The Salem Police Department released their report for the month of October. During the month, they wrote three equipment repair orders, 31 summons to appear in court, four warning tickets, and 50 traffic tickets. The Salem Police Department investigated nine accidents, five assaults, two burglaries, one report of counterfeiting, two reports of disorderly conduct, three reports of domestic violence, five reports of driving while intoxicated, one report of endangering the welfare of a child, one report of harassment, one report of leaving the scene of an accident and two reports of minors in possession of intoxicants. The department also investigated one report of a missing and/or runaway juvenile, two reports for open containers, two reports of a peace disturbance, two reports of property damage, two reports of rape, two reports of resisting and/or interfering with an arrest, one report of statutory sodomy, 19 reports of stealing, one report of tampering, four reports of trespassing and two 96-hour commitments. They also investigated one report of distributing/delivering/ manufacturing/producing/possessing a control substance, one report of possession of amphetamine, one report of possession of marijuana, and one report of possession of drug paraphernalia.  The Salem Police Department also conducted two death investigations during the month. The police department received 1,731 calls for service during the month, handled 121 walk-ins to the station, and redirected 71 calls to the animal control officer. They spent 10 hours in court testifying, three hours as court bailiff and spent 16 hours teaching D.A.R.E. The calls in October included 24 calls for escorts, five calls for an intoxicated driver, one call for a prowler, four calls for a suspicious person and/or vehicle, two intoxicated pedestrian calls, eight calls for domestic disputes, and six calls for a wrecker. There were four 911 calls, seven calls for a peace disturbance, 11 calls for alarms sounding, seven calls for fights in progress, seven ambulance assist calls, four fire calls and one call for property damage. The Salem Police Department drove a total of 8,045 miles and arrested 22 males and 8 females during the month of October.

The Salem Police Department released a number of reports. On Tuesday, October 23rd at 9:30 in the evening, an officer made contact with a 38-year old Salem male in the 800 block of East Center. The male, who had three active warrants from the City of Salem, was taken into custody on the warrants. He was later released with a court date after posting bond. On Wednesday, October 24th at 3:51 in the afternoon, an officer was detailed to Town and Country Bank in reference to a counterfeit $10 bill. The investigation revealed that someone had passed a counterfeit bill to the bank. The report is under investigation and the Secret Service was notified. Later that evening at 6:52, an officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a shoplifter. That investigation led to the arrest of a 19-year old Salem female for stealing merchandise valued at $31.84. She was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. On Saturday, October 27th at 8:28 in the morning, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 300 block of East Roosevelt in reference to a burglary in progress. Officers arrived on the scene and apprehended a 20-year old Salem male who had entered a garage through an unsecured sliding door. He was issued a summons for peace disturbance and trespassing and was released. That morning at 9:17, an officer was sent to the Dent County Animal Shelter in reference to a stolen dog. The investigation revealed that someone entered the shelter by forcible entry and took a dog. The dog was located outside the shelter the next day. Later on that afternoon at 3:15, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that someone took mobile home trailer axles valued at $250 from a location in the 400 block of West Seventh. On Sunday, October 28th at 12:33 in the afternoon, an officer made contact with a 22-year old Salem male who had an active warrant from the City of Salem. He was taken into custody on the active warrant in the 800 block of East Inman.  He was later released with a court date after posting bond. Later that afternoon at 4:21, an officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to a 32-year old Leasburg male huffing inhalants from merchandise on the shelves. The investigation led to the arrest of the man for stealing. He was issued summons to appear in court and released. The Salem Football Tigers were well represented on the All-SCA Teams. Named to the All-SCA First Team on offense was Brady Floyd as an all around back, offensive linemen Jade Widsom and linebacker Jon Hickernell. Named to the All-SCA Second Team was offensive lineman Cordell Tatom, linebacker Tyler Ragsdale and defensive end Lane Stluka. Making the All-SCA Honorable Mention Team on offense was Zayne Kyser, and on defense was Marshall Cramer and defensive end Tyus Leslie. Congratulations to these players on their fine achievement. 

The Salem Lady Softball Tigers were also well represented on the All-SCA Teams. Shortstop Kaytlyn Wells was named Conference Player of the Year after a stellar senior season. Named to the All-SCA First Team were pitcher Cortney Putman, Wells, and leftfielder Kristin Hemken. Named to the All-SCA Second Team was thirdbaseman  Sam Parker. Making the All-SCA Honorable Mention Team were firstbaseman Savannah Hanning and catcher Taylor Frizzell. Congratulations to these Lady Tigers.

Funeral services for Goldie Lee Maylee of Rolla, age 72, will be held today at 1:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Memorials may be made to the Goldie Maylee family.

Funeral services for Eric A. Milton of Salem, age 36, will be held Friday at 11:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be tonight from 5:00 until 7:00. Interment will be in the Hanson-Easton Cemetery in Cherryville. Memorials may be made to Abby Wood and children Austin and Chloe.

Funeral services for Bertha J. Rainwater of Boss will be held Saturday at 10:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem. Visitation will be Friday from 5:00 until 8:00. Interment will be in the West Fork Sutterfield in Boss. Memorials may be made to the American Breast Cancer.

Funeral services for Paula Joan Ketterer of Rolla, age 75, will be held Saturday at 10:00 at the St. Patrick’s Church in Rolla. Visitation will be Friday night from 6:00 to 7:00 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Rolla.

Graveside services for Lola Hermes of O’Fallon, age 86, will be held Sunday at 3:00 at the Lake Springs Cemetery in Lake Springs. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:30 at the James and Gahr Mortuary in Salem.
