Contractors working for the Missouri Department of Transportation have reopened Route J in Dent County. While the roadway has been reopened, crews will continue working on driveway and parking lot entrances along the roadway over the next several weeks. Intermittent lane closures are expected during the work. This project to replace pavement along Route J from Highway 32/72 to Third Street is a cooperative effort between MoDOT and the City of Salem. Tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers located at 202 North Washington beginning at 6:45, there will be a public hearing regarding the past performance by the City in sponsoring the Council for a Healthy Dent County in the 2013 renovation project at the Salem Freedom Activity Center. CDBG funds were used to make ADA improvements to the community facility including entrances and restrooms. The City of Salem Board of Alderman will then conduct their regular meeting starting at 7:00 pm. After approval of the agenda, Kristen DeLuca, a CPA with Verkamp & Malone will present to the Board the annual audit report year ending 2013. Also during the hearing of persons, City Attorney Seay will report on the public hearing held prior to the Board meeting. In unfinished business, back in August the Board approved a 90-day trial period on a patrol vehicle take home policy and a report prepared by Chief Steelman with concerns and questions that were addressed back in August will be presented to the Board. Alderwoman Molly C. Zettel will then report on the Utility Committee meeting held November 5th regarding an update on the water/sewer rate study, utility bills due dates and cut off policy, a budget and/or level payment plan as well as an assistance program. City Administrator Ray Walden will update the Board on projects and issues concerning the city and Mayor J.J. Tune will discuss with the Board an invitation from the Salem R-80 schools. In new and miscellaneous business, the City of Salem will hold a Municipal Election on April 7, 2015 for the purpose of electing one West Ward Alderman and one East Ward Alderman. Alderman offices are for two-year terms. Alderman must be 21-years of age, a citizen of the United States, and an inhabitant of the ward from which they are elected. Candidates must file with the City Clerk at the City Administrative offices and filings will begin on Tuesday, December 16 at 8:00 am and run until Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at 5:00 pm. A $25.00 filing fee is required. The public hearing and the regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman are open to the public.

The Salem Police Department released reports involving a fight, narcotics, property damage, traffic violation, an attempted burglary and a stolen checkbook. On Thursday, October 23rd at 11:26 am, an officer was detailed to the Salem High School in reference to a fight. The investigation of the report led to the arrest of a 17-year old Salem male for disorderly conduct. He was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. At 7:30 that night, an officer was conducting a narcotics investigation at a residence in the 1400 block of South Jackson. During the investigation, a 26-year old Salem female was found to be in possession of methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia. She was taken into custody for possession of methamphetamine, possession of drug paraphernalia and endangering the welfare of a child. She was released pending the application for warrants. On Saturday, October 25th at 6:55 pm, an officer was sent to Crowley's Home Furnishings in reference to property damage. The investigation of the report revealed a person or persons unknown broke a window valued at $200 on the east corner of the business. On Sunday, October 26th at 12:50 in the early morning, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. That investigation led to the arrest of a 37-year old Salem female for driving while intoxicated. She was issued a summons to appear in court and released. That same morning at 3:38, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 400 block of North Henderson in reference to a 22-year old Salem male that was unresponsive. The investigation of the report revealed the male had taken a controlled substance. Further investigation led to the arrest of a 42-year old Salem female and a 22-year old Salem male for possession of barbiturates, possession of benzodiazepine, possession of synthetic narcotics and a fugitive warrant from Cole County. Both suspects were incarcerated pending the application of warrants. . Please contact the Salem Police Department at 729-4242 if you have information regarding any ongoing investigation.

James Neal scored the winning goal with 6:28 to play as the Nashville Predators edged the St. Louis Blues, 2-1, on Saturday. Jori Lehtera scored the only goal of the game for the Blues, who had a seven-game winning streak broken. Brian Elliott stopped 33 shots in the loss. The Blues will play the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday.

Three days after winning his seventh consecutive Gold Glove, Yadier Molina became the first three-time Platinum Glove Award winner. The Platinum Gloves, which Rawlings has been presenting since 2011, are given to the top fielders in both the National and American Leagues. Royals’ outfielder Alex Gordon took home the AL honors.

Jamaal Charles and Alex Smith both ran for touchdowns in the fourth quarter as the visiting Kansas City Chiefs rallied to beat the Buffalo Bills 17-13 on Sunday. Smith completed 17-of-29 passes for 177 yards and Charles finished with 98 yards on 15 carries for the Chiefs (6-3), who have won four straight games and six of seven after a slow start. The Chiefs will play Seattle on Sunday.

The Arizona Cardinals rallied around Drew Stanton after Carson Palmer was injured, and scored two defensive touchdowns to beat the St. Louis Rams, 31-14, on Sunday. Benny Cunningham scored on a 3-yard run for St. Louis, plus Austin Davis hit tight end Jared Cook with a 59-yard TD pass. The Rams, now 3-6 on the year, face Denver next Sunday.

Funeral services for Ella Jo Greenwalt of Cuba, age 61, will be at 11:00 this morning at the First Assembly of God Church in Steelville. All arrangements are under the direction of Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville.

Funeral services for Freida M. Craine, formerly of Rolla, age 92, will be held today at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Memorials may be made to the Wounded Warrior Fund.

Funeral services for Scott Parker of Salem, age 46, will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the Dent County Memorial Chapel in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00m until service time. Interment will be in the Wofford Cemetery.

Graveside service for Lester R. Buell Jr. of Licking, age 84, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the MO Veterans Cemetery in Springfield. All arrangements are under the direction of the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
