The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting Thursday morning at the Dent County Courthouse and Commissioner Gary Larson was not in attendance. Road Supervisor Charlie Malone gave District 2 road report and said that grading was going to be done on Dent County Roads 2055, 2060 and 4050; and that rock will be hauled to and grading would be done to Dent County Roads 2050 and 4060. Malone went on to say that rock would be hauled to Dent County Roads 2260 and 5310. He stated that work would continue on roads that had flood damage from last weeks rain and they hoped to have them done this week. He apologized for the number of potholes on the county roads but assured the commission that they would be taken care of as quickly as possible. District One Commissioner Dennis Purcell reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 5080 and 6240, and that brush would be cut on Dent County Road 6283. He said that rock would continue to be hauled from the creek. He said he attended the Top of the Ozarks RC&D meeting in Houston and they would be awarding six grants of $850,000 to six schools for a new wood chip boiler system from their ‘Fuels for Schools” grant. Purcell said that the only Dent County school that applied for the grant was Oak Hill R-1. Purcell said that he asked Lisa Rueller from the RC&D to attend the commissioners meeting on November 19^th at 10:00 to discuss if anything can be done with the Title 3 monies that the county has available. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles said that a meeting was held to determine what to do with grant for the generator for the emergency Red Cross Shelter at the Oak Grove Baptist Church. The county was approved for $46,003 and the lowest bid came in at $60,400. After a long discussion with all the parties involved, it was decided that another grant would be applied for to make up the difference between the two. Tony Floyd from Intercounty Electric will prepare the grant application of $15,000 plus 5% for any increase in price. The grant application deadline is December 2. At the last meeting, the commissioners voted to accept the insurance claim reimbursement of $19,973 from the May 8^th storm damage. The next meeting of the Dent County Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.

On October 20, 2009, Troop I Headquarters of the Missouri State Highway Patrol completed its fifth Community Alliance Program. This program was a unique opportunity for residents from throughout the Troop I area to gain insight and a better perspective of the training and duties experienced by officers of the Missouri State Highway Patrol. Participants received classroom and practical instruction on various topics such as firearms, stopping and approaching vehicles, traffic crash investigations, criminal investigations, and driving while intoxicated enforcement. Upon their completion of the academy, Captain Lee Ann H. Kenley, commanding officer of Troop I, presented each citizen with a plaque as a memento of their efforts and willingness to participate in this program. A dinner was provided at Troop I for the participants and their spouses on the final evening to help celebrate the occasion. Participants from our area included John Denbo, Dr. Dan Brown, Bill Jenks, Justin Brown, and John Beger of Rolla. They also included Keith Inman and Darrell Skiles of Salem, and Dan Smith of St. James.

The Salem Police Department released their reports involving assault, a felony warrant, and traffic stops. On Wednesday, October 28^th at 3:15 p.m. further investigation was conducted on an assault, which had occurred on September 29, 2009. The investigation led to the arrest of an 18-year old Salem man who was issued a summons to appear in court and released. On Friday, October 30^th at 9:20 p.m. a 43-year old Salem man turned himself in at the Salem Police Department on a felony warrant from the Phelps County Sheriff Department. He was incarcerated on the warrant pending extradition. At 10:20 p.m. that evening, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 44-year old Salem man for the traffic violation and driving while intoxicated. He was issued summons to appear in court and incarcerated. On Sunday, November 1^st at 1:10 a.m. a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation that led to the arrest of a 54-year old Salem woman for driving while intoxicated. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released.

Dion Phaneuf scored the game-winning goal in overtime to lift the Calgary Flames over the St. Louis Blues, 2-1, at Scottrade Center. Lars Eller scored his first career goal in his NHL debut for the Blues, who were shut out in their previous two games. Chris Mason stopped 29-of-31 shots for St. Louis, which has lost four of its last five contests. The Blues will be in Philadelphia Saturday night at 6:00 before traveling to Atlanta for a game Sunday at 4:00. You can hear both games on KSMO Radio.

Of course, right after the World Series was over it was back to business as usual for Major League Baseball. On Thursday 79 players filed for free agency, with Angels pitcher John Lackey, Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday and Red Sox outfielder Jason Bay highlighting those who will seek employment this winter. Lackey has spent his entire eight-year career with the Angels, while Holliday and Bay both experienced trades before each hit the market for the first time.

The Missouri Football Tigers will host Baylor tomorrow starting at 1:00 at Faurot Field. Missouri is 5-3 overall and 1-3 in the Big 12. You can hear the game on KSMO Radio starting at 12:00 noon
