Route K and the Akers Ferry in Shannon County will be CLOSED as contractor crews perform maintenance to the building in the area and electric will be turned off. The Ferry is located over the Current River between County Road 359 and County Road K-D. Weather permitting, work will take place Tuesday, November 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. The work zone will be marked with signs. Motorists are urged to use extreme caution while traveling near the area. The Salem Police Department released their reports of property damage and theft. On Sunday, October 14th at 2:15 in the morning, an officer attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on Highway 32. The vehicle continued without stopping, traveling on Highway HH, and entered Magnolia Drive. The driver lost control of the vehicle hitting a mailbox, damaging 40 feet of privacy fence, and damaging landscaping before fleeing on foot. The total value of damage is approximately $1,915. The suspect was identified, but the investigation is still ongoing. That same morning at 7:11, an officer was detailed to a residence in the 200 block of North Main in reference to an unknown female who was beating on the back door of a residence. Upon the officer’s arrival, a 50-year old Salem female was observed trying to steal a vehicle. She was apparently intoxicated and was taken into custody and incarcerated pending the application for a warrant. At 1:36 that afternoon, an officer was dispatched to a residence in the 800 block of East Third in reference to a disturbance. That investigation revealed that a 30-year old Salem male entered a residence by force without permission. Further investigation led to his arrest for trespassing. Also arrested was a 31-year old Salem male for refusal to obey a lawful order of a police officer. He was incarcerated pending the application of a warrant and was issued a summons to appear in court and was released. Later that afternoon at 3:30, an officer was dispatched to Walmart in reference to an assault. The investigation revealed that a 24- year old Salem male had assaulted a 23-year old Salem male with a vehicle. He attempted to hit the victim with the vehicle. The mirror of the vehicle struck the victim as he attempted to jump out of the way. No serious injuries were reported. He was arrested and incarcerated pending the application of a warrant. On Tuesday, October 16th at 4:00 in the afternoon, an officer was contacted at the station in reference to a theft from a vehicle. That investigation revealed that someone entered a vehicle parked in the 100 block of North Washington and took property valued $25. Anyone with information regarding the property damage or theft is asked to call 729-4242.
An accident occurred at 9:00 pm on Monday, October 29th in Dent County on Highway H about a mile west of Salem. According to the highway patrol report, a 1998 Toyota Camry driven by 21-year old Miranda Weible of Salem was traveling westbound on Highway H. Weible was not able to stop and struck an unknown 1994 Dodge Dakota from behind that was disabled in the roadway with the driver standing in front of the vehicle, pushing the Dakota into a pedestrian. Suffering minor injuries was 17-year old Aaron Callahan of Salem and he sought his own treatment. The Dodge Dakota sustained moderate damage while the Toyota Camry sustained extensive damage, and both vehicles were towed by Whitaker’s Towing of Salem.
An accident occurred Monday night at 10:20 in Phelps County on Route KK about four and half miles east of St. James. A 2005 Chrysler Sebring driven by 45-year old James Ousley of Cuba was traveling eastbound on Route KK. The Sebring ran off the right side of the roadway and struck the guardrail. The Sebring returned to the roadway, ran off the left side of the roadway and struck the guardrail. The Chrysler Sebring attempted to leave the scene and ran off the right side of the roadway, down an embankment and struck the ditch. Ousley suffered minor injuries and was taken to the Phelps County Regional Medical Center in Rolla. A passenger, 44-year old Adelita Ousley of Cuba, suffered serious injuries and was flown by Air Evac to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. No one was wearing a seat restraint and the Chrysler was totaled and removed by Spurgeons Towing.

The Cardinals tweaked their 40-man roster on Tuesday, adding pitcher Jorge Rondon in order to keep the right-hander from becoming a Minor League free agent. Two spots on the roster opened Monday, when Kyle Lohse and Lance Berkman officially entered free agency. Rondon took one of those vacancies, with the other now occupied by right-hander Kyle McClellan, who had to come off the 60-day disabled list.
St. Louis Cardinal catcher Yadier Molina was awarded his fifth stright Rawlings Gold Glove on Tuesday. Molina is the first NL catcher to win five straight Gold Gloves since the Reds' Johnny Bench won 10 straight from 1968-77. Kansas City Royal left fielder Alex Gordon also received a Gold Glove Award, his second consecutive.
Outfielder Wil Myers, the top prospect in the Kansas City Royals organization, was named the recipient of the J.G. Taylor Spink Award as the Topps Minor League Player of the Year on Tuesday. Myers, who also earned Minor League Player of the Year honors from Baseball America and USA Today, hit .314 with 37 home runs and 109 RBIs between Double-A Northwest Arkansas and Triple-A Omaha this season. He became only the third player to win all three awards.

Funeral services for Lavada Martin of Steelville, age 77, will be held today at 3:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Interment will be in the Schweider Cemetery in Steelville.
A celebration of life for Perle Rogers of Cook Station, age 89, will be held Saturday at 1:00 at the Britton-Bennett Funeral Home in Steelville. Visitation will be from 11:00 until time of service. Memorials may be made to the St. Jude Hospital, Gideons International, or the Gorman Cemetery in Cook Station.
