An accident occurred a 9:00 am Saturday morning in Reynolds County on Highway 72 about six miles east of Bunker. According to the highway patrol report, a 2000 Ford Mustang driven by 18 year-old Jessica Motes of Salem experienced mechanical problems causing it to run off the right side of the roadway. The Mustang then came back onto the roadway, traveled off the left side of the roadway, overturned, and finally coming to rest on it’s top. Motes suffered moderate injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Ford Mustang was totaled in the accident and removed from the scene by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will perform bridge maintenance work on Route 8 in Phelps County, on the bridge located over Dry Fork Creek, beginning Monday, November 9^th.  Weather permitting, crews and equipment will be on the roadway between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Bridge maintenance is performed to improve the section where the road and bridge meet and prevent deterioration of the bridge deck or structure. The Salem Ranger District is seeking your comments on a proposal for the Salem Blowdown Roadside Salvage project. On May 8^th a major storm moved through the southern portion of Missouri producing thunderstorms, tornados and straight-line winds of up to 90 miles per hour. These storms caused considerable damage, uprooting thousands of acres of trees and causing extensive property damage throughout the area. The Salem Roadside Salvage project area, located on about 22,234 acres, is designed to salvage portions of the blown down timber in areas that are adjacent to Forest System Roads in the southern portion of the Salem Ranger District. The purpose is to reduce fuel loads in the project area to decrease future risk to catastrophic wildfire, to ensure a safe transportation system by removing fuels and hazardous trees from the Forest Road System corridors, to remove storm debris to improve access to vegetation management project areas and to recover at least a fraction of the economic value of the storm damaged timber in the project area. The Meramec Regional Planning Commission will hold it’s annual dinner meeting today at the University Missouri Rolla’s Havener Center in Rolla beginning at 4:30 pm. After approval of the consent agenda and several contracts, Fiscal Officer Linda Loughridge will present financial statements for the period ending October 31, 2009. Chairman Laura Antolak and Director Richard Cavender will then report on current activities and upcoming meetings. The meeting will then dismiss for the Annual 40^th Anniversary Dinner. The regular meeting of the MRPC is open to the public.

Nick Florence threw for three touchdowns and ran for another as he led the Baylor Bears to a 40-32 win over the Missouri Tigers in Big 12 Conference action at Faurot Field. The Tigers (5-4, 1-4) were paced by quarterback Blaine Gabbert who hit on 30-of-51 for 468 yards and two touchdowns, but he was taken down four times behind the line of scrimmage by the visiting defense. Having a great game was Danario Alexander with 13 catches for 214 yards and a TD in the losing effort, the fourth in the last five games. Missouri plays Kansas State on Saturday.

Missouri Basketball used a pair of monster runs, a 23-1 run at the start of the first half and a 46-8 surge that spanned the entire second half to earn a 96-33 victory over Truman State University Friday night in the exhibition opener for both clubs. Missouri returns to action next Friday in the exhibition finale against Northwest Missouri State.

The St. Louis Cardinals have started the offseason by making some roster moves. Heading the list was the release of right-hander Brad Thompson, who has pitched for the Cards since 2005. The Blue Jays claimed infielder Jarrett Hoffpauir when the Cardinals attempted to send him outright to Triple-A Memphis, while pitcher Matt Scherer and infielder Joe Thurston were outrighted to Memphis. Thurston can elect to become a free agent rather than accepting the assignment. Additionally, eight members of the 2009 Cardinals have filed for free agency. Rick Ankiel, Mark DeRosa, Troy Glaus, Khalil Greene, Matt Holliday, Jason LaRue, Joel Pineiro, and John Smoltz have all formally filed.

The Kansas City Royals announced Friday they traded utility player Mark Teahen to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for infielders Chris Getz and Josh Fields. Additionally, the White Sox received cash considerations from the Royals. The Royals have also declined the 2010 options on outfielder Coco Crisp, catcher Miguel Olivo and pitcher Yasuhiko Yabuta. Crisp and Olivo are now eligible to file for free agency.

Rich Peverley notched the winner in the shootout and Slava Kozlov added insurance as Atlanta rallied from a two-goal deficit to down St. Louis, 3-2, at Philips Arena. Andy McDonald and David Perron scored for the Blues, who have dropped a season-high five straight games. Ty Conklin took the loss despite stopping 38 shots. The Blues will host Vancouver tomorrow night at 7:00 on KSMO.

David Garrard threw for 264 yards and a touchdown, and Maurice Jone-Drew added 97 yards rushing with a score, as the Jacksonville held on for a 24-21 win over the Kansas City Chiefs at Jacksonville. Matt Cassell finished 23-of-39 passing with 262 yards and a pair of scores, while recently signed Chris Chambers had three grabs for 70 yards and with two touchdowns for the Chiefs (1-7). Dwayne Bowe and Lance Long each had 74 yards receiving on four and eight catches, respectively.
