The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Monday morning. At the meeting, Marcus Marlin was in attendance to ask if the County still maintained Dent County Road 344 which is also known as Roberts Street in the city limits. Marlin wanted to know if the county still retained rights to maintain the street and Commissioner J.J. Tune said that he didn’t believe so as they haven’t maintained the road for about six years. Tune stated that he remembered that a few people on Roberts Street did not want to be annexed into the city when a public hearing was held, but the city changed the name of the street after annexing in the other streets in the subdivision. Tune said he thinks that the city dropped the ball on the paper work when annexing those streets in the city limits as Roberts Street did not get in before the law changed requiring annexed properties to be contiguous before the entire street can now be annexed. He said he would be willing to sign any paper saying that the county relinquishes any claim to the street if the city wants to take it over to pave it or maintain it. In the road report, Commissioner Bobby Simpson stated that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2460, 2470, 5530 and 6160; and brush was going to be cut on Dent County Road 5650. In District 2, Commissioner Tune said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2330, 6160 and 4020 with materials being added to 2330. He also stated that a dangerous tree on Dent County Road 4380 was going to be removed. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles reported that he attended the MoDOT “Safe and Sound” bridge update last Wednesday and said that the three bridges in Dent County scheduled for replacement would have contracts bid out in 2009. He said that the Highway 32-72 bridge over Spring Creek would have a temporary detour during the replacement of that bridge, while the bridges on Route NN and H would be closed for 90 to 120 days while the work was being performed, so residents would have to find alternative routes to get around the closed bridges. He also asked about the Gladden Bridge on Highway 19 south and MoDOT reported to him that the bridge girders and condition was fair to good. He then reported on the Insurance Consortium meeting he attended last Thursday in Springfield. Skiles said that three companies bid on the insurance and the lowest bid was again Cox Health Services with an 11% increase as they had the coverage last year. The health insurance coverage per employee will rise this year to $356 a month with a deductible of $1,500. All three commissioners approved going with Cox Health Systems and the new rate. Skiles also said that he would be attending the MRPC regular meeting on Wednesday night and the Annual Awards Dinner Wednesday night in St. Robert. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that a representative of the Road Rally would be at the commissioners meeting on November 17th at 10:30. The Dent County Courthouse will be closed on Veteran’s Day. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be held Thursday morning at 9:00 at the courthouse and the meeting is open to the public.
