The Salem Police Department released their reports for November 6th involving juveniles and property damage. On November 6th at 8:25 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Salem Jr. High School that led to the detention of a 13-year old male juvenile for disorderly conduct. He was released to his parent and will be referred to the juvenile. At 10:00 the same morning, an officer was detailed to the Western Cherokee Nation building locatecd at 300 East Tenth in reference to property damage. The report revealed that person(s) unknown broke two windows located on the second floor of the building. The property damage is valued at $600. The report is still under investigation. Later the same morning at 11:42, an officer was detailed to the Salem Jr. High School that led to the detention of two 13-year old female juveniles for disorderly conduct. Both female juveniles were released to their parents and the report will be forwarded to the juvenile officer. An accident happened Tuesday around 5:40 in the evening in Dent County on RT. H about 3 miles west of Salem. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1997 Mitsubishi driven by 16-year old Lydia Thomas of Salem, traveled off the left side of the roadway, and struck a fence and tree. Suffering moderate injuries was Thomas who was taken to the Salem Memorial Hospital by the EMS. The vehicle sustained extensive damage and was taken by Whitakers Towing of Salem. Thomas was not wearing a seatbelt when the accident happened.

An accident happened in Dent County on Dent County Road 215 about four miles east of Edgar Springs at 7:00 Tuesday morning. According to the highway patrol report, a 2000 Dodge pickup driven eastbound by 58-year old Paul Black of Edgar Springs, stopped in the roadway and was struck from behind by a 2004 Dodge pickup driven by 39-year old David A. Barker of Newburg. Suffering minor injuries were passengers 25-year old Brian Black of Edgar Springs in the 2000 Dodge pickup, and 35-year old Charles Barker from Newburg in the 2004 Dodge pickup. Both Black and Barker were treated by the Salem Ambulance personnel at the scene for their injuries. The 2000 Dodge pickup sustained minor damages and was driven from the scene, while the 2004 Dodge pickup was towed from the scene by C&C Towing. No one was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident 

Missouri’s unemployment rates were released for September 2006 and in Dent County, the unemployment rate for September 2006 was 6.1%, down from the 6.2% in August 2006, and just up slightly from the 5.9% rate from September of 2005. In Reynolds County, the unemployment rate for September 2006 was 6.1%, the same as it was in August 2006, yet down from the 6.2% rate for September 2005. In Crawford County, the unemployment rate fell to 5.5% rate for September from the 5.7% rate in August, and was up from the September 2005 5.3% reported. In Phelps County, the unemployment rate was at 4.2% in September, the same as it was in August, and that is up from the 3.8% rate in September 2005. In Texas County, the unemployment rate for September was 5.4%, which is down from the 5.7% rate reported for August 2006 yet the same as the 5.7% rate reported September 2005.

The Fall Sports Award Program Dinner will be held tonight beginning at 6:30 pm with the awards presentation to follow. The Athletic Department will supply the meal and drinks. The dinner in the cafeteria will salute football, softball, volleyball and cross country participants.

Miikka Kiprusoff made 24 saves for his 20th career shutout to lead the streaking Calgary Flames to a 3-0 victory over the St. Louis Blues at the Saddledome. Calgary has won five consecutive games. Goaltender Curtis Sanford played only 13-plus minutes of the first period and allowed one goal on four shots but was forced to leave the game due to a groin injury. Manny Legace replaced Sanford and made 17 saves in the loss. St. Louis has dropped four of its last five contests and is now 2-6-1 in its last nine games overall. The Blues will be in Edmonton Thursday night.

Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Brandon Webb has been named the National League Cy Young Award winner by members of the Baseball Writers Association of America. Webb placed first on 15 of 32 ballots cast by two writers from each NL city and second on seven others. He also received seven third-place votes for a total of 103 points, based on the 5-3-1 tabulation system. San Diego closer Trevor Hoffman finished second with 77 points. Webb was one of six pitchers tied for the league lead in wins and was 16-8 with a 3.10 ERA. Webb's three shutouts matched that of the St. Louis Cardinals' Chris Carpenter, who won this award last season. He received two first-place votes this year and finished third with 63 points. Carpenter was trying to become just the third back-to-back winner of the award after going 15-8 this season with a 3.09 ERA.

Funeral services for Iva Jean Havens of Doolittle, age 80, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Roach Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Mt. Olive Baptist Church.

A funeral mass for Paul Frederick Smith of Bixby, age 85, will be held Thursday at 12:00 noon at the St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Viburnum. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be in the St. Philip Benizi Catholic Cemetery.

Funeral services for Lumes C. Turner of Bixby, age 93, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 this evening. Interment will be in the Crocker/Stricklin Cemetery in Bixby.

Funeral services for Loretta Kay Simily of Brunswick, Maine, age 61, will be Friday at 10:00 in the James & Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be Thursday from 6:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Rolla City Cemetery.

Graveside services for Daisy Cooksey of St. Louis formerly of Salem, age 86, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.
