The Dent County Commissioners held their regular meeting at the Dent County Courthouse Thursday morning. At the meeting District 1 Commissioner Bobby Simpson reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 247, 248, 538, and 539. Simpson also said that brush would be cut on Dent County Roads 541 and 550 and rock would be hauled to the crusher. District 2 Commissioner J.J. Tune reported that grading would be done on Dent County Roads 257, 337, 402, and 403. Tune said the rest of the District 2 crew would be patching chip and seal on Dent County Road 329. Presiding Commissioner Darrell Skiles received from the county treasurer, a bill for the Sheriffs Department in the amount of $20.10, which would be paid out of the Sheriffs Training Fund and a bill from the Chamber of Commerce in the amount of $5,377.84 for the purchase of a new sign, which would be paid out of the Tourism Tax Fund. The Commission agreed to pay both bills. At the meeting Dent County Collector Dennis Medlock announced that tax bills would be mailed out on Wednesday, November 7th. Sandie Hogan from the Dent County Enrichment Services came by the meeting to present to the Commission an amendment proposal for the Senate Bill 40 Budget. The amendment would allow the Senate Bill 40 Board to participate in a statewide program called, “Targeted Case Management,” which provides assistance to citizens with developmental disabilities. Commissioner Simpson made the motion to amend, Commissioner Tune seconded the motion and all agreed. Bernie English also stopped by the meeting to ask about a road that ran in front of his house that is not county maintained. The Commission explained that the road is not a county road and has never been county maintained. At the previous meeting, Prosecuting Attorney Jessica Sparks came by to discuss with the Commission the limitation of space in the prosecutor’s office, the possibility of insulation being installed in the office for sound proofing and also if there would be any other days available for her to meet with the Commission, because she has court on Mondays and Thursdays. The next meeting of the Commissioners will be Monday morning at 9:00 and the meeting is open to the public.
U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson conveyed news that a federal disaster declaration has been made for 22 Missouri counties as a result of severe drought. Twenty of the counties named are in the 8th Congressional District, and five “contiguous counties” in the 8th District are also eligible for disaster relief. The USDA announcement is welcome news for farmers and ranchers who have been suffering as a result of drought conditions across the region. Disaster declarations are not to be taken lightly, as severe drought conditions directly affect agricultural production, creating significant losses. One of the primary counties included in the disaster declaration is Reynolds County, and the contiguous counties are Dent, Shannon and Texas County.
The City of Salem Planning & Zoning Board of Commissioners will conduct a meeting, called by Board President Sean Curley, on Monday beginning at 6:30 pm at the City Hall Council Chambers for the consideration of a request by Ed and Gail McElfresh, regarding the closing of a 20’ wide alley in Grover’s Addition, Block A. The meeting of the Planning & Zoning Board of Commissioners is open to the public.

The Salem Football Tigers go for the District Championship tonight as they travel to Ava to face the Bears. The Tigers are 2-0 in district play while both Ava and Logan-Rogersville are 1-1. Salem can win District 9 by winning the game outright or if they lose by no more than two points. The winner of District 9 will host the sectional game that will be held on Wednesday at 7:00 against the winner of District 10.
The 9th ranked Missouri Tigers will be facing the Buffaloes of Colorado tomorrow at 5:30 and you can hear the game on KSMO Radio beginning at 4:30. Missouri enters the game with a 7-1 record.
Jay McKee's first goal in 33 games was the difference, as St. Louis edged the struggling Minnesota Wild, 3-2, at Xcel Energy Center. Keith Tkachuk and Martin Rucinsky scored for the Blues, who won at Minnesota for the first time since a 1-0 victory on March 26, 2003 and have won three of five overall. Manny Legace turned aside 23-of-25 shots. Paul Kariya and Tkachuk extended their point streaks to three games. The Blues will host the Chicago Black Haws Saturday night. KSMO will join the game in progress after Missouri Football.

Funeral services for Mildred Martin of St. James, age 66 will be at a later date along with a private interment. All the arrangements are under the direction of the James & Gahr Mortuary in St. James.
Funeral services for Reta Elmore of Boss, age 75, will be held Monday morning at 11:00 at the McSpadden Funeral Home in Bunker. Visitaion will be Sunday from 5:00 to 8:00 pm. Interment will be in the Westfork-Sutter Cemetery
