The opening of Fall Firearms Deer Season begins Saturday and will last through November 23^rd. With the lack of moisture, warmer temperatures and with the acorn availability for deer this year has been way down in the northern part of the state, the Missouri Department of Conservation says that they expect the statewide kill to be down this year from last year. The deer population in this area is excellent as acorns in the southern part of the state has been very good and hunters should have ample opportunity to get a deer. If you have any questions about deer hunting or need more information, pick up a 2010 Fall Deer and Turkey Hunting Regulations and Information Booklet. They are available where hunting permits are sold.

An accident occurred at 4:55 Wednesday afternoon in Phelps County on Route O about six miles south of Highway 72. According to the Highway patrol report, a 1989 Jeep Cherokee driven by 16-year-old Dalton Hudson of Rolla was traveling south on Route O. The accident occurred as Hudson lost control of the vehicle and traveled off the right side of the roadway. Hudson then overcorrected causing the vehicle to overturn and roll off the roadway which ejected Hudson. Hudson suffered serious injuries and was airlifted to University Missouri Columbia Hospital by St Johns Helicopter. Hudson was not wearing a safety restraint at the time of the accident. The Jeep was totaled and was removed from the scene by Ron Dishman’s Towing.

These Salem R-80 students were recently recognized for their outstanding musical achievement in the South Central Association. Students that made the SCA Honor Choir include Blake Beeson, Amber Blaylock, Hanna Bostic, Zack Labrash, Mitch Lo, Breann Lowrance, Joy Malott, and Sarah Watts. Students that made the SCA Mass Choir include Chelsea Atchley, Crystal Birdsong, Brittany Crocker, Kelly Cunningham, Tori Douglas, Chelsea Flowers, Rebecca Quick, Rebekka Reichard, Brittany Rowan, and Anne-Marie Taysom. Congratulations Honor Choir!

An accident happened on Saturday, October 30^th at 11:28 pm on Third Street in Salem. According to the Salem Police report, a 2003 Toyota Camry driven by Jenna Light of Rolla was traveling the wrong way on Third Street. As the Toyota approached Highway 19, there was no stop sign due to it being a one-way street and started to turn on highway 19 as a 2007 Dodge 1600 driven by Christopher Smith of Salem was traveling south on Highway 19. The Dodge was unable to avoid and collided with the Toyota. No injuries were reported at the scene. The Toyota sustained extensive damage while the Dodge sustained minor damage.

An accident occurred at 5:43 pm in Wednesday, November 3^rd at the intersection of Roosevelt and Highway 19. According to the Salem Police report, a 1995 GMC Sierra 1500 driven by Gary Countryman of Jadwin was starting from a stopped position, making a left turn onto highway 19. An intoxicated pedestrian walked in front of the GMC. The pedestrian was transported by EMS for treatment. There was no damage to the GMC. The GMC and the pedestrian were moved prior to the officer’s arrival.

The Salem Lady Tiger Volleyball team had three ladies named to All-SCA teams. Kristi Bermudez was named First Team All-SCA, Amy Huitt was named Second Team All-SCA, and Alayna Sellers was named to the All-SCA Honorable Mention team. Bermudez and Huitt were also named to the All-District Second Team. All Region teams were also announced with two Lady Tigers being named. Bermudez was named First Team All-Region, and Amy Huitt was named Second Team All-Region. Congratulations Lady Tigers.

The Salem Boys and Girls basketball teams will be playing in their Blue and White game this Saturday night at 6:00 at the high school gym. The doors will open at 5:00 and there will be a chili supper and a bake sale, and T-shirts will also be on sale.  Admission to the event will be bottled water or Gatorade. The cheerleaders will be introduced followed by Boys and Girls basketball teams from 7th grade to 12th grade. The community is invited to attend.

Chris Clark and Jakub Voracek each scored twice as Columbus snapped St. Louis' seven-game winning streak with a dominating 8-1 win at Nationwide Arena. B.J. Crombeen scored the lone goal for the Blues. Jaroslav Halak started in net, but was pulled early in the second period after allowing four goals on 15 shots. Ty Conklin fared no better as he was tagged for four goals on 20 shots. The Blues will host Nashville tonight at 7:00 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio.

Two St. Louis Cardinals were honored with Gold Gloves for their defense yesterday. First baseman Albert Pujols was awarded his second career Gold Glove and catcher Yadier Molina was given his third.

The Missouri Tigers Football Team will host Kansas State this Saturday starting at 11:30. Missouri has lost their last two straight games and stand at 7-2 on the year and 3-2 in the Big 12 North. You can hear the game on KSMO.
