Over 125 vocal and instrumental students participated in the annual tour of the local rural schools on Thursday, November 6.  The purpose of the program is to recruit students from the rural schools for the music program at Salem R-80 and to let those students see what programs are available for them to belong.  Participating in the tour were the 8th grade choir, concert choir, women’s choir, chamber choir and the marching band.  Lunch for the group was served by the UMW of the Salem United Methodist Church. The tour was started in the late 1980's by former Salem High School vocal music director, Ken Jeffs and at the time was only for vocal music students. The tour was revived again in the fall of 2004 by Catherine Dent, current vocal music director, who added the band to the tour.  It is a highlight of the fall season for all vocal and instrumental students.
