In three seasons with the Red Sox, Crisp hit .271 with 21 homers and 137 RBI. Ramirez, meanwhile, appeared in 71 games for the Royals last season and was 3-2 with a save and a 2.64 earned run average.

The St. Louis Cardinals have purchased the contracts of shortstop Tyler Greene and pitcher Matt Scherer from Memphis (PCL). They have also agreed to terms on a minor league contract with pitcher Ian Ostlund.

The Kansas City Chiefs have promoted running back Jackie Battle from the practice squad to the roster and added defensive tackle Antwon Burton to the practice squad. The Chiefs also signed linebacker Curtis Gatewood and defensive end Andy Studebaker to two-year contracts.
