The Salem Police Department released reports for the last few days of October. On Monday, October 28th at 8:28 in the evening, an officer made contact with a 43-year old Salem male at a residence in the 200 block of West Eighth. It was found that he had an active arrest warrant from St. Francis County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending extradition. Later that same night at 9:39, an officer made contact with a 36-year old Bunker female in the 500 block of North Jackson. It was found that she had an active arrest warrant from the City of Salem. She was taken into custody on the warrant and released with a new court date after posting bond. On Tuesday, October 29th at noon, an officer was detailed to the Walnut Motel in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took a television set, valued at $250, from a room at the Motel. On Wednesday, October 30th at noon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to forgery and unauthorized use of a checking account. That investigation revealed that a 24-year old Salem female had stolen and forged numerous checks totaling $4,965.56. She was arrested and incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. Later that night at 8:00, an officer received information of a theft from Walmart. The investigation led to the arrest of a 21-year old Salem male for stealing two television sets valued at $487. He was incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. That same night at 11:11, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. Investigation of the stop led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated. He was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. Anyone with any information regarding the theft report, which is still under investigation, is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242. 

The Salem Area Chamber of Commerce and the City of Salem invites individuals, businesses and organizations to participate in the 2013 Christmas Parade of Lights with this year’s theme being, “THE MUSIC & MAGIC OF CHRISTMAS”. The 2013 Christmas Parade of Lights will be held on Saturday, December 7th starting at 5:30 pm. The parade route will run from the old fairgrounds (corner of South Grand & Franklin) to the Dent County Courthouse. NO ATV’s are allowed in the parade. A $100 prize will go to the winner of the Commercial category float and Non-commercial category float. Entry forms are available at the Chamber Office located at 200 South Main or online at www.salemmo.com. Entry forms must be submitted by no later than November 26th. Lineup positions will be available December 4th. For more info call the Chamber at 729-6900.

MoDOT would like to remind the public of the general roadwork that continues in our area. In Crawford County, roadway maintenance in the eastbound and westbound lanes of I-44 between mile marker 214 and mile marker 218 will take place now through Friday, November 15th. In Dent County, roadside maintenance will take place on Highway 19 between Highway 117 and Route JJ and on Route P between Highway 32 and the end of state maintenance now through Friday, November 15th. Roadside maintenance will take place on Highway 19 between Route B and the Shannon County line now through Friday, November 22nd. And roadway resurfacing and widening of shoulders continues on Highway 32 between Highway 72 and the Salem city limits. Crews will work along the roadway, preparing the roadside for seeding. The project is scheduled for completion in the fall. In Phelps County, roadway resurfacing and signal upgrades continue on Highway 72 between Highway 63 and County Road 5220. Occasional lane closures are likely through the work area. The project is scheduled for completion in the winter. Roadway maintenance will take place on Route T between Route M and Route P now through Friday, November 15th. All conference honors have been released for fall sports and the Salem Tigers are well represented. For football, running back Zayne Kyser, offensive lineman Cordell Tatom, and defensive back Eli Floyd were named to the All-SCA 2nd team. Defensive lineman Marshall Cramer, linebacker Tyus Leslie, and tight end Logan Pogue were named All-SCA Honorable Mention. For volleyball, Morgan Hailey was named to the All-SCA 2nd team while Kelsey Michno was All-SCA Honorable Mention. For softball, pitcher Cortney Putman and infielder Savannah Hanning were named to the All-SCA 1st team. The All-SCA 2nd team consisted of infielder Camryn Pryor and outfielder Kirsten Strebe. Catcher Taylor Frizzell and utility player Kari Hatridge were named All-SCA Honorable Mention. Cortney Putman was also named Conference Player of the Year. Jake Reardon was named Conference Coach of the year. Congratulations to all these players!

The St. Louis Blues will host the Colorado Avalanche tonight at the Scottrade Center. The Blues are 11-2-3 on the year and sit in fourth place in the Central Division. You’ll be able to hear the game on KSMO starting at 6:30.

The Kansas City Chiefs were awarded wide receiver Kyle Williams off waivers from the San Francisco 49ers on Wednesday. Williams, who began the season as a starter with the Niners due to a rash of injuries, was waived by San Francisco on Tuesday. The 25-year-old also served as San Francisco's primary punt returner. Kansas City waived wideout Chad Hall in a corresponding move.

Funeral services for Charles F. Tankersley of Rolla, age 69, will be held today at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Interment will be in the Rhea Cemetery in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Cave State Cruisers.

Funeral services for William E. Pitts of St. James, age 69, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be tonight from 4:00 to 6:00 at the chapel. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery.

Funeral services for Herbert Lawrence Gilliam of Steelville, age 83, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Czar Cemetery in Viburnum.

Funeral services for Charles Kartchner of Rolla, age 76, will be held Friday afternoon at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 until 7:00. Interment will be at a later date.

Funeral services for Beulah Roper Moline of Steelville, age 91, will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 until 8:00. Interment will be in the Freeman Cemetery in Cherryville.

Memorial services for Gary M. Broyles of Rolla will be held Sunday, November 17th at 2:00 at the Conference Center at the Comfort Suites in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Vineyard Christian Fellowship. Arrangements under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.
