The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of October. During the month, they wrote 20 equipment repair orders, 22 summons to appear in court, 32 warning tickets, and 31 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated 16 accidents, three assaults, three burglaries, one report of child abuse, two reports of disorderly conduct, one report of domestic violence, one report of a driving while intoxicated combined with drugs, one report of endangering the welfare of a child, two reports of forgery, two reports of fraudulent use of a credit or and debit devise, one report of fraudulently obtaining prescription drugs, and four reports of leaving the scene of an accident. The department also investigated four reports of property damage, one report of sexual exploitation of a minor, 15 reports of stealing, one report of tampering, and two 96-hour commitments. They also investigated one report of possession of amphetamine, four reports of possession of marijuana and one report of possession of drugs paraphernalia. The Salem Police Department also conducted one death investigation. The police department received 1,656 calls for service during the month, handled 118 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 68 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 10 hours in court testifying, and three hours as court bailiff. The calls in October included 40 calls for escorts, six calls for an intoxicated driver, four calls for a suspicious person and/or vehicle, five intoxicated pedestrian calls, seven calls for domestic disputes, one call for a wrecker, eleven 911 calls, eight calls for a peace disturbance, 10 calls for alarms sounding, six calls for fights in progress, 12 ambulance assist calls, and two calls for property damage.  The Salem Police Department drove a total of 8,192 miles and arrested 15 males and 6 females during the month of October.

Area residents participated in a region-wide special waste collection Saturday, October 15th in Salem. From 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, some 88 cars dropped off unwanted or worn out items including 80 televisions, 52 computer monitors and 34 desktop personal computers. When the numbers were tallied, 11,000 pounds of electronics waste had been diverted from landfills and recycled. The collection was held at the City of Salem sewer/water construction  department’s parking lot at Third and Grand in Salem. The special waste collection was a partnership effort among the City of Salem, the Ozark Rivers Solid Waste Management District, the Missouri Department of Natural Resources and the Meramec Regional Planning Commission. Electronics, such as microwaves, VCRs, DVD players, speakers, scanners, laptops, fax machines, copy machines, and video game players were accepted free of charge. Televisions were the most popular item for recycling with 80 received. Other electronics were accepted including 31 telephones, 28 printers, 21 keyboards and 18 radio/stereos. MRPC contracted with Midwest Recycling Center to recycle the electronics. The majority of those dropping off items at the collection were from Dent County. The remainder came from Crawford and Phelps counties. Area residents that have questions about recycling may contact the MRPC by calling (573) 265-2993.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol has released their arrest reports for Friday, November 4th. At 8:41 in the evening, 38-year old Christopher Jolliff of Pomona was arrested and charged with felony resisting by fleeing, felony possession of a controlled substance, and unlawful use of a firearm. He was taken to the Dent County Jail and put on a 24-hour hold. Later that night at 9:45, 43-year old Jacqueline Freeman of Salem was arrested and charged with hindering prosecution for a felony. She was taken to the Dent County Jail and put on a 24-hour hold.

The St. Louis Cardinals announced on Sunday that former catcher Mike Matheny would be named the next manager of the team. A four-time Gold Glove winner, he was a career .239 hitter with 67 home runs and 443 RBI in 1,305 games. He has had been a minor league instructor with the Cardinals.

Ricardo Ratliffe and Marcus Denmon both scored 20 points and grabbed eight boards, as the 25th-ranked Missouri Tigers defeated the Southeast Missouri State Redhawks, 83-68, in a season-opening tilt Friday. Kim English added 19 points, who were victorious in their first game under new head coach Frank Haith. Missouri will play Mercer tonight and you’ll be able to hear it on KSMO at 6:30.

Kendial Lawrence and James Franklin each ran for a score as Missouri upended 21st-ranked Texas, 17-5, at Faurot Field Saturday. Lawrence ran for 106 yards on 18 carries while Franklin had 33 yards on 13 rushes for the Tigers (5-5, 3-4 Big 12), who have won two of their last three. James Franklin passed for 186 yards on 18-of-26 attempts. Missouri will host Texas Tech Saturday.

Brian Elliott stopped all 19 shots he faced to lead the St. Louis Blues to a 3-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning from Scottrade Center Saturday. Kris Russell scored in his first game as a Blue after being acquired from Columbus in exchange for defenseman Nikita Nikitin, while Kevin Shattenkirk and T.J. Oshie netted the other goals for the Blues. The Blues host the Detroit Red Wings Tuesday night at 7:00.

Josh Brown kicked the eventual game-winning field goal midway through the fourth quarter, sending the St. Louis Rams to a 13-12 win over the Cleveland Browns on Sunday. Sam Bradford threw for 155 yards and one touchdown for the Rams (2-7) and Steven Jackson rushed for 128 yards on 27 carries. Brandon Lloyd hauled in four balls for 48 yards and a touchdown. The Rams play the Seattle Seahawks Sunday.

Tim Tebow ran for a score in the first quarter and threw a long touchdown to Eric Decker in the fourth, helping the Broncos overcome injuries to beat the Chiefs, 17-10, at Arrowhead Stadium Sunday. Matt Cassel threw for just 93 yards and a touchdown for Kansas City (4-5). The Chiefs play the New England Patriots next Monday.

Funeral services for Wayne A. Simmons of Grandview Mo, age 78 will be held Tuesday at 10:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Greeley Cemetery near Bunker with a Military Honors. Memorials are suggested to the KC Hospice.

Funeral services for Mary ‘Mae’ Lacy of Steelville, age 97, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Steelville Assembly of God Church. Visitation will be Tuesday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Fairview Cemetery in Butts, Missouri.

Funeral services for Mary E. Powell, age 43, of St. Charles, formerly of St. James, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Wishon Cemetery.

Funeral services for Larry Beck of Rolla, age 68, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 with a Masonic service at 7:00. Interment will be in the Cedar Grove Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the Choices for People of Rolla.

A Memorial services for Anita L. Hanes of St. James, age 53, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be held from 10:00 until service time.

A Memorial with visitation services for Betty Brasure of Bland, age 78, will be held Friday from 5:00 to 8:00 at the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Memorials are suggested to the Brasure family.

Memorial services for Barbara Caroline (Turner) Walters of Salem, age 91, will be held at a later date in Santa Monica, California, and are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem.
