An accident happened at 1:50 Saturday afternoon in Dent County on Highway 32 about a mile east of Boss. According to the highway patrol report, a 1991 Ford Ranger driven westbound by 47-year old Roger Brown of Boss, ran off the right side of the roadway, over-corrected, and then ran off the left side of the roadway. The Ford overturned several times, struck a tree and then finally came to rest on its top. Brown suffered serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac to the St. Johns Hospital in St. Louis. Brown was not wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Ranger was totaled in the accident and removed from he scene by Abney’s Towing of Viburnum.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving a theft. On Tuesday, November 4th at 3:10 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to the 100 block of East Third in reference to a theft. Investigation of the report revealed person or persons unknown took $234.00 cash, a ring valued $180.00 and a bracelet valued $89.00 from a residence.  Anyone with any information regarding the theft, which is still under investigation, is asked to please contact the Salem Police Department by calling 729-4242.

The Meramec Regional Planning Commission will conduct their regular meeting on Wednesday, November 12th beginning at 4:30 in conjunction with the annual dinner meeting at the St. Robert Community Center in St. Robert. After approval of the consent agenda and several contracts, Fiscal Officer Linda Loughridge will present financial statements for the period ending October 31, 2008. Chairman Laura Antalak and Director Richard Cavender will report on current activities and upcoming meetings. The regular meeting of the MRPC is open to the public.

The Meramec Regional Planning Commission’s 2008 Annual Dinner will be held November 12th at the St. Robert Community Center at St. Robert. At the annual meeting, a number of adult and youth volunteers will be recognized for community contributions and volunteer efforts. Two people from Dent County will be honored at this year’s meeting: Stan Podorski of KSMO Radio and Kathryn Hunt. Podorski and Hunt were both nominated by Dent County Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles. The Eugene E. Northern award, the highest honor given by MRPC for volunteerism and community service, will also be named at the dinner. The evening will begin with a reception from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., featuring hors doeuvres and drinks. Dinner, prepared by the Waynesville Technical School’s Culinary Arts Class, will be from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The program and awards presentation will follow the dinner and is scheduled to begin at 7:30 p.m. Joe Driskill, executive director of the Leonard Wood Institute, will be the guest speaker. The cost of a ticket to attend the event is $22.50 per person. Reservations can be made by calling the MRPC at (573) 265-2993.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will perform edge rut repairs in Crawford County on Highway 19 southbound between Highway 8 and 49 between November. 11-13. A lane closure will be necessary to perform this work. Crews and equipment will be located directly on the roadway between the hours of 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., weather permitting. Motorists are urged to exercise caution. Edge rut repair work requires placing material at the edge of the roadway and is necessary to reduce shoulder drop off. This improves safety for the traveling public. There will also be pavement repairs will be done to these roads in Phelps County: Route KK between the intersections of Highway 68 and Route U, Route F between the intersections of Higwhays 68 and 72, and    Route H between the intersections of Highway 63 in Phelps County and C in Dent County. Jeremy Maclin caught eight passes for 118 yards and a pair of scores, and also rumbled 56 yards for another touchdown, as 13th-ranked Missouri rolled to its third straight victory, 41-24, over Kansas State. Chase Daniel completed 24-of-36 passes for 271 yards and a pair of scores against two interceptions for Missouri (8-2, 4-2 Big 12), which plays at Iowa State next Saturday before taking on Kansas in the final regular season game on November 29. The Tigers are a game ahead of the Jayhawks for the lead in the Big 12 North Division.

Anze Kopitar registered a goal and an assist, as the Los Angeles Kings came away with a 5-3 win over the St. Louis Blues at Staples Center. Andy McDonald and Brad Boyes both collected a goal and an assist for St. Louis, which is riding a five-game losing streak. Manny Legace returned to the crease for the Blues and allowed four goals on 30 shots. He hadn't played since suffering a strained left hip flexor on October 24.

Thomas Jones ran for 149 yards and three touchdowns, as the New York Jets scored early and often on the way to a 47-3 rout of the St. Louis Rams at the Meadowlands. The Jets made it a laugher by scoring on each of their seven offensive possessions and adding another score on defense in the first half. The Rams helped with four turnovers, as New York opened a 40-0 cushion after 30 minutes. The Rams (2-7) have lost three in a row on the heels of a brief two-game win streak. Marc Bulger, who was benched earlier this season by former head coach Scott Linehan, was given a seat at halftime by interim head coach Jim Haslett. Bulger threw for just 65 yards on 6-of-13 passing with an interception. He also lost a fumble that led directly to a New York score. Trent Green played the second half and completed half of his 10 throws for 70 yards with an interception.

Clinton Hart knocked away a potential two- point conversion pass with 23 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, as the San Diego Chargers held on for a 20-19 win over the Kansas City Chiefs. Tyler Thigpen was solid in the start, throwing for 266 yards and three TDs on 27-of-41 passing and also running for 26 yards for the Chiefs (1-8), who have let five straight contests slip away. Tony Gonzalez caught 10 balls for 113 yards and two scores, while Mark Bradley had 81 yards on nine catches with a score.

Funeral services for Abbie Dooley of Salem, age 89, will be this afternoon at 1:00 at Wilson Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be from 11:00 until service time. Interment will be in the Kissock Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Kissock Cemetery.

Funeral services for Janet “Bink” Eileen Black of Edgar Springs, age 45,will be held Tuesday at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8;00 this evening.

Funeral services for Roger Southard of St. James, age 66, will be held Wednesday morning at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in t. James. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday night. Interment will be in the Southard Cemetery in Maries County.
