An accident happened on Friday around 7:40 in the evening in Phelps County on Highway 63 about five miles south of Edgar Springs. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 1990 Chevrolet Corvette driven by 56-year old Roy Wells of Salem, Missouri struck a deer that was crossing the roadway. Wells suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene of the accident. The vehicle sustained moderate damage and was towed by Dishman’s Towing of Rolla.

The Salem Police Department released their reports for the first of November including assaults, property damage and a stolen bike. On November 2nd at 10:42 in the evening, an officer while on patrol observed a disturbance near the 200 block of North Highway 19. The report revealed a 17-year old Salem male was attempting to assault another 17-year old Salem male. He was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court and released. On November 3rd at 3:21 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a stolen bike. According to the report, person(s) unknown took from the yard of a residence in the 500 block of North Jackson a green, Next boys 20” bicycle valued at $50. The report is still under investigation. On November 5th at 4:48 in the morning, an officer was detailed to the 800 block of East Center in reference to property damage. The report revealed that a 27-year old Salem male had assaulted an 18-year old male and a 19-year old female both from Salem as well as caused property damage. He was arrested, issued a summons to appear in court and released.  Anyone with any information regarding the stolen bike is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

The Dent County Sheriff’s Department released their report for the end of October. On October 31st at 11:25 in the morning, the Dent County Sheriff’s Department received a call concerning a well being check of a resident located off of Dent County Road 202. Upon entering the residence numerous harvested marijuana plants were located. A search warrant for the residence was obtained and at 4:38 that afternoon the warrant was served. The resident, a 53-year old male had returned to the home and was taken into custody pending charges of production of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Bonebrake Center of Nature and History located at the intersection of North Hickory and East Rolla Road will present “Rings and the Stories They Tell” tonight at 7:00 pm. Come and join Dr. Richard Guyette from the University of Missouri Columbia as he shares his extensive knowledge about tree rings. Dr. Guyette helps decode the secrets held in tree rings and timbers, their history and health. Light refreshments will be provided and the cost is $5 per person or $10 for the whole family. The Salem Chamber of Commerce will hold their annual awards banquet this Thursday at 6:30 pm at the Commons. Winners of the Teen of the Year, Citizen of the Year, and  Lifetime Achievement Award will be announced. Josh Brown hit a 38-yard field goal with nine seconds remaining to lift the Seattle Seahawks to a thrilling 24-22 victory over the St. Louis Rams in an NFC West showdown at Qwest Field. Steven Jackson rushed for 93 yards and a score for the Rams (4-5), who have lost four straight. Jackson also caught six passes for 40 yards. Torry Holt had seven receptions for 73 yards and Isaac Bruce added seven catches for 66 yards in the loss. Marc Bulger completed 26-of-40 passes for 215 yards and an interception.

Ronnie Brown had 25 carries for 89 yards and a touchdown to lead the Miami Dolphins to a 13-10 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs at Dolphin Stadium. Damon Huard was a pedestrian 15-of-38 for 201 yards, also without a score or a pick, and Tony Gonzalez made six catches for 84 yards for the Chiefs (5-4), who have lost two in a row after winning their previous three contests. Larry Johnson ran the ball 18 times for 75 yards and a TD.

Martin Rucinsky tallied twice and Curtis Sanford made 30 saves as the St. Louis Blues downed the Edmonton Oilers, 5-3, at Scottrade Center. Bryce Salvador, Jay McClement and Lee Stempniak rounded out the scoring for the Blues, who snapped a three-game losing skid. Eric Brewer notched two assists in the victory. Sanford, earned just his second win of the campaign as the Blues hit the road to Calgary on Tuesday night to start a five game road trip.

The Missouri Tiger Basketball Team has started the season 3-0 in the John Thompson Classic as they defeated Carolina A&T Friday night, 101-80; Army on Saturday by the score of 67 to 58; and they beat the Stetson Hatters on Sunday, 66 to 45. Missouri will next face Libscomb Thursday night at 6:30.

Funeral services for Ronald D. Lowe of Viburnum, age 64, will be held today at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the Near Creek/Sumpter Cemetery in Bixby. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Charlie Walls of St. James, age 51, will be held today at 3;00 at the James and Gahr Chapel in St. James. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time today. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Masonic Lodge 230.

Funeral services for Thomas L. Mowery of Salem, age 80, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 this evening. Interment will be in the Stone Hill Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Eden Community Church Building Fund.

A funeral mass for Paul Frederick Smith of Bixby, age 85, will be held Tuesday morning at 11:00 at the St. Philip Benzi Catholic Church in Viburnum. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time Tuesday morning at the church. Interment will be in the St. Philip Benzi Catholic Cemetery.
