The Salem R-80 Board of Education heard the audit report for the last school year from their auditor, Matt James. He stated that the school is in good shape with a fund balance total of 6.2 million dollars. For the last year, total expenditures for the school came in at $11,790,000 while total revenues from all sources ended up being $12,279,000 for an increase in Net Assets of $489,000. James stated that for the school year 2010-2011, the school had an increase in Net Assets of $608,000. He said that this past year, the audit shows that federal monies and grants decreased about $834,000 going from $1,116,000 in the 2010-2011 school year to $249,000 in the 2011-2012 school year; but he did say that the district did receive an increase of $440,000 from the foundation formula from the state this past year. James said that right now the district has 2.875 million dollars set aside for capital projects. He added that he checks assessed valuations for the county each year and that the assessed valuation went from 64 million last year to 65 million dollars this year which generates about $34,000 more dollars for the district. James also mentioned that the district had very little debt as they have a lease on two busses that totals just $67,000 that will have to be paid off in two years. He did mention that last year the board cancelled their Salem School Foundation and that created a change in the accounting of how the fund balance is treated, but the money is still available for a foundation. James also reported that the Salem Transportation Department drove around 115,900 miles this past school year and that was down from just over 116,000 miles the year before. He went on to say that the audit opinion on the district is clean and he stated that it was a pleasure to work with the staff at the administration office during the audit.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their regular meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 7:00. After approval of the agenda in bids, the City of Salem requested bids for 4,500 gallons of LL100 aviation fuel and the City had also requested proposals for the demolition and removal of a burned out house, including any and all concrete, brick and wood, located at 1201 South MacArthur. In new and miscellaneous business, City of Salem Police Chief Keith Steelman is requesting permission to destroy some old records from 1997 thru 2006 and he would also like to open up a discussion on HCS HB 1171 with the Board and the City Attorney. The Board will then vote to go into Closed Session for the purpose of discussing personnel. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

An accident occurred at 8:15 Saturday night in Dent County on Highway 72 at the intersection of Route FF. According to the highway patrol report, a 2006 Chrysler Town and Country driven by Abigail Liboa of Salem struck the left side of a 2009 Dodge Calibre driven by 33-year old Dustin Cooper of Waynesville. The accident was due to Liboa failing to yield while making a left turn. Liboa suffered minor injuries and sought her own treatment. An occupant in the Dodge, 33-year old Brigette Cosper of Waynesville, suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. Both vehicles sustained extensive damage and were removed by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

Alex Oriakhi scored 17 points and added 10 rebounds as the 14th-ranked Missouri Tigers took a 74-54 win over Nicholls State on Friday. Earnest Ross had 16 points and five boards, Keion Bell added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Laurence Bowers gave 12 points for the Tigers (3-0), who have won all of their games this season by double-digits. Missouri will play Stanford on Thursday in the Bahamas in the first round of the Battle for Atlantis Tournament.

Ryan Nassib threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Alec Lemon with 20 seconds left in regulation to give the Syracuse Orange a stunning 31-27 win over the Missouri Tigers at Faurot Field. James Franklin threw for 279 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 17-of-23 pass attempts for Missouri (5-6). Kendial Lawrence rushed for 119 yards and scored a touchdown while three different player finished with at least 70 yards through the air. Mizzou will play Texas A&M Saturday in their regular season finale.

Bilal Powell had the most effective day of his career, rushing for two touchdowns and helping the New York Jets to a much-needed 27-13 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday. Sam Bradford struggled to get the Rams' offense in rhythm most of the day. Although he tossed a pair of touchdowns to Brandon Gibson, he completed just 23-of-44 passes for 170 yards, threw an interception and lost a fumble in the defeat. The Rams will play Arizona on Sunday.

Andy Dalton threw a pair of touchdown passes and rushed for another score on Sunday, as the Cincinnati Bengals downed the Kansas City Chiefs, 28-6, at Arrowhead Stadium. Matt Cassel completed half of his 16 passes for 93 yards in the first half before being replaced by Brady Quinn to start the third quarter. Quinn didn't fare much better, as he finished 9-of-14 for 95 yards for the Chiefs (1-9), who have lost their last seven games. Jamaal Charles carried the ball 17 times for 87 yards in the setback. The Chiefs will play the Broncos on Sunday.

Funeral services for Valerie Dee Raulston of Salem, age 75, will be held Wednesday evening at 6:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 2:00 until service time. Memorials may be given to the American Heart Association.

No services will be held for Robert Fleeman of Salem, formerly of St. Louis, who passed away Friday at the age of 68 years. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
