An accident occurred Monday evening at 11:30 in Phelps County on Highway 68 about twelve miles north of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 22-year old Susie Warnement of Salem was traveling eastbound on highway 68. The Grand Prix swerved to avoid a deer, skidded off the right side of the roadway and overturned, coming to rest on its top. Warnement suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. She was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Pontiac Grand Prix was totaled in the accident and towed from the scene by Spurgeons Towing of St. James.

The St. Louis Blues named former defenseman Al MacInnis their vice president of hockey operations on Tuesday. MacInnis spent the final 10 seasons of his career with St. Louis after playing the first 13 years of his career with Calgary, where he won a Stanley Cup and was named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner in 1989. The former blue liner skated in 613 games with the Blues and ranks first among the club's all-time defenseman in goals (127), assists (325) and points (452). He appeared in seven All-Star games while with the Blues and won the Norris Trophy as the league's best defenseman in 1999. MacInnis ranks third all-time among defenseman in goals (340), assists (934)and points (1,274) while his 1,416 total games played is sixth all-time. Best known for his thunderous slap shot that won him numerous hardest-shot titles, MacInnis was selected 15th overall by the Flames in 1981. The Blues have already retired the No. 2 worn by MacInnis, who played in just three games for the Blues in his final season (2003-04) because of an eye injury.

Missouri defeated Lithuania Academy 94-40 Monday night in an exhibition match. The Tigers forced 41 turnovers and got 22 points from Marshall Brown. Mizzou stole the ball 26 times from Lithuania and held them to 10-of-46 shooting. The game did not count towards Mizzou’s record, but it went a long ways towards building their confidence. Regular-season play begins Friday when the Tigers host the John Thompson Classic. Their first opponent will be North Carolina A&T. Newcomer Stefhon Hannah was the spark plug for Missouri. His steals led to many fast-break points and several alley-oops to Brown. Hannah finished with 16 points and nine assists.
