The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning.  At the meeting Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that a District 1 crew is repairing various chip and seal roads throughout the district. Simpson said that brush is being cut on Dent County Road 247 and the recent rains have allowed routine grading to continue throughout the district. Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 212 and 213 and brush would be cut on Dent County Road 328. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

Road maintenance continues in the KSMO listening area. In Crawford County, MoDOT maintenance crews will be pull paving on Route M, and repairing edge ruts on Highway 8 east of Steelville. They will also be doing approach work on Highway 19, and on Routes C and CC. In Dent County, MoDOT maintenance crews will be mowing Highway72. Contractor crews with McAninch Corporation will be finishing the paving of side roads and entrances as well as seeding and mulching the right of ways. The contractor plans to finish striping the remainder of Highway72 from Route J to Highway 32. Traffic should plan to take Route J as an alternate route around the work if possible. In Phelps County, MoDOT maintenance crews will repair edge ruts on Route P, and maintenance crews will pull pavement in various locations on Routes BB, E and the Old Wire North Outer Road in Phelps County. Contractor crews will install guard cable in the median, and upgrade existing guardrail to the new standards in the eastbound and westbound lanes from mile marker 182 to 184 in Phelps County. There will be one-lane traffic through these locations. Minor delays can be expected. Contractor crews will concrete paving the westbound lane from mile marker 185 to 187 in Phelps County. Lanes will be reduced one 12’ lane westbound from mile marker 185 to 187. The eastbound lane will have two 11’ lanes. Construction signs will be set and flaggers will be directing traffic. Motorists are advised to drive with caution, watch for workers or equipment on or near the roadway through the work zones.

The Community Blood Center of the Ozarks will be holding a blood drive in Salem today starting at 1:00 at the First Baptist Church in Salem on West Third Street. To be eligible to give blood, you must weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.

The Salem Police Department released their reports for November 6th involving juveniles and property damage. On November 6th at 8:25 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the Salem Jr. High School that led to the detention of a 13-year old male juvenile for disorderly conduct. He was released to his parent and will be referred to the juvenile. At 10:00 the same morning, an officer was detailed to the Western Cherokee Nation building located at 300 East Tenth in reference to property damage. The report revealed that person(s) unknown broke two windows located on the second floor of the building. The property damage is valued at $600. The report is still under investigation. Later the same morning at 11:42, an officer was detailed to the Salem Jr. High School that led to the detention of two 13-year old female juveniles for disorderly conduct. Both female juveniles were released to their parents and the report will be forwarded to the juvenile officer. The American Legion Auxiliary will be hosting a covered dish dinner in honor of all the veterans in the area tonight at 6:00 at the American Legion Post on Highway 32 West. The Fall Sports Award Program Dinner will be held on Wednesday, November 15th beginning at 6:30 pm with the awards presentation to follow. The Athletic Department will supply the meal and drinks. The dinner in the cafeteria will salute football, softball, volleyball and cross country participants.

The St. Louis Cardinals will begin defense of their World Series title against the team they beat to reach the Fall Classic, the New York Mets. The 2007 MLB season-opener between the Cards and Mets will take place on Sunday night, April 1 at Busch Stadium. St. Louis captured its 10th World Series title in 2006 in surprising fashion after entering the postseason with the worst record among the eight playoff teams. The Cardinals upended San Diego in the NLDS and beat the heavily-favored Mets in a seven-game NLCS before knocking off the Detroit Tigers in the World Series.

The Cardinals on Friday signed centerfielder Jim Edmonds to a two-year contract for 19 million dollars so he can finish his career in St. Louis.

The St. Louis Blues will be in Calgary tonight to face the Flames to kick off a five game road trip. You can hear the game on KSMO at 8:30.

Steve Smith hauled in eight passes for 149 yards with a touchdown, as the Carolina Panthers downed the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 24-10, at Bank of America Stadium.

St. Louis Rams offensive tackle Orlando Pace will miss the remainder of the season after tearing the triceps in his left arm in Sunday's loss to the Seattle Seahawks. Pace suffered the injury in the second quarter and did not return for the second half. He was replaced by Adam Goldberg, a four-year veteran. Pace, a 10-year veteran, has made seven straight Pro Bowl appearances and had started every game this season for the Rams. Coach Linehan did not say who would start for Pace at left tackle the remainder of the season in his press conference on Monday.

Funeral services for Thomas L. Mowery of Salem, age 80, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Stone Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Eden Community Church Building Fund.

A funeral mass for Paul Frederick Smith of Bixby, age 85, will be held Thursday at 12:00 noon at the St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Viburnum. Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Chapel. Interment will be in the St. Philip Benizi Catholic Cemetery.

Funeral services for Lumes C. Turner of Bixby, age 93, will be held Thursday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Wednesday evening. Interment will be in the Crocker/Stricklin Cemetery in Bixby.
