The Salem Police Department released a number of reports. On Friday, October 19th at 9:30 in the evening, an officer was contacted in reference to a rape. The investigation revealed that an adult male of Salem had raped a juvenile female. On Saturday, October 20th at 3:15 in the morning, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 300 block of West Franklin in reference to someone banging on the front door of a residence. That investigation led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem male for peace disturbance and 2nd degree trespassing. He was apparently intoxicated was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. Later that evening at 9:03, a vehicle was stopped for a traffic violation. The investigation led to the arrest of a 22-year old Salem male for driving while intoxicated and careless an imprudent driving. He was issued summons to appear in court and incarcerated on a 12-hour hold. On Sunday, October 21st at 6:48 in the evening, an officer was dispatched to Water and Center in reference to an intoxicated person lying on a picnic table. That investigation led to the arrest of a 32-year old Salem male for an open container. He was issued a summons to appear in court and released. Later that evening at 9:02, an officer was dispatched to Phil-Mart in reference to a theft. The investigation revealed that a 32-year old Salem male took a bottle of soda valued $1.49 and fled the store. Officers located the suspect and took him into custody. He was issued a summons to appear in court and incarcerated on five unrelated warrants for his arrest from the City of Salem. Anyone with information regarding the rape is asked to contact the police department at 729-4242.
U.S. Representative Jo Ann Emerson will be in Dent County today at the Swiney Bridge at 2:30 in the afternoon with Commissioner Dennis Purcell. Emerson helped secure approval of the project, which is a cooperation between the U.S Forest Service and the Missouri Department of Conservation. Emerson will then visit Scoops Central in the Crossroads Shopping Center at 4:15 and speak at the Salem Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Dinner at the Grace Community Church at 6:00 in the evening.
The Doe Run Company’s Buick Resource Recycling Division’s (BRRD) recent change in their workforce uniforms has resulted in a clothing donation to a local charity that will benefit the organization and area residents. The recipient of the unused uniforms, Salem Organization of Local Various Charities (SOLVE), will sell the uniforms to the public at a discount, using the proceeds from the sale to enable SOLVE to contribute to monthly grocery, gas or rent bills for local residents in need. The BRRD recently switched from denim jeans and shirts to coverall uniforms to better protect its workforce. Clean uniforms are one of several ways that BRRD maintains a healthy and safe work environment for employees. Employees remove uniforms for laundering before entering cafeterias or break rooms, then put on fresh uniforms before returning to work. The transition left Doe Run with nearly 30 boxes of new denim shirts and pants that it could no longer use. In keeping with the company’s commitment to use resources wisely, BRRD contacted SOLVE, a community, nonprofit organization and resale shop in Salem, Mo., to make the clothing available at discounted prices to the public. The resale shop operates strictly through donations. SOLVE sells clothing and other necessities, such as food, personal care items and household wares, to area residents for a reduced price. For those residents unable to pay, SOLVE may provide items free of charge on an as-needed basis. According to Laquetia Duckworth from SOLVE, “Clothing donations and the proceeds they generate, are an integral part of achieving our mission. It is important that we provide work attire at an affordable price so members of our community are properly outfitted for jobs that allow them to become and remain economically self-sufficient. No donation is too small for someone in need, but large donations, like this from Doe Run, helps SOLVE make a significant impact.” Supporting local community efforts continues to be a priority for Doe Run. Earlier this year, staff members at BRRD donated more than $4,000 to local elementary schools to provide children with school supplies, clothing and hygiene items.
An accident occurred Monday night at 10:20 in Phelps County on Route KK about four and half miles east of St. James. According to the highway patrol report, a 2005 Chrysler Sebring driven by 45-year old James Ousley of Cuba was traveling eastbound on Route KK. The Sebring ran off the right side of the roadway and struck the guardrail, returned to the roadway, ran off the left side of the roadway, struck the guardrail. Ousley attempted to leave the scene and ran off the right side of the roadway, down an embankment, and struck the ditch. Ousley suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. A passenger, 44-year old Adelita Ousley of Cuba, suffered serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. No one was wearing a seat restraint at the time of the accident. The Chrysler Sebring was totaled and removed from the scene by Spurgeons Towing.

The Kansas City Chiefs will be in San Diego tonight to face the Chargers at Qualcomm Stadium. Matt Cassell will get the start at quarterback for the Chiefs due to Brady Quinn leaving Sunday’s game with a head injury. Kansas City is 1-6 on the year and is in last place in the AFC West. Kickoff is set for 7:20.
The Kansas City Royals acquired pitcher Ervin Santana along with cash considerations from the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in exchange for pitcher Brandon Sisk. Santana has spent his entire career with Los Angeles, posting a 96-80 record overall, good for the seventh most wins on the Angels' all-time list.
The Kansas City Royals named Jack Maloof the new hitting coach and Andre David as the assistant hitting coach. Both were promoted from Minor League jobs. They succeed Kevin Seitzer, who was dismissed after four seasons as hitting coach. While having two hitting coaches is new for the Kansas City club, it's been a growing trend for Major League clubs to have two on staff. The move completes manager Ned Yost's 2013 coaching staff.

A celebration of life for Perle Rogers of Cook Station, age 89, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Hospital, Gideons International, or the Gorman Cemetery in Cook Station.
