The Dent County Commission met Thursday morning for their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, Dent County Assessor Brenda Bell reported to the commission that after the rain Wednesday night, there was still a slight odor in her office, but not as bad as before. Some plumbing work had been done under the floor in her office last month to correct the problem. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that since about a half an inch of rain was received that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 4180, 5070, 5510 and 6240. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson stated that grading was going to be done on Dent County Road 3270. Both said they had workers helping with the improvements at the county road and bridge building along with community service workers. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended a Central Region Workforce Investment Caucus on Wednesday. They serve about 20,000 people a month, and this summer they provided the Youth Worker Program through ARRA that provided about $1.6 million in funds to the youth in the Central Region. The commission then addressed the health insurance for 2011 for the county workers. The commission decided to increase the amount of the deductible for the policy that the county would provide from $2,500 to $3,500. That would save $18,216 in 2011 and is $9,384 less than the total amount of premiums paid this past year as the new premium comes to $333 per month per employee for 2011, down from $350 per month per employee paid this year. The county agreed that they would pay $2,000 of the deductible if needed by an employee. County workers would also have the option of adding their families to their policy at an additional cost, or lowering the deductible to either $1,500 or $2,500 by paying the additional costs associated with those policies. The commissioners then heard from Alice Ripley with ETIS concerning electronic ankle tracing devices for prisoners for as low as $8.25 for each defender. These devices use real time GPS tracking and are programmable for each offender. She would get back with the county in a couple of weeks to see if they are interested. Jo Ann Wells from the Tourism Tax Committee came in to update the commission on the funds after the budget adjustment. At the last meeting, Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams came in with a warrant for a transfer of $2,325.67 from the 9-1-1 fund to the LEST fund. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday, November 29^th at the Dent County Courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report for the month of October. During the month the Dent County Sheriff’s Department served 251 papers. For the month of October, there were 29 reports of stealing, six reports of property damage, five burglaries were reported, two reports of assault, two drug investigations were conducted, there was a death investigation, one report of domestic violence, one report of sex offenses, one DWI and ten other reports were filed. There was a daily average of 34 prisoners in the Dent County Jail during the month of October.

The Salem Board of Alderman held a special meeting Thursday evening in the City Hall Council Chambers to hear comments from area sawmill owners and operators concerning the proposed bio-mass wood requirements to produce electricity. Local saw mill operators gave statistics about the amount of lumber that is available privately in Dent County and their opinions on how bio-mass would affect their industry within in the Dent County area. It was also discussed that bio-mass wood supplies would extend beyond just the borders of Dent County and that there would be many suppliers from surrounding areas willing to be a part of the supply process. A public forum will be held Monday, November 29^th at the Salem City Hall Auditorium at 6:30 for those who have questions and concerns about bio-mass. Laurence Bowers finished with nine points and 10 rebounds and Marcus Denmon added nine points as the 15th-ranked Missouri Tigers edged the Western Illinois Leathernecks, 66-61, is a close battle at Mizzou Arena. Steve Moore and Phil Pressey also added nine points for the Tigers (1-0). The Tigers are ranked in the preseason for the first time since 2003-04. The Tigers will face North Florida Saturday afternoon at 3:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio

The 15th-ranked Missouri Tigers travel to Ames this Saturday for a Big 12 Conference clash with the Iowa State Cyclones. Mizzou is 8-2 on the year and 3-2 in the Big 12. The pre-game show gets underway immediately following the Mizzou basketball game on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Blues will host the Ottawa Senators tonight starting at 7:00 at the Scottrade Center. The Blues are mired in a five-game losing streak coming on the heals of a seven-game winning streak. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Mizzou Baseball Head Coach Tim Jamieson has been named the manager of the 2011 Collegiate National Team, as announced by USA Baseball on Thursday. Jamieson will enter his 17th season as the head coach of the Missouri Tigers in 2011. He is the second-winningest coach in Mizzou baseball history and will begin the 2011 campaign with a career record of 544-382-2.
