The Dent County Commissioners held their meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5170, 5180, 5610 and 5620. Purcell reported that he attended a Meramac Regional Development Corporation meeting where the topic of discussion of a micro-enterprise fund used for loans is available to businesses with five of fewer employees. District Two Commissioner Gary Larson reported that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 3290 and 5225. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that the service company would be in Salem Thursday afternoon to service the standby emergency generator at the Oak Grove Baptist Church. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that work is still being performed on the 2012 budget and preparations are underway for the 2012 Presidential Primary that will be held in February. Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock stopped by to inform the Commission that the Dent County Collectors office would be open on Saturday, December 3rd and Saturday, December 31st from 8:00 am until noon. The Collectors office will have extended hours Tuesday, December 27th through Friday, December 30th for those wishing to pay their taxes before the deadline of December 31st. The Dent County Courthouse will be closed in observance of Thanksgiving on Thursday, November 24th and Friday, November 25th. The Courthouse will be close at noon on Friday, December 23rd in observance of Christmas Eve and will be closed on Monday, December 26th in observance of Christmas Day. The Courthouse will also be closed on Monday, January 2, 2012 in observance of New Years Day. Bids were opened at 10:00 for the lease purchase agreements for the two new John Deere graders. Bids ranged from 3.15% to 4.49%. The Commission voted and agreed to award the bid to the Bank of Salem at 3.15%. Clint Massey, Juvenile Officer for the 42nd Circuit Court and Prosecuting Attorney Syd Pearson came in requesting permission to modify the courtroom with polycom equipment and the Commission agreed. At the last meeting, Tom Vanhatten and Kirk Faigle came in to update the Commission on the Road Rally be held February 24th and 25th of 2012. The next meeting of the Dent County Commission will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.

An accident occurred at 7:07 Wednesday night in Dent County on Highway H about six miles west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1991 Ford Taurus driven by 20-year old Andrew Hunter of Salem crossed the center line, traveled off the left side of the roadway, struck a fence and several trees, and came to rest off the road. Hunter suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford sustained extensive damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

An accident occurred at 7:35 Thursday morning in Crawford County on Route M about eight miles south of Steelville. According to the highway patrol report, a 1990 Isuzu driven by 16-year old Mariah Vernon of Cook Station ran off the right side of the roadway, overcorrected, ran off the left side of the roadway, and overturned. Vernon was partially ejected and suffered serious injuries. She was taken Air Evac to the children’s hospital in St. Louis. Vernon was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Isuzu was totaled and removed from the scene by Miles and Son’s Towing of Steelville.

The Dent County Arts and Crafts Guild will have their fall show this Saturday from 9:00 until 4:00 at the Salem City Hall Auditorium. There is no charge to attend and everyone is welcome to come in and browse. All items on display are hand crafted. Lunch will be available from OJ during the show.

This Saturday night the Salem Tigers and Lady Tigers will be holding their annual Blue and White night. Teams participating are the junior high boys team, the 9th Grade boys team, the JV boys and girls teams, and the varsity boys and girls teams. Bring a sports drink or bottle of water for admission and come for a great night of basketball and a sneak preview of the Salem Tigers and the Salem Lady Tigers. The Salem Tiger Benchwarmers Booster Club will kick off the night with a chili supper and sweet treat sale at 5:30, followed by the introductions of this year’s teams and inter-squad scrimmages at 6:00. Salem Tiger merchandise and Booster Club T-Shirts will be sold throughout the night. 

Marcus Denmon scored a game-high 22 points with seven rebounds as 24th-ranked Missouri routed Niagara 83-52 Thursday night. Kim English added 14 points, while Matt Pressey, Ricardo Ratliffe and Michael Dixon each scored 12 for Missouri (3-0). Missouri will play Notre Dame Monday night.

David Backes scored twice and Jaroslav Halak made 20 saves as the St. Louis Blues took a 4-1 win over the Florida Panthers. Chris Porter and Kris Russell each had a goal for the Blues, who improved to 4-0-1 under new head coach Ken Hitchcock, the best start for a new coach in team history. The Blues will be in Minnesota Saturday night to face the Wild at 7:00, and you’ll be able to hear it on KSMO Radio.

The Missouri Tiger football team will host Texas Tech Saturday, but will be without head coach Gary Pinkel. Pinkel will be serving a one game suspension for a drunk driving arrest Wednesday night. Missouri is 5-5 on the year and you can hear this game on KSMO starting with the pre-game show at 1:30.

The St. Louis Rams will be hosting the division rival Seattle Seahawks Sunday at 3:05. The Rams are 2-7 on the year.

New St. Louis Cardinals manager Mike Matheny announced his coaching staff for the 2012 season on Wednesday. Pitching coach Dave Duncan, third base coach Jose Oquendo, hitting coach Mark McGwire and bullpen coach Derek Lilliquist will return in their same positions to guide the defending World Series champions. Mike Aldrete was promoted to bench coach, while Chris Maloney, former Memphis Redbirds' manager, takes over as first base coach.

A Memorial services for Anita L. Hanes of St. James, age 53, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until service time.

A Memorial with visitation services for Betty Brasure of Bland, age 78, will be held today from 5:00 to 8:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Memorials are suggested to the Brasure family.

Funeral Mass for Lester Thomas Adamick of Salem, age 79, will be Saturday at 11:00 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Visitation will be today from 5:00 to 8:00 with a Rosary Service at 6:00 tonight at the James & Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery Mausoleum.

Funeral Services for Myra Jane Prugh of Salem, age 54, will be Saturday at 2:00 at the Salem Chapel of the James & Gahr Mortuary. Visitations will be at 1:00 until the service time at 2:00 in the chapel. Internment will be in the West Fork/Surterfield in Reynolds County.

Funeral Services for Dennis Ray Martin of Viburnum, age 69, will be Saturday at 1:00 in the Wilson Mortuary Viburnum Chapel. Visitation will be Saturday from 10:00 am to 1:00. Internment will follow at The Boss Cemetery.

Funeral services for Roger W. Parker of Bunker, age 71, will be held Sunday at 4:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitation will be from 1:00 until service time Sunday.

Funeral services for Rickey D. (Tucker) Mowery of Salem, age 41, will be held Monday at 1:00 at the Salem Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 2:00 until 6:00 Sunday. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.
