The Dent County Commissioners met Monday for their regular meeting at the courthouse. In the road report, District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2440, 2460, 4210 and 5600. He said brush would be cut on county roads 5615 and 5700, and a man would be screening brown rock. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson reported grading would be done on Dent County Road 2020, while materials would be added to and grading done on Dent County Road 3180. Materials were also going to be added to county roads 2010 and 5380, and Larson indicated that men would be working on the low water bridge crossing on county road 5310. Dent County Treasurer Denita Williams brought in the sales tax dollar figure received in November and they amounted to $57,070.14 which is almost $1,400 more than last year’s November collection. To date, the sales taxes for 2014 are up about 8.1% at $56,435.74. MoDOT Engineer Preston Kramer along with MRPC Director Bonnie Prigge and City Administrator Ray Walden were in attendance to discuss the road priorities for Dent County and the City of Salem. Reviewing previous years priorities, Kramer said that on Highway 32 at the Chilton Oil Tank east of town, there have been five incidents in the last five years, but none of them were attributed to the box culvert at the location. Guardrails there would obstruct the vision to the west on Highway 32 and he recommended not installing them and the Commissioners agreed. Also removed was Route H as MoDOT repaved the road and changed the speed limit signs making the road safer. Also the sightlines on Rolla Road at Grand Avenue where Kramer said they have added signage to make people aware of the intersection and they reduced the speed limit, and the sightline at Highway 19 from Rolla Road is limited because of the building on the west side of the road. Kramer said MoDOT has no jurisdiction over that property and it would be an issue for the city government to handle. There were no new priorities added to the list. This list will be used at the Transportation Advisory Committee meeting on December 11th to prioritize road projects in the Meramec region. At the last meeting, the commissioners approved the county will still pay for the health insurance with a deductible of $3,500 for all employees, but the employees can pay an additional premium to reduce the deductible to $2,500 and $1,500. The commission continued the policy of picking up the remaining $2,000 of the deductible after the first $1,500 has been paid by the employee. The next meeting of the commissioners will be Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
