The Dent County Commissioners met Monday morning at the courthouse. District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell stated maintenance is being done on Grader #33 and general shop maintenance is also being done. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported his crew is also performing shop maintenance. He stated some work crews would be checking for slick spots from the snow on the roads and hills in the western and northern parts of the county. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported he and Commissioners Larson and Purcell attended the MRPC Annual Awards Dinner and Banquet at Camp Mahaska last Thursday. He said the program went very well and wanted to congratulate Chris Mathis on his award for being recognized for his volunteer work at the Farmers Market. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected officials will be held on Wednesday, December 31st at 1:00 in the upstairs courtroom of the Dent County Courthouse. The event is open to the public. At the last meeting, the commission signed the transfer of $5,000 from the Inmate Security Fund to the Law Enforcement Sales Tax Fund per the budget. A total of $10,000 was approved for transfer in 2014. Also, Sheriff Rick Stallings came in to ask the commission for a letter of support to get a collection box from CVS Pharmacy to store unused or out of date prescriptions. The commissioners signed the letter of support. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday at 9:00 at the courthouse and it is open to the public.

The City of Salem Board of Aldermen have called a special meeting for today at 1:15 in the City Hall Council Chambers to consider invoices over $3,000.00 and also to discuss and approve Bill #3284 that would create an ordinance to approve a settlement agreement with CenturyLink for an estimated back tax payment of $86,785.84. The board will then adjourn. The meeting this afternoon is open to the public.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released a number of reports. On Sunday, November 9th at 9:00 pm, the sheriff's office received a call from a woman stating that a male subject identified as Mr. Michael Mathis had assaulted her. The incident occurred on Teddy Avenue in Bunker. The victim and Mr. Mathis had become involved in a verbal altercation, which then turned physical when Mr. Mathis pushed the victim. Mr. Mathis was issued a citation for Domestic Assault in the 3rd Degree and was released. On Tuesday, November 11th at approximately 10:34 pm, the sheriff's office received a call from a woman on Dent County Road 2050 saying a male subject named Josh Heimburger is threatening her. Deputy’s made contact with a male matching the suspect’s description, standing on the porch of the residence. After the incident was further investigated, Mr. Heimburger was later arrested for aggravated stalking and transported to the Dent County Sheriff’s Office for further processing. Mr. Heimburger is currently being held on $5,000 cash only bond with no contact, direct or indirect, with the victim. On Friday, November 14th at 5:20 pm, deputies were dispatched to Route WW in reference to a physical domestic in progress. Deputies arrived on the scene and determined that two female subjects had been assaulted by Mr. Edward McElfresh. Mrs. McElfresh advised the sheriff’s office dispatcher that prior to deputies’ arrival, Mr. McElfresh had left the residence driving a green Dodge pickup. Deputies attempted to locate Mr. McElfresh at different locations that evening with no success. On Saturday, November 15th, at 4:30 pm, Mr. McElfresh arrived at the sheriff’s office requesting to speak with Deputy Robbins. Deputy Robbins returned to the office and met with Mr. McElfresh.  After a further investigation of the November 14th incident, Mr. McElfresh was subsequently arrested and placed into the Dent County Jail pending the issuance of warrants for domestic assault. Anyone with any information regarding an incident is asked to contact the Dent County Sheriff’s Department by calling 729-3241. This information is just an accusation, and is not evidence of guilt.  Evidence in support of any charges must be presented before a court of competent jurisdiction whose duty is to determine guilt or innocence.

The Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors will conduct their monthly meeting tonight in the hospital library beginning at 6:00 pm. After approval of the agenda and the minutes from the October 21st meeting will be the summary of operations and statistics reports for October, followed by the nursing and ancillary service as well as call light repots. Hospital Administrator Dennis Pryor will then update the Board with an auxiliary report, hospital activity calendar and legislative issues followed by the Chief of Staff report. In old business the Board will discuss the 2011 strategic planning goals update, the Community Health Needs Assessment, the Ozark Independent Health Alliance (OIHA) and there will be an annual bylaw review. Then during new business the Board will address the Joint Board of Directors/Medical Staff meeting to be held December 16th in the hospital library, the election filing for District #2 that begins December 16th and runs through January 20, 2015 and purchases made for the hospital. The monthly meeting of the Salem Memorial District Hospital Board of Directors is open to the public.

All conference awards have been handed out for fall sports and Salem was well represented. For football, Zane Kyser, Eli Floyd, and Max Knaack were named 1st Team All SCA. 2nd Team All SCA consisted of Paul McClain and Jon Artz while Zac Eplin was named to the All SCA Honorable Mention team. The Salem Lady Tiger Volleyball team had Breanna Piatt named All SCA Honorable Mention. The Salem Lady Softball Tigers saw Savannah Hanning, Shelby Carr, Kirsten Strebe, and Camryn Pryor named 1st Team All SCA. Kari Hatridge and Payton Curley were named 2nd Team All SCA while Bekah Kirker was named to the All SCA Honorable Mention Team. Hanning was also named the SCA Player of the Year while Coach Stanley Crum was named SCA Coach of the Year. Hanning, Carr, Curley, and Pryor were also named to the All District Team.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Boston tonight to face the Bruins at TD Garden. The Blues are 12-4-1 on the year and have 25 points. You can hear the game on KSMO starting at 5:30.

The St. Louis Cardinals have announced they have agreed with the Atlanta Braves on a four-player trade that will bring outfielder Jason Heyward and right-handed pitcher Jordan Walden to the Cardinals in exchange for pitchers Shelby Miller and Tyrell Jenkins.

Funeral services for Ronnie Martin of Cherryville, age 57, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Martin-Trask Cemetery in Cherryville.

Funeral services for Jennifer Ousley of Rolla, age 35, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Vida. Memorials may be made to the Ousley Girls Education Fund.

Graveside services for Estelle (Pryor) Huizenga of Kansas City and formerly of Salem, age 96, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.
