The Salem Memorial District Hospital has put a new restriction on visitors due to the flu. No one under the age of 14 will be allowed to visit a patient until further notice.

An accident occurred at 1:00 am Friday morning in Dent County on Highway 32 in Boss. According to the highway patrol report, a 2003 Chevrolet pickup driven by 35-year old James Hobson of Salem was traveling westbound on highway 32. Hobson lost control of the pickup where water was running over the highway. The Chevrolet ran off the road and struck a concrete bridge abutment. Hobson suffered minor injuries and was transported by EMS to the Salem Memorial District Hospital. He was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chevrolet sustained extensive damage and was left at the scene to be removed later.

The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) will perform culvert/pipe replacement on Route TT in Dent County, about 1.6 miles east of the Route 19 intersection, beginning Tuesday, November 3^rd. Weather permitting, crews and equipment will be on the roadway between 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. The replacement of cross pipes at this low water crossing, will require the closing of a small portion of Route TT just east of the Route 19 intersection during construction hours. Drainage pipes near the roadway periodically need replacing to maintain proper drainage. The City of Salem Board of Alderman will conduct their regular meeting tonight at the City Hall Council Chambers beginning at 7:00 pm. During the hearing of persons, Eugene and Glenda Abbott wish to discuss all the problems they are having with storm water at their property on South MacArthur, and Terry Madsen along with others from the Friday Night Bands are requesting the use of the City Hall on December 31^st. During bids, the City requested bids from the four local banks for the leasing of the new truck, dump body, spreader boxes and snowplow and the City requested bids for the purchase of a fuel system for the airport. Alderman Brad Nash, Kenneth Nash, Jim Jackson and Jim McDaniels will discuss miscellaneous items involving the City of Salem. McDaniels would like to also discuss storm water, and the electric policy. Mayor Gary Brown will address various issued also involving the City of Salem. In new and miscellaneous business, a discussion will held about the Municipal Election to be held on April 6, 2010 for the purpose of electing an East Ward and West Ward Alderman along with the Mayor. Alderman must be 21-years of age, a citizen of the United States, as well as an inhabitant of the ward from which they are elected. The Mayor must be 25-years of age, a citizen of the United States and a resident of the City all the time of and for at least one year preceding the election. Offices are for a two-year term. Candidates must file with the City Clerk at the City Administrative offices beginning Tuesday, December 15^th at 8:00 am and until Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at 5:00 pm. The filing fee is $25. The Board of Alderman will discuss the setting of salaries for the newly elected officials before the filing date of December 15^th. The Board will address the status of the city for the fiscal year first quarter of 2009 (which is from July 1, 2009 through September 30, 2009) through departmental budget reports along with financial statements, and there will also be a budget comparison by funds for the same time period to compare to July 2008 to September 2008. After approval of bills presented by City Clerk Mary Happel the Board may then vote to go into Closed Session. The regular meeting of the City of Salem Board of Alderman is open to the public.

On Senior Night Friday, the Salem Tigers’ Tony Floyd scored twice to lead the Salem Tigers to a 33-14 win over St. James. Derek Freeman and Ashton Kissir also scored rushing touchdowns, and Kevin Presley pulled down a touchdown pass for Salem who rushed for 444 yards on the night. Floyd finished with 121 yards on 10 carries, Karr netted 120 yards on seven carries and Derek Freeman had 105 yards on 12 carries. Salem ended the regular season with a 7-3 record.

The Salem Tigers will host the Fulton Hornets on Wednesday, November 4 at 7:00 p.m. for the first round of football play-offs. The cost of admission for this playoff game is $5.00, kindergarten through adult. Blaine Gabbert threw for 192 yards and two touchdowns, as the Missouri Tigers defeated the Colorado Buffaloes, 36-17, in Big 12 play at Folsom Field. Danario Alexander caught both touchdown passes for Missouri (5-3, 1-3 in Big12) and finished the game with 123 yards on eight receptions. Derrick Washington led the Tigers on the ground with 99 rushing yards and one score on 22 carries. Missouri will face Baylor Saturday.

Steven Jackson rushed for 149 yards on 22 carries and scored the game-winning touchdown late in the fourth quarter, as the St. Louis Rams snapped a franchise-record 17-game skid with a 17-10 victory over the Detroit Lions at Ford Field. Jackson also caught three passes for 17 yards for the Rams (1-7), who won their first game since beating the Cowboys on October 19, 2008. Marc Bulger completed 17-of-35 passes for 176 yards and an interception. Daniel Fells caught a TD pass on fake field goal for St. Louis, which gave Steve Spagnuolo his first win as a head coach in the NFL.

Tomas Vokoun stopped all 34 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season as Florida shut down St. Louis, 4-0, at Scottrade Center. Chris Mason allowed three goals on 26 shots for the Blues, losers in three of their last four games. The Blues will be off until Thursday night.

St. Louis Blues have assigned defenseman Tyson Strachan and center Yan Stastny to Peoria.
