According to an article in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the U.S. Drug Enforcement Agency, the Missouri Highway Patrol and the U.S. Attorney's Office filed a joint complaint in the Eastern District of Missouri on Monday, November 8^th, asking to seize the 350-acre Zoe Farm using the civil asset forfeiture law, alleging rampant drug dealing and drug use at events. In the complaint, officials stated that investigators spent four years monitoring and interacting with concertgoers on the farm. They witnessed drug use and completed open drug deals with people  during the events. Officials allege that the owner and event operators were aware of the activity and in their words "took no immediate action to prevent" the sale and use of cocaine, marijuana, LSD, ecstasy, mushrooms, opium and marijuana-laced food. The farm, called Camp Zoe, is located 150 miles southwest of St. Louis between Salem and Eminence in Shannon County, and hosts popular Grateful Dead festivals call Schwagstocks throughout the year, as well as other rallies and individual concerts. Camp Zoe used to be a popular summer camp for kids in the 1970’s and 80’s. In 2004, the property was purchased by Jimmy Tebeau, who was a member of the Grateful Dead Tribute Band called the Schwag. He opened the grounds to recreational camping and float trips and began hosting the festivals soon after the purchase. At this time, Tebeau has not been charged with a crime. Under the civil asset forfeiture law, Tebeau would not have to be charged for the court to approve the seizure of the property. The law that enables the federal government to take property that is relied upon by criminals as part of an illegal money-making enterprise. The complaint values the farm at $600,000. The farm remains in Tebeau's ownership pending the outcome of the case. Tebeau's lawyer is Dan Viets and he says the law is unfair and enables the government to bully innocent property owners and take land, money and homes nearly at will. Viets, who is representing his client pro bono, told the Post-Dispatch that Tebeau discovered last week that officials had cleaned out his bank account, yet he has not been served legal notice on that forfeiture.

The Salem Board of Aldermen held their regular meeting Monday evening at the city hall council chambers. The board heard from John Maledy concerning what he says was a hanger policy where if a person built their own hanger, then after ten years they would only have to pay tie-down fees instead of the regular rental fee. City Clerk Mary Happel could not find any such policy that was approved by the Board of Alderman. Alderman Jerry Randall recommended and the board approved to meet with the pilots in a workshop and address this policy as well as other fees as the city pays for insurance on the hangers as well as other expenses at the airport. The board approved the purchase of a 2003 Ford F-350 pickup from Maddox Motors in Bourbon for $10,800 for the sewer and water construction crew. After the consent agenda was approved, Mayor Gray Brown said that 829 people visited the TCRC in October and another 1,416 attended the fitness center. Brown said that the TCRC received a letter from the University of Missouri Extension stating that effective November 8, 2011, the University would no longer be a partner with the TCRC’s. Economic Development Director Sharon Tubbs, Mayor Brown and Alderman Randall are going to meet with the TCRC Director Ray Walden to discuss this situation. The City of Salem is a partner of the Salem TCRC. Brown said the street department has finished crack-sealing most of the snow routes, and that MODOT gave approval for the water tie-in at McArthur and Acuff. Brown said that some MS&T students would be meeting with city officials to discuss some projects like they did in 2008 on November 22^nd at 6:30 at the Salem TCRC. Brown said that the City Seniority Dinner will be held on December 3^rd and the Christmas parade will be held on December 4^th. The board approved holding the Municipal Election on April 5^th for the election of the West Ward Aldermanic Seat held by Brad Nash and the East Ward Aldermanic Seat held by Hadyn Powell. Filings dates will begin Tuesday, December 14^th at 8:00 and last until January 18^th at 5:00 at the City Clerk’s office. There is a $25 filing fee. The board also approved keeping the alderman’s pay at $100 per meeting for the elected officials. After the bills were approved, the board went into closed session.

John-Michael Liles picked up two goals and one assist as Colorado doubled up St. Louis, 6-3, at Pepsi Center. Alex Steen and Carlo Colaiacovo notched a goal and assist each for the Blues, who have lost a season-high four in a row. Brad Boyes also scored for the Blues. Jaroslav Halak surrendered a season-worst six goals on 23 shots in defeat, his third straight setback. The Blues play Detroit Wednesday night at 6:00.

Mizzou junior TE Michael Egnew has been named one of eight semi-finalists for the 2010 John Mackey Award. The award goes to the nation's top collegiate tight end, and three finalists for the prestigious awards will be named November 22^nd. Egnew leads all of the nation's tight ends with 71 receptions, and his 586 receiving yards is also most among all Mackey semi-finalists. Egnew is the latest in a line of standout tight ends at Mizzou, as he is following in the footsteps of 2008 Mackey Award winner and consensus 1st-Team All-American Chase Coffman, as well as 2007 Mackey Award finalist and consensus 1st-Team All-American Martin Rucker.

David DeJesus, a Royals outfield fixture for the past seven years, has been traded to the Oakland Athletics for two pitchers, right-hander Vin Mazzaro and left-hander Justin Marks. DeJesus, a left-handed batter, hit .318 in 91 games last season before undergoing surgery on his right thumb. He was set to be a free agent after this year. Mazzaro was 6-8 with a4.27 ERA for the A's in 24 games, including 18 starts. He also pitched for Triple-A Sacramento, going 3-1 with a 3.13 ERA. Marks, 22, was in his first full season in the Minors last year with two Class A clubs. He was 3-12 with a 4.92 ERA in 20 starts for Kane County, but also had 119 strikeouts in 109 2/3 innings. Promoted to Stockton, he was 3-1 with a 4.58 ERA in five games.
