An accident occurred on Friday at 11:50 in the morning in Dent County on County Road 4110 about 2 miles East of Salem. According to the Highway Patrol report, a 2000 Pontiac Grand Am driven by 24 year-old Stephanie Westerman of Salem crossed the centerline and struck a 2001 Dodge Caravan driven by 54 year-old Willa Reeves of Boss head on. Westerman suffered serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac Helicopter to the Barnes Hospital in St. Louis, while Reeves suffered minor injuries and was taken by the Salem EMS to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. Both vehicles were totaled and towed by Whitaker Towing.

An accident occurred at 9:47 Sunday night in Reynolds County on Highway 21 about eight miles south of Ellington. According to the highway patrol report, a 1997 Toyota Avalon driven by Ronald Ryan of Jefferson City ran off the right side of the roadway, returned to the road, crossed the centerline, and struck a 2007 Ford Edge driven by Rhonda Pryor of Salem. Ryan suffered minor injuries but refused treatment at the scene. Rhonda Pryor and an occupant in the Ford, 20-year old Ashley Pryor of Salem, suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to Advanced Healthcare in Ellington. Everyone involved was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Toyota was totaled and removed by Mike and Ike’s Towing of Van Buren. The Ford was totaled and removed by Hill’s Body Shop in Ellington.

The Salem Police Department released their reports for the last few days of October. On Sunday, October 28th 8:10 pm, an officer was detailed to the Walnut Motel in reference to an assault. The investigation revealed that a 26-year old Salem female reported that a male had assaulted her. On Monday, October 29th at 8:00 in the morning, an officer transported a 38-year old Salem male to St. Anthony’s Behavioral Health in St. Louis in lieu of a mental commitment order. On Tuesday, October 30th at 3:18 in the afternoon, an officer located a 26-year old Salem male at the Walnut Motel who had an active warrant from Phelps County. He was taken into custody on the warrant and incarcerated pending extradition. Later that night at 8:55, an officer was dispatched to Dollar General in reference to shoplifting. The investigation led to the arrest of a 34-year old male of Summersville and a 31-year old female of Licking for stealing merchandise valued at $64.88. Both were issued summons to appear in court and were released. On Wednesday, October 31st at 3:10 in the early morning, an officer was detailed to McDonalds in reference to a disturbance. That investigation led to the arrest of a 19-year old male of Lebanon, for possession of marijuana.  He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. That night at 9:19, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 1400 block of South Gertrude in reference to an assault. The investigation revealed that a 25-year old Salem male had assaulted a 52-year old Salem male and fled the scene. Further investigation led to the location and apprehension of the suspect who was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. Then at 9:52 that same night, an officer made contact with a 28-year old Salem female in the 800 block of North Hickory who had an active warrant from the City of Rolla. She was taken into custody on the warrant and later released with a court date after posting the required bond. Andrew Baggett's 35-yard field goal in the fourth overtime gave the Missouri Tigers a 51-48 win over the Tennessee Volunteers in a Southeastern Conference nail biter at Neyland Stadium. James Franklin threw for 226 yards and four touchdowns to help the Tigers (5-5, 2-5 SEC) claim the first-ever meeting between the new conference foes. Kendial Lawrence carried 21 times for 153 yards and two TDs in the victory. Missouri plays Syracuse on Saturday.

Laurence Bowers poured in 20 points and grabbed seven rebounds as No. 15 Missouri dropped SIU-Edwardsville, 83-69, in the season opener for both teams. Phil Pressey scored 19 points to go with nine assists and five boards, while Negus Webster-Chan contributed 11 points off the bench for Missouri (1-0), which went 30-5 last year. Missouri will play host to Alcorn State on Tuesday.

David Akers and Greg Zuerlein both missed field goals in overtime and the San Francisco 49ers and the St. Louis Rams played to a 24-24 tie on Sunday. Danny Amendola returned after just a three-game absence and had 11 receptions for 102 yards for the Rams (3-5-1), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Sam Bradford completed 26-of-39 passes for 275 yards and two scores, while Steven Jackson ran for 101 yards and a touchdown on 29 rush attempts in the tie. The Rams play the Jets on Sunday.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be in Pittsburgh tonight at 7:30 to face the Steelers for Monday Night Football. Kansas City is 1-7 on the year.

Funeral services for Lilburn L. Mash of St. James, age 87, will be held this morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Phelps County Hospice or the American Cancer Society.

Funeral services for Susan Medearis of Salem, age 70, will be held today at 1:00 at the Seventh Day Adventist Church. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Empire Cemetery. All arrangements are under the direction of the Dent County Memorial Chapel.

Funeral services for James ‘Jim’ Wells of Viburnum, age 81, will be held Tuesday at 2:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 until 8:00. Interment will be in the Steelville Cemetery.

Funeral services for Phyllis McCarter of Salem, age 74, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary Salem Chapel. Visitation will be held Tuesday night from 5:00 until 8:00. Interment will be in the Jadwin Cemetery.

Funeral services for Howard P. McMullin of Vichy, age 79, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 Tuesday night. Interment will be in the Vienna Cemetery in Vienna.

Funeral services for Cathy Leimkuehler (Coleman) of Leslie and formerly of Davisville, age 63, will be held Wednesday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 4:00 to 8:00. Interment will be in the Cherryville Baptist Cemetery.

Funeral services for Norman E. Short will be held Thursday at 11:30 at the Macedonia Baptist Church near the Boss Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 3:00 to 8:00 at the Kutis Funeral Home located at 5255 Lemay Ferry Road in St. Louis. Visitation will also be held from 10:30 until service time at the Macedonia Baptist Church Thursday morning. Interment will be in the Boss Cemetery.

Funeral services for Virginia Bertha Helton of Salem, age 84, will be held Thursday at 7:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 5:00 until service time. Graveside services will be Friday at 11:00 at the New St. Marcus Cemetery in St. Louis.
