The Dent County Commissioners met for the regular meeting Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles, County Clerk Angie Curley and Collector Dennis Medlock were all at the MAC conference. In the road report, Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading was going on west of town on Dent County Roads 240 and 241. He also reported that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 501 and 517. Simpson said that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 541 and 542 and that the rest of the District 1 workers were at the rock crushing plant. Commissioner J.J Tune reported that a worker would be sorting rocks at the crushing plant while grading would be done on Dent County Roads 227, 233 and 616. Commissioner Simpson reported that the courthouse would be closed on Thanksgiving, and that he would not be at the meeting on Monday as he would be in Reynolds County on the meeting concerning the grant for Bunker. At the last meeting, Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that the state auditors would be in Dent County for the 2010 for audit procedures. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday, November 26
th at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
The Salem Board of Aldermen held their regular meeting Monday evening at the city hall council chambers. At the meeting, the board heard from Mike Perry from Sullivan Publications about the codification of the ordinances. He says that they would go through the ordinances item by item as a group, then look at the changes that occur to the ordinances locally as well as changes necessitated by state laws. After this is done, Perry said that they look for internal conflicts or contradictions in the ordinances before the ordinances are reviewed for typographical errors. The process would take about 12 to 18 months and would cost the city about $13,000 for approximately 650 pages. A down payment of $2,000 would be needed to begin the process with $7,500 being due in the next 4 to 6 months, and the final $3,750 in 8 to 10 months. No action was taken by the board on this matter. Gary Penrod from Insituform Technologies USA, Inc. then discussed trenchless sewer lines as the product they have uses the old sewer line as a form after it is cleaned out and any roots or debris is removed. The system basically creates a PVC pipe inside the old clay or concrete pipe through a pre-cut sleeve and resin that is inserted from one man hole to another, then heated until it solidifies. After it hardens, the tributaries to the line are cut out by the use of a computerized saw that includes a camera. Penrod says that the longer the run, the less per foot the cost. He says that in most cases, this method will save money over the open cut replacement. The board again took no action. After the consent agenda, the board approved to draw up an ordinance for the vacating of the alley on Grover’s addition, Block A. Alderman Jim McDaniels asked about the soccer fields and the mayor said he is waiting on written bid from the firm of Schafer, Klein and Waller for plans for the soccer park. McDaniels says that the backstops at the Al Brown Field are in need of repair as they are falling apart, and he says the parking area on the north side needs to be extended toward Franklin to allow for more parking. Economic Development Director Sharon Tubbs reported that the IDA building in the Masters Industrial Park is now completed and the Rightway Homes work crews are beginning to move in. She says that they have applied for tax abatements and incentives through the Enhanced Enterprise Zone. Mayor Brown reported that the bottle rocket water tower is being painted and it should be finished by Wednesday. He says that work continues on the sewer line on Highway 32-72 West, and the city-wide scrap sale will be held on Saturday, December 1st. Brown says the city will hold a paint recycling day on Saturday from 9:00 to 1:00 and they will accept the “slick” magazines as well. The mayor said that he is waiting on the assessor to get him addresses so that he can start sending out letters to the residences on Highway 72 from Highway 32 to Dent County Road 321 concerning annexation. Once the letters have been sent, a public meeting will be held to hear concerns from the citizens. The mayor said that MoDOT says that Salem has $74,965 in the Surface Transportation Program and that can be used for the one–lane Second Street bridge. Brown also wanted to remind everyone that the Parade of Lights would be held December 1st at 5:50 from the old fairgrounds to the courthouse square. He asked Salem Police Chief Clifford Jadwin to make sure that downtown was closed off to traffic for the parade. The board then approved Bill #3111 that replaces certain provisions of Chapter 3 of the code of ordinances that related to the airport board and provides for new provisions. The mayor will now have to submit names to the alderman for the Airport Advisory Board for them to approve and that will be on the agenda at the next meeting. The alderman agreed to hold an election for an east ward alderman, west ward alderman and mayor on April 8th with filings starting on December 18th and lasting until January 22nd. There is a $25 filing fee that is required. The board approved leaving the salaries alone for the next alderman elected at $100 per meeting and the mayor at $550 per month plus approved expenses. After the bills were paid, the meeting was adjourned.

Hannah Kettner scored 18 points to lead the Salem Tigers past the Viburnum Lady Blues Jays Monday night at the Salem High School Gym, 56-28. Natalie Howard netted 11 and Shawna Ruben added 10 more as the Tigers won their first game of the year. Paige Mayfield scored 10 for the Lady Blue Jays. Salem will be off until they face Bradleyville in the Cabool Tournament on December 3rd at 8:30.
The Salem Boys Basketball Tigers will host Steelville tonight at 6:00 with the JV contest starting things out with the varsity game to follow. You can hear the varsity game on KSMO.
Paul Kariya had a goal and assist to keep the St. Louis Blues on the winning track, with a 2-1 win over the Nashville Predators at the Scottrade Center. Brad Boyes added the second goal, his team-leading 12th of the season, as the Blues won their fourth game in a row. Manny Legace stopped 24 shots to help St. Louis beat Nashville for the second game in a row. This is St. Louis' second four-game winning streak of the season. The Blues will travel to Detroit on Wednesday.
Drew Neitzel scored 21 points, including two clutch free throws with 2.4 seconds left, and the 10th-ranked Michigan State Spartans survived the Missouri Tigers, 86-83, in the semifinals of the CBE Classic. Stefhon Hannah led Missouri (3-1) with 20 points. DeMarre Carroll scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds, and Marshall Brown scored 12 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Keon Lawrence finished with 12 points and six boards for the Tigers, who will play Maryland in the consolation game tonight.
New York Yankees third baseman Alex Rodriguez has been named the American League's Most Valuable Player for a league-record tying third time, as voted on by the Baseball Writers' Association of America.

Funeral services for Fern Hedrick of Steelville, age 87, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Chapel in Steelville. Visitation will be Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.
Funeral services are incomplete at this time for Evelyn Hilgedick, of Springfield, formerly of Salem, age 88. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
