he City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their regular meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers beginning at 7:00 pm. After approval of the consent agenda, the board will take care of unfinished business. At the last meeting, the Board postponed any decision on the bids to repair the 2004 Ford Explorer that was hit while parked at the Police Station, and since the bids were not identical, the Board wanted clarification of the bids before they made a decision. Alderman Jim Jackson, Kenneth Nash, Bill Riley and Jim Mc Daniels will discuss items involving the City of Salem. Alderman Riley would also like an update on the annexation of Roberts Street, and would like to discuss stiffer penalties that need to be set for vandalism of the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Alderman McDaniels would like an update on asphalting, the storm-water and sidewalk projects, and the curb and gutter projects. Mayor Gary Brown will then give his comments on various items involving the City. In the introduction and reading of bills, Bill #3144 will be discussed. This ordinance is needed to correct the annexation of property annexed for Ben and Debbie Owens. The description that was given by the Owens was incorrect and the actual description was for property owned by Pat Dalton. The Owens property has since been corrected (now owned by Wegmann) but this ordinance is needed to correct the Code Book and de-annex the Dalton property. In new and miscellaneous business, Chief Jadwin attended the annual Laggers Conference and wishes to discuss with the Board a new plan for consideration that was presented at that conference. The Board will also address changing the Code Book concerning the wording on the positions of City Clerk and City Treasurer to read the same as the other appointed officials. Currently the Clerk and Treasurer are to be appointed yearly. After approval of the bills presented by City Clerk Mary Happel, the Board may go into closed session. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson announced that her staff would visit with constituents throughout the 8th District at Congressional Connection stops. The Congressional Connection program gets staff out of the office and into the communities where they can have these types of meetings on a drop-in basis. The next stop in our area will be today from 3:00 to 4:00 at the Salem Area Chamber of Commerce.

The American Red Cross will hold a blood drive at the New Harmony Church Wednesday from 2:00 to 7:00. When you give blood, receive a Paula Deen inspired apron along with special recipes. For more information, call the church at 729-5991.

The 2008 Fall Athletic Banquet to recognize all varsity and junior varsity football, volleyball, softball, and cross-country participants, and the cheerleaders, as well as all their parents, will be held on Thursday, November 20th at the Salem High School Cafeteria beginning at 6:30 pm.

Shaun Hill threw for two touchdowns and ran for another score, and Frank Gore rushed for two more TDs, as the San Francisco 49ers crushed the St. Louis Rams, 35-16, at Candlestick Park to give interim head coach Mike Singletary his first triumph with the club. Marc Bulger was an 34-of-53 for 295 yards, a touchdown and two interceptions for the Rams (2-8), who have dropped four straight contests. Antonio Pittman gained 95 yards on 14 carries, while Donnie Avery grabbed a career-high nine passes for 93 yards. Dane Looker had a touchdown grab and Josh Brown made 3- of-4 field goal attempts.

Pierre Thomas racked up 144 total yards and a TD with 88 rushing and 56 receiving on four grabs as the New Orleans Saints survived a spirited effort from the Kansas City Chiefs with a 30-20 win at Arrowhead Stadium. Tyler Thigpen put together another encouraging performance despite the Chiefs' second consecutive close loss, hitting on 19-of-38 pass attempts for 235 yards with a pair of TD passes to Dwayne Bowe, who finished with seven grabs for 53 yards. Tony Gonzalez made five receptions for 39 yards before leaving with an undisclosed injury suffered during a third-quarter goal-line series for Kansas City (1-9), which has lost five straight and 18 of its last 19 dating back to last year.

Chase Daniel completed 32-of-40 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns, as 12th-ranked Missouri defeated Iowa State, 52-20, to clinch the Big 12 North title and a spot in the conference championship game.  Jeremy Maclin had eight catches for 103 yards and a touchdown, and Jimmy Jackson scored twice on the ground for Missouri (9-2, 5-2 Big 12), while Derrick Washington carried the ball 11 times for 128 yards and a pair of scores.

The Missouri Basketball Tigers started out the regular season on a strong note as they had little problem with Prairie View A&M Saturday winning 86-65. Missouri was led by Leo Lyons with 21 points followed by DeWayne Carroll with 19 points and Marcus Denmon with 15 points. Missouri will face Chattanooga tonight at 6:30 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Alex Kovalev scored the lone goal of the shootout and Andrei Kostitsyn had a goal and an assist in regulation as the Montreal Canadiens edged the St. Louis Blues, 3-2, at Scottrade Center. Steve Regier accounted for both St. Louis goals, the first two of his NHL career. The 24-year-old Regier, who was recalled from the team's American Hockey League affiliate in Peoria, was playing in only his 19th career NHL contest. His previous 18 games were with the New York Islanders. Manny Legace made 24 saves for the Blues, who have lost nine of their last 11 games. The Blues will play Anaheim Friday night.

The Kansas City Royals named Mike Arbuckle senior advisor to the general manager in scouting and player development on Friday, while retooling their winter roster. He comes to Kansas City fresh off a World Series championship with the Philadelphia Phillies where he most recently was assistant general manager. The Royals activated five players off the 60-day disabled list, including pitchers Luke Hochevar, Carlos Rosa, Ryan Braun and Luke Hudson along with outfielder Shane Costa. Hochevar, Rosa and Costa remained on the 40-man winter roster while Braun was placed on unconditional release waivers and Hudson was designated for assignment. Pitcher Josh Newman was also designated for assignment.
