On Thursday, November 7th at approximately 2:30 in the afternoon, the Dent County Sheriff's Office was dispatched to the 2300 block of Highway 19 North.  The call was in reference to a male subject that had shot himself in the head with a pistol.  Officers arrived on scene and found a 29-year old male, identified as Daniel L Bates, with a gunshot wound to the head.  Bates was transported by ambulance to the Salem Memorial Hospital, and lifesaving measures were made. Dr. Featherly pronounced Bates dead at 3:25 pm. Dent County Coroner Gina White was contacted and it was determined that his injuries were from a self inflicted gunshot wound. His body was then released to the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.

An early morning accident November 7th at the Brushy Creek Mine has left two Doe Run employees with injuries. According to the press release, the employees were hand scaling the mine ceiling at about 2:00 in the morning in their man-lift bucket when an apparent equipment malfunction caused the bucket they were in to drop about 20-feet to the ground. The employees were airlifted to St. Louis area hospitals due to the remote location of the mine with non-life threatening injuries.

The Salem Police Department released several reports. On Thursday, October 24th at 7:46 in the morning, an officer observed two subjects in an altercation at the Walnut Motel parking lot. The officer observed one subject later identified as a 38-year old male of Granite City, Illinois, swing a pick at a 35-year old male of Memphis, Tennessee and hit him near the neck. The officer took the suspect into custody for 2nd degree assault with a weapon and incarcerated him pending an application for a warrant. The victim received only minor injuries. Later that night at 9:46, an officer was detailed to the 200 block of North Washington in reference to the treatment center staff having trouble with an intoxicated client. The investigation led to the arrest of a 19-year old male client of the treatment center for exposing himself to a staff member. He was issued a summons to appear in court for indecent exposure and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. Later that same night at 11:15, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of East Center in reference to a burglary. That investigation revealed that someone forcibly opened the back door of a residence. It is unknown if entry was made into the residence. On Friday, October 25th at 4:39 in the afternoon, an officer was dispatched to the Mobil Service Station in reference to trespassing. The investigation revealed that an-18 year old Salem male had entered on the property after having been given a no trespass order. On Monday, October 28th at 8:28 that evening, an officer made contact with a 48-year old Salem male who had an active arrest warrant from St. Francis County. He was taken into custody in the 200 block of West Eighth and incarcerated pending extradition. Just moments later that same night at 8:48, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took an iPad, headphones, and a rubber case valued at $480 from a backpack in a classroom at the Salem High School. Anyone with any information regarding the burglary, trespassing, or theft reports is asked to call the Salem Police Department at 729-4242.

An accident occurred at 5:55 Sunday morning in Phelps County on Highway 68 about five miles south of St. James. According to the highway patrol report, 25-year old Brock Summers of Salem was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry north when he swerved to miss a deer, ran off the roadway, and struck a tree. Summers suffered minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center.

An accident occurred at 6:10 Sunday evening in Phelps County on Highway 68 about three miles south of St. James. According to the highway patrol report, 30-year old Nezir Selimozic of Bowling Green, Kentucky was driving a 2001 freightliner east when he crossed the centerline and sideswiped a 1982 Ford F-250 driven by 52-year old Edward Schroeder of St. James. The Ford then traveled off the left side of the road and struck a tree. Edward Schroeder and two occupants of St. James, 21-year old Andrew Schroeder and 14-year old Bryan Schroeder, suffered minor injuries and were taken by ambulance to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center.

Maty Mauk threw five touchdown passes, including four to Dorial Green-Beckham, leading ninth-ranked Missouri to a 48-17 victory over Kentucky. Mauk completed 17-of-28 passes for 203 yards, with Green-Beckham accounting for 100 yards on seven receptions. Missouri (9-1, 5-1 SEC) heads to a bye week still in control of the SEC East. The Tigers have won two in a row since a double-overtime loss to South Carolina and will close the season with a trip to Ole Miss before a visit from Texas A&M.

Riding a dominating first half, the Missouri Tigers easily took the 2013-14 season opener against the visiting Southeastern Louisiana Lions by a score of 89-53 on Friday. Mizzou shot an impressive 57.7-percent (15-26) in the first half, which included eight three-pointers. Junior Jabari Brown led the Tigers in scoring with 19 points. Missouri will host Southern Illinois on Tuesday and you can hear it on KSMO.

Kevin Shattenkirk netted the deciding goal in the middle stages of the third period, sending the St. Louis Blues past the Pittsburgh Penguins, 2-1, at Scottrade Center. Ryan Reaves picked up the other goal and Jaroslav Halak came up with 19 saves for the Blues, who will host the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday night.

Tavon Austin scored three touchdowns on eight touches as the St. Louis Rams dominated the Indianapolis Colts, 38-8. Austin, who came into Sunday's game with just two touchdowns, returned a punt 98 yards for a score and caught TD passes of 57 and 81 yards. Kellen Clemens completed 9-of-16 passes for 247 yards for the Rams (4-6), who snapped a three-game skid. The Rams are now off this week.

Funeral services for Daniel L. Bates of Salem, age 29, will be held today at 2:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Interment will be in the North Lawn Cemetery in Salem.

Funeral services for Rosalie Mitchell of St. James, age 91, will be held Wednesday morning at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Tuesday night from 5:00 until 7:00. Interment will be in Flagg Spring Cemetery.

Memorial services for Robin Marie Reeves of Edgar Springs, age 61, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 at the Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 10:00 until service time. Private interment will be at the Rocky Ford Cemetery at a later date. Memorials may be made to the Rocky Ford Cemetery.

Funeral services for Mable Allen of Vichy, age 82, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Wednesday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Lower Davis Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Vichy Fire Department.

Funeral services for Charles F. Tankersley of Rolla, age 69, will be held Thursday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be Wednesday night from 5:00 to 7:00. Interment will be in the Rhea Cemetery in Rolla. Memorials may be made to the Cave State Cruisers.

Funeral services for William E. Pitts of St. James, age 69, will be held Friday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in St. James. Visitation will be Thursday night from 4:00 to 6:00. Interment will be in the St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Vichy Fire Department.
