The Dent County Commissioners met for their regular meeting Thursday morning in the Dent County Courthouse. In the road report District 1 Commissioner Dennis Purcell said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5220, 5610, 5670, 6090 and 6100, while brush would be cut on county road 5620. Purcell went on to say that materials would be hauled to county road 2430 and chip and seal would be patched on county road 6180. District 2 Commissioner Gary Larson said that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 2313, 3275, 2130, 4280 and 4330. Larson went on to say that materials would be added to county roads 3114, 3115, 4290, 2070 and 2130.  He also said that service was being done on Truck #70, a tree was being removed on county road 5225 and that a man would be screening brown rock. Larson reported that he had received a change order from Great Rivers Associates on the new bridge on county road 3210. Larson was to sign the change order, which lowered the price by $125.52, and send it back to Great Rivers. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that the new Plat Books were nearing completion and hopefully would be available in December. Dent County Clerk Angie Curley reported that she balanced with the County Treasurer on all accounts for October. She stated that she also balanced with the County Collector and County Assessor on all monthly collections, abatements and add-ons for October. Curley went on to say that she was very pleased with the 48% County voter turnout in Tuesday’s election. However, she noted that her office had lots of calls from poll workers about incorrect addresses on Election Day and he encourages Dent County residents to call her office when they have had an address change. Curley noted that bills were being approved by the Commission and were to be paid. Wade Jadwin, along with Truman and Julie Smith, were in to discuss the dust problem they have on Dent County Road 5080. Jadwin stated that they were in to develop some dialogue about the possibility, plans, and etc. relative to chip and sealing county road 5080. The Commissioners pointed out that they have a little over 46 miles of chip and seal to maintain, which leaves no money in the budget for new chip and seal roadways. The next meeting will be Monday morning and it is open to the public.

Due to extreme weather last winter and successful cost measures at Intercounty Electric Co-op, record energy sales generated revenues that have allowed the co-op to distribute a discount for active members who have had service with the co-op between January and October 2014. The board of directors approved a $1.5 million discount to be distributed back to the current membership at an amount based on each member’s usage between the months of January and October 2014. Cycle two accounts will see this discount on their November 8th bill and cycle one accounts will receive their discount on their December 1st bill. Board President Jim White, speaking on behalf of the Board of Directors, said that after a review of the cooperative’s financial information, the right thing to do was return the excess margins back to our members. This discount truly highlights the cooperative way of doing business, and we’re thrilled to be able to share the co-op’s success with our membership.
