An accident occurred at 9:30 Tuesday morning in Iron County on Route N about six miles north of Belleview. According to the highway patrol report, a 2001 Chrysler driven by 46-year old Howard Mathis of Salem, slid off the left side of the roadway and overturned. Mathis and an occupant in the vehicle, 27-year old Amanda Copeland of Bunker, suffered moderate injuries and were taken by ambulance to the Iron County Hospital in Pilot Knob. They were not wearing seat restraints at the time of the accident. The Chrysler was totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by Adam’s Custom Auto Arcadia.

The City of Salem Board of Alderman Monday night in open session accepted the recommendation of the Salem Planning and Zoning Board to deny a Conditional Use Permit to provide counseling and medical message therapy at #1 South MacArthur owned by the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. They also denied the request to rezone the property at #1 South MacArthur from Residential to Commercial.

The Dent County Commissioners regular meeting was held Monday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report, both districts report that even with the light rain Friday night, the roads are still too dry to do any grading. Workers from both districts will be helping with the drywall installation and other improvements at the new addition to the Road and Bridge Department building. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles wanted to remind the citizens that conditions in the county are still very dry and to please refrain from any type of outdoor burning. Skiles said that there would not be a commissioner meeting on Monday, November 22nd due to a meeting at the Lake of the Ozarks. He also said that the courthouse would be closed on Thanksgiving Day and the following Friday. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she is currently working on the 2011 budget. Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock told the commission that his office would be open on Saturday, December 4th and 18th from 9:00 until noon. He said the Collector’s office would also be open an extra hour until 5:30 from December 27th through December 31st for those who want to pay their taxes after work. Remember, personal property and real estate taxes need to be paid by or be postmarked by December 31st to avoid paying penalties and interest. If you need more information about paying your taxes, please call the Collector’s Office at 729-3911. The next regular meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the Dent County Courthouse and that meeting is open to the public.

An accident occurred on Monday, November 8th at 11:45 in the morning at the intersection of Highway 32 and Wines Street in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 1998 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Danielle Roos of Salem was attempting to turn left onto the highway with her vision obscured by moving vehicles. Contact was made with a 1994 Ford Mustang driven by Jessica Bryant of Rolla, who was traveling on the inside lane. Bryant and two occupants were transported by ambulance to the Salem Memorial District Hospital for treatment. The Chevrolet Tahoe sustained minor damage. The Ford Mustang sustained moderate damage and was removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing.

The All-SCA Teams have been announced and the Salem Football Tigers had eleven players selected. The players to make the All-SCA Defensive First Team included junior Carson Sheppard on the defensive line; junior Justin Moore as a linebacker; junior Ben Adams at defensive back; and senior Kevin Presley as the punter. Senior Lane Howard was the only Salem player named to the All-SCA Offensive First Team as an offensive lineman. Named to the All-SCA Second Defensive Team were junior Sammy Ibrahim at linebacker and senior Ryan Smith at defensive back. Junior Dylan Burke was the only Tiger named to the All-SCA Offensive Second Team as an offensive lineman. Named to the All-SCA Honorable Mention team were senior Nathan Arnett and junior Tyler Wofford on the defensive line, and junior Johnnie Boyd at running back. Congratulations to these Tigers on their achievement!

The Baseball Writers' Association of America named Roy Halladay of the Philadelphia Phillies the National League Cy Young Award winner on Tuesday, making him the fifth pitcher to win a Cy Young in each league. Adam Wainwright of the Cardinals received 28 second-place votes to finish second.

The St. Louis Blues will be at Detroit tonight to face the Red Wings starting at 6:00. The Blues have lost four straight games. You can hear the game tonight on KSMO Radio.

The St. Louis Cardinals have re-signed pitcher Jake Westbrook on Tuesday to a two-year contract with a mutual option for 2013. Terms were not released, but a report in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch said the annual value of the right-hander's contract could be slightly higher than $9 million. Westbrook made 12 starts for the Cardinals in 2010 after joining the team from Cleveland in a mid-season trade that also involved San Diego. He had a 4-4 record and 3.48 ERA with St. Louis.

Funeral services for William “Bill” Oscar Hogan of Salem, age 55, will be held today at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mona Eaton of St. Peters, MO, formerly of Steelville, age 80, will be held today at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 9:00 in the morning until service time. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Lenora Barnes of St. James, age 77, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the St. James Chapel of James and Gahr Mortuary. Visitation will be held from 11:00 Thursday morning until service time. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Funeral services for Charles Haynes Scott of Viburnum, age 80, will be held Friday at 1:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Viburnum. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Sellers Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Dent County Animal Shelter.

Funeral services for Mabel Avaline Stagner of Salem, age 89, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be held Friday night from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Oak Grove Baptist Church.

A Celebration of Life service for Sandra Kay Wilkerson of Salem, age 62, will be held Saturday, November 20th at 5:30 pm at the Spring Creek Golf Club. Memorials may be made to the Spring Creek Golf Club. All the arrangements are under the direction of the Wilson Mortuary in Salem.

Memorial services for Bernice E. Turner of Salem, age 88, will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be from 1:30 until service time on Sunday. Interment will be in the New Harmony Cemetery at a later date.
