The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse. At the meeting, Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams said that sales tax collections year-to-date were down $10,903.67 for General Revenue from $702,383 in 2012 to $691,479 this year. Tax dollars received decreased from October to November by $4,932.42, while there was actually an increase of about $6,000 comparing November of 2012 to November of 2013. Year to date, sales tax collections are down about 1.5%. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said materials would be added and grading done on Dent County Road 6410, while grading would be done on county roads 6050, 6220 and 6575. He did indicate that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 5380. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2070, 2405, 6123, 6130 and 6140. He said brush would be cut on county road 5320 and that materials would be added to Dent County Roads 2070 and 3170. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended the SACBA Board meeting on Monday. He reported that a reception would be held on Wednesday, December 4th at the Ozark Natural and Cultural Resource Center from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with members from the Missouri Community Betterment in attendance. Salem won the Gene Speichinger Community of the Year Award this past year as MCB judges and Board members were impressed with the community planning process undertaken by City of Salem. He also attended the MRPC Annual Volunteer Awards Banquet Thursday night in Potosi. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley said that her office and the treasurer’s office balanced on all accounts, and work continues on the 2014 budget. State Representative Jeffery Pogue attended the meeting and said the Superintendent Bill Black of the National Park Service wanted to add a public meeting on the new Ozark National Scenic Riverways Draft Management Plan in Salem. The meeting would be held in Salem on Wednesday, December 11th from 10:00 in the morning until noon at the Salem City Hall Auditorium. Dent County Assessor Tina Whitaker along with Jerry Craig from the City of Salem Planning and Zoning Commission and Salem City Administrator Clayton Lucas attended the meeting inviting the commissioners to a meeting that will include taxing entities such as school districts, fire districts and the hospital district. This meeting would be hosted by IntrinsiCorp who developed the software the Assessor’s Office uses to introduce them to the wide variety of options that can help provide information to each of taxing entities needs. The City of Salem is already using this service in conjunction with the Dent County Assessor’s Office to redo their city limit maps and more. The meeting was tentatively schedule for December 12th at the SBU Campus in the afternoon. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and it is open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released reports for the first of November. On Friday, November 1st at 11:05 in the morning, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to stealing and forgery. The investigation revealed that someone stole checks and forged them totaling  $3,787.23. Later that night at 8:50, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of the driver for possession of marijuana. The suspect was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Saturday, November 2nd at 12:20 in the early morning, officers served a search warrant at a room at the Walnut Motel. A search of the residence led to the discovery of drugs and paraphernalia. Further investigation led to the arrest of a 33-year old Salem male for distribution of a controlled substance, possession of methamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of opium, possession of ephedrine and possession of drug paraphernalia.  He was also arrested on an active arrest warrant from Dent County and was incarcerated pending application for warrants and on the arrest warrant. Later that night at 11:53, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic investigation. The investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 20-year old Salem female for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.  She was issued summonses to appear in court and released. On Sunday, November 3rd at 9:30 in the morning, an officer transported a 39-year old female of Ellington, from Reynolds County to the Dent County Jail in lieu of an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. Alexander Steen potted his league-leading 15th and 16th goals of the season to lead an offensive barrage that carried the St. Louis Blues to a 7-3 drubbing of the Colorado Avalanche at Scottrade Center. The Blues scored five straight times to break a 1-1 tie after one period. David Backes and Derek Roy each had a goal and two assists in the rout, with T.J. Oshie posting a career-high four helpers for St. Louis. Vladimir Tarasenko added a goal and one assist, while Jaroslav Halak turned aside 21 shots in the Blues' fourth victory in five outings. The Blues will play the Carolina Hurricanes Saturday at 7:00 and the Washington Capitals Sunday at 4:30. Both games can be heard on KSMO Radio.

The Missouri Tiger basketball team will host Hawaii this Saturday. Missouri is 2-0 on the year and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting with the pre-game show at 5:30.

The Kansas City Chiefs will attempt to remain undefeated on Sunday, as they will be in Denver to face the Broncos. The Chiefs are 9-0 on the year and sit one game up on the Broncos who are 8-1, for the lead in the AFC West. Kickoff is set for 7:30 on Sunday night. The Rams will have their bye week.

Funeral services for William E. Pitts of St. James, age 69, will be held thias morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Funeral services for Herbert Lawrence Gilliam of Steelville, age 83, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Czar Cemetery in Viburnum.

Funeral services for Charles Kartchner of Rolla, age 76, will be held this afternoon at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be at a later date.

Funeral services for Beulah Roper Moline of Steelville, age 91, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 until 8:00. Interment will be in the Freeman Cemetery in Cherryville.

Memorial services for Gary M. Broyles of Rolla will be held Sunday at 2:00 at the Conference Center at the Comfort Suites in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Vineyard Christian Fellowship. All arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Funeral services for Wilda Beamon of St. James, age 79, will be held Monday at 11:00 at the First Assembly of God Church in St. James. Visitation will be Sunday from 4:00 to 6:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the First Assembly of God Church or MDA.
